Wouldn’t it be nice to make ‘straw’ together with flour when making rye into a windmill? I think it would be good to use that straw as fodder for cows.
Cows can’t live solely off straw though. But it could supplement their food. There’s a lack of protein and vitamins in it. That’s why you tend to feed them with hay or insiled hay (the lacto acid bacteria make the feedstock of higher quality)
Also straw is used for covering the floor of the stables with, to absorb the watery part of excrements. Great fertilizer, because of the added carbon source from the straw.
