It is a bit annoying to have a brick notification if you do not have the building yet.
Yep, but I just stop the construction of the building and the demand indicator goes away. 
If you bought some bricks from the trading post and then used them for something, that warning is to remind you that you have no bricks for future building repairs.

I bought bricks from the trader to upgrade my market place early before I could build forges or a brickworks. I had completely forgotten the fact that I would need bricks to maintain the market place. It was down to 40% when I finally managed to start producing my own bricks. Could have been a disaster!
