Endgame balancing problem

I will, however, throw you a bone on this and say that in some edge cases the lines of true OP-ness and plain player skill can be a little blurry. In those cases then sure, it is on Zantai to be able to make that judgement call of being able to determine, “Just how much of it is the build being OP and how much is player skill?”.

Sometimes that might be a hard call to make, hard to say for sure. Especially if the times are skirting his limits perhaps.

While i agree with you on many points, i invite you think of more relevant numbers. Such as average daily/monthly audience. Total copies sold is only relevant for one thing which is Crate’s pocket (and i’m happy for them). Having this number as an argument is like saying that every man who has ever set foot in a little hub town near the road and had breakfast in a local diner is as important for the town as the local citizen.

For instance, right now 3.4k people are in game. I’m no expert on steam numbers but based on this i’d say the number of people actually playing the game on at least semi regular basis is… less than 2 mln.

Mutators - no. All of them are balanced, and wont destroy gameplay for a properly made build much. Even “fearful” +60% crit damage wont do a shit if enemies cant crit you (and they wont do it in normal circumstances, if your DA is OK.

Well, it’s completely normal in ARPG when YOU hunt for monsters, not vice versa. Otherwise it would be something of “tower defense” genre, etc.

Agreed. First, survival in Crucible is a critical factor, that’s why i prefer to farm SR.
Second, you cant judge build only on offensve power. If one build has 10% higher DPS but 50% lower defences than other, i’d say first build is much worse.
Third, enemies in Crucible have kinda low HP pools compared to their damage output, so it’s natural that “kill them before they kill you” gameplay gets an upper hand. In SR oneshotting enemies in mere seconds before they hurt you much is much harder.

Having said al that, i personally wouldn’t care if the dev nerfed my build (not that there is anything to nerf yet ) If anything, i would consider it as a personal victory and move on, as thejabrixone said, to the next season (although it’s easy to sympathize with people being attached to their builds).

I just think it’s phycologically better for players to not nerf builds but rather buff up the content. The only problem is for Crucible it’s not such an easy task because if you make mosters having more health, they would be killing weaker builds due to debuff snowballs.

You should check out some of the monster abilities. Kymon’s effective OA after successfull leap is 3.2k. You should have what, 3.6k DA to avoid crits? Smth like that.

I don’t know, how it’s in your culture, but please don’t use such statement with people from other countries. For someone it may look at least strange.

Generally throwing someone a bone is used to convey the idea of partially conceding/acknowledging a part of an argument, usually out of respect for the individual or argument involved.

There is a fine line between something that is “OP” or notably stronger than the developer (i.e. Zantai) intends.

Like powbam mentioned in the topic earlier - nerf is an ugly word. Whenever a build is deemed too powerful and “nerfed”, it is always done with the intention of keeping it viable and rewarding for the build creator to have put together and play whilst not being a massive outlier in terms of power. If something is overnerfed (and this has happened many times in the past; Crate is not perfect), give detailed feedback with actual evidence via play experience and clear times and you have a pretty good chance of convincing Zantai to get it changed for the better.

Take old Cyclone for instance - it far outpaced other builds in terms of what it could do and was toned down to compensate. Is Cyclone a bad set following the changes to it?

lol dear lord.

I’m dying laughing here. Any other common phrases and expressions you want to tell me not to use on the English-speaking forum?

And speaking of… anyone ever notice how it’s always “us” (the English-speakers) who have to ‘adapt’ and be careful of stepping on the toes of other language speakers for ‘fear of accidentally’ offending them… yet I have yet to ever witness the reverse occur to this day.

Actually, I don’t really have a response to what the thread has devolved into, so I will just post this instead:

This is a good topic yet not too realistic for players and for the devs.

Here is why.

Balencing is a tricking thing for devs. it’s not just tuning down some numbers here and there. This game has the most sophistication of its genre. Devs actually make it too good so you really can come up with a lot of possilibities with all themetaicla sets, synergy sets and independent items. If they had an online server, that could make things easier, just by analysing all the data of builds of all players. Offline,it’s hard, if no one tends to share, there is a limitation of what devs know about.

Another thing about what should be buffed or nerffed. Is there really a standard that can be measured with?
Let’s say for Blademaster, one guy single handed took it to lvl 100 in SR. does that mean this class should meet some balence? Not really, because you still have to consider what potions he used, what mutators of the map he encountered, what the odds he can defeat these levels with other Bosses and mutators, also what’s the playtime and death counts.

Even everything checks out for good, it still has to be really careful when to introduce a balencing patch. You got to be careful not to hurt the varieties of this class and other classes, for which there were too many negative examples there.

and let’s say for warlord, warlord is no doubt very popular in recent versions, yet according to our collection of builds, most (retaliation) warlords uses excessive MI gears to be where they are.
and for a lot of skills they could be overly underestimated by public until some very experienced player shows you the right way to build around it.

Also balencing too much is not good for the players and for the game too. There are too many users. Some may have time for the game, some may not; some took a week to make a build, some took months. Then balencing in some senerios is actually an equivalence to efforts for monthsin vain.

Everyone loves to start a new challenge with a new character but none would love to see their well-polished BD to be terminated or ever worse, becoming a mediocre one. There it creates some hinge to feedback and sharing.

@ Chthon :joy:  I don’t want to be a paper cannon kind of guy any more. SR has taught me a good lesson.

emmmm just realized I talked too much :innocent:

Nevertheless, this is not a problem for my community. We have our version of Build Compendiums, which is open to all of these who’s been active in this game and those who joint our chat channel, over 4000 members now.

most are held with high standards that SR 7576 is a must, yet sr80 is very solid as well. also I have collected some builds from this forum, and thank you, just let me take this chance to say it to all of yo.

organized by version, classes, damage types, core skills, pet/player, etc. .

Tfw you don’t understand any of it and can’t use google translate, because it is a pic and not text…

Haha just for the example . Love you @ Maya
and google translation wont work as wished when doing Chinese to English.
off the topic, Is there any app or tool you can use to extract words from a pic and then translate it? We can do it.
