So I’ve been looking over a few different builds for purifier and people are putting points into different things, different devotions, etc. I’m honestly not sure what’s good or why it’s good, so I was wondering if I could get some help. My build looks like this so far: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/dVb5qE2J
If there’s something that’s clearly wrong with the build then please feel free to tell me. All I really know is that Fire/ Electrical damage seems like it’s the way to go, so that seems like the best route.
If I’m putting too many points into a skill, taking an unnecessary skill, or if there’s devotion stuff I could do differently then I’d love to hear opinions. Thank you so much!
I’m in the same boat. I’m a grim dawn noobie and I’m trying a dual wield inquisitor. Just finished act 1 but I’ll be honest, compared to a necro I’m struggling a lot. I relied more on the ice rune skill I feel, it was really tough. I had to kite a lot, and I was basically waiting for the explosive shot to proc (20% is pretty low).
Would also love some tips from an experienced user. I’ve searched the builds around here and not much info on inquisitor yet. My build is similar to yours but I’m only around 20. I went demo and grabbed those 2 aura skills,and fire strike.
DW ranged builds are certainly viable, but they don’t work well for early leveling, I would use word of pain or grenado/ canister bomb until you get to at least level 40. Switch to firestrike once you have enough points to max out brimstone and static strike. I just finished leveling a purifier and I used word of pain with rune of kalistor/ ignition for leveling. Maxed out ignition with 1 point word of kalistor and maxed out everything in word of pain line. Worked great for the early levels. Look for burn dmg/ ele dmg/ fire dmg on gear. You may want to go grenado/ cannister bomb so you can get farther into demo mastery though.
Also make sure to use the fireball skill from searing ember (you can spam this early) and then greater fireball from flintcore bolts once you can upgrade. These skills are fantastic for leveling.
What is the advantage of going dual wield over two-handed when two-handed gives you Word of Arms and Searing Might? Plus there are some sweet two-handed weapons.
If you’re using Fire Strike, is there any reason to use Bursting Round? Maybe Storm Spread could be useful for AoE while leveling (but not late game if you focus on fire), and maybe Chilling Rounds is good for the freeze, but I’d think weapon pool skills aren’t needed with Fire Strike…
What do you suggest for supplemental skills by endgame? Obviously Word of Renewal is for healing, but I don’t really know how to choose between Rune of Kalastor (knockdown and stun), Inquisitor Seal (damage absorption), Flashbang (confuse and slow/fumble/impaired aim), and Thermite Mine (-fire resistance). Any more than three of these gets too unwieldy for my playstyle.
With dw you get a stat stick and you don’t have to go kraken in your devotion set up, which is nice bc the big dps constellations for most dw purifier builds don’t require blue affinity. The comparison is between 2h + kraken and the mastery bonuses or stat stick + more ideal devotion set up. They are both good, it really comes down to the play style you prefer. Word of arms is pretty underwhelming in my opinion, and searing might is just an attempt to close that gap between the extra stats you get from dual wielding.
Bursting round, along with any other %chance to be used skill will increase your dps, and give you another option for attaching devotion skills. Sometimes those abilities are 1 point wonders if you have enough +to skills in your gear. There’s a lot of end game gear that has both fire and lightening modifiers (the ulzuin’s set for example), and you can also find gear with + to all elemental dmg. If you are considering using chilling rounds for the freeze, you would be better off with 1 point in flashbang and it’s modifier searing light. This skill will cc trash mobs for you and keep melee mobs off your ass.
Personally I don’t like inquis seal for ranged builds bc it requires you to stand still, but it is quite powerful if you’re ok with not being able to kite. The best part of word of renewal is actually vigor, and the other buffs that you get from keeping it up. You wan’t to keep the buffs on you 24/7, you can hang on to it in case you need the heal within the 15 seconds between the cool down coming back and the buff expiring but don’t let it fall off. Thermite mine is really good, it doesn’t need heavy skill point investment and you only need to use it at the beginning of a fight. Throw out 2 underneath the mob, then start wailing away. Aside from that you want the demo auras, Vindictive Flame and it’s modifier, as well as Flame Touched and it’s modifier. You will also want blast shield for some tankiness. From inquis get deadly aim and aura of conviction for your exclusive skill. Make sure to max out vigor, 815 bonus health is not something to pass up.
I’d recommend something along these lines: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/0V0GOo2m
*edit: eldritch fire would be better on flashbang than bursting round
note: I started with 3 points in crossroads and the viper constellation, but took them out later once other constellations became self sustaining.
Potential Keybinds:
Right click -> fire strike
Left Click -> move
mouse wheel up -> thermite mine
mouse wheel down -> flashbang
mouse 3 -> word of renewal
Can you explain why you would need Kraken in a two-handed build? What kind of 2H devotion setup would you use? Otherwise this all makes sense to me. Thanks!
Kraken makes up for missing out on the stats in an off hand weapon, without it you are gimping yourself in a 2h build. I’d go something like this for a 2h set up: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/O2GW3l62 As you can see, you end up with either tempest or magi (i’d have to test which one is higher dps) instead of Ulzuin’s torch.
All physique. If you don’t have hawk you will need like 12-14 cunning for late game guns, spirit reqs will be met. You need the health/da and dmg returns on cunning/spirit are garbage
As far as attribute points, what TomoDak said. I always go all physique but hold onto 10 in case i need to pump some stat to equip certain gear. I ended up with about 5 in spirit and 5 in cunning, rest in physique.
For devo order I’d recommend getting scholar’s light > empty throne > chariot > hydra > eel > behemoth > fill in the rest. That’s just a suggestion but if you need a certain stat in one of the constellations in order to equip a piece of gear or something you can always swap your devos around later. If you are feeling your damage fall off, go towards elemental storm and eldritch fire earlier.
Been a lurker at the forum since early access. Felt strongly enough about my dual wield purifier that i made an acct to reply
Been running a DW purifier, currently ard lvl 28 and i said it’s definitely a blast on veteran so far. Melting mobs with the 3 % to trigger skills, 5 skill pts each. 1 pt in inquisitor seal and each of it’s subskill. 1 pt in word of renewal. Max out fire attack. Currently maxing out the seal n its subskill. The damage absorbtion is huge
I’m running 2h Purifier atm. With the right gear it’s pretty strong. I got lucky with my weapon and a Mythical Hellborne dropped for me (got the purifier idea from it actually). Had most the Ulzuins set, traded for the rest.
My devotions are a bit whonky…I have some points spread out a bit to get extra ADCtH. makes a big difference, especially as your damage goes up. Most my points are in Demo, big on Fire strike line, and big on Grendao. Have Magi tied to grenado, and Rhowan’s crown tied to flashbang. Eldritch fire tied to Fire strike. Fire and Chaos damage, no real lightning. got enough with that to kill pretty fast.
tearing through early AoM pretty smooth now. Use flashbang and grenado on CD. Took a bit to get used to Inquisitor Seal, but I wouldn’t run w/o it now. amazing defense and damage boost if you can work with it. my Phys resist is in the mid 30’s, and that coupled with my ADCtH makes it easier to tank things when I’m in the seal.
Flashbang and grenado to get those procs going, drop a seal into the larger group (or on me if they rush me), and go to town. hit word of renewal as soon as I take 25% of my health or so in damage, and use it when needed after that.
killed the undead nemesis a few times (can’t remember his name, big frosty guy), and that was before I got the Hellborne, so he’d probably be easier now. I can face-tank most stuff except hard hitters, and then I kite them a bit, drop another seal, and unload my CD’s.
Fun build, just needs some decent gear as your points get spread out allot. Hellborne is simply killer with its +2skills to both classes, not to mention the attack speed and damage. also buffs grenado and Bursting round, making them both hit like a truck. Bursting is definitely worth it if you have the hellborne. Even w/o, it’s burst AoE packs a punch and can down trash quite fast.
I am currently leveling a ranger purifier my self.
I cannot post grimtool on my mobile but here are some info :
-after testing, playing 2h is better, mainly because of the fire strike transmuter (+ 21% total dmg and +15% crit damage for only 3 points in CRAZY SHIT)
I play with a mix of fire and lighting (50-50)
run a lot of elemental resistance reduction : viper devotion, ultos (best devotions ever on fire strike : it rapes trash mobs), and elemental storm.
i also run meteor shower, but it is not necessary
-don’t forget static strike, huge flat damage
flashbang is very important
max your resistance, and take fail safe like blast shield
