[Feedback] How to nerf N&O and keep it alive

FG is knocking at the door and with it tons of new gear and topics to discuss. But let’s not forget about the fading superstar of 7.1 Nex&Ortus. This magnificent swordset with oldschool fantasy design is soon going to retire. I know it. You know it. What are we gonna do about it?

This thread is about ideas pertaining to possible ways of nerfing N&O. It would be a shame to see it go as the option of skipping Rhowan’s Crown is great for elemental melee diversity and conversion makes everyone happy. In my opinion, these are the ways:

WAY #1 - Strictly Sabo. Remodel the procs as mods to Demolitionist’s skills (just pls not Clunkado) and move more flat to Firestrike. It would look funny overloaded with mods but hey… This would be one way of nerfing N&O: don’t nerf it but make it only usable by demo (which is in fact the ultimate nerf). Personally I wouldn’t like to see it happen as I like N&O as a multi class set.

WAY #2 - The Way of Zantai. Lower key stats by 5-10% and see what happens. Especially the flat. Maybe double the cooldown on the RR proc? Personally, I wouldn’t like to see the conversion nerfed.

WAY #3 - Remove the conversion, add acid bonuses and set up with Soiled Pants and Cauldron of Excitement.

WAY #4 - make Ortus a shield because everyone will be playing Oathkeeper anyway.

Thx for reading. If you ever had the pleasure of testing N&O drop a comment.

Move the RR from the proc to Fire Strike, 10 - 20% chance for 33 reduced resists if completed the set and it’ll be done. This was the first what came to my mind after seeing any build rushing N&O. Literally, this set just gives free RR for completing the set, heck, doesn’t matter if you go any damage type or elemental, 5 more RR if you’d normally pick Acid Spray and 1 more if you wanted Elemental Storm. Why would you not just “randomly” pick this duo? Are you a caster? Doesn’t matter, you don’t use arcanist, you can easily pick this duo for the RR.

We’ve made changes to this set already for the next patch that we feel are appropriate for the set’s intent.

The RR is only a thing because it turned out that getting the Crown is costly. Flat elemental RR was always easy and no-one ever complained before. But now that N&O saves that 7 devotion points you can see how much that is.

Making it strictly demo seems sensible as now N&O is a best thing you can equip on almost any nightblade. But… I’d rather see it toned down a bit and kept as a good elemental melee solution across classes.

I hope Crate doesn’t nerf it into the ground and back to the meme-status it had prior to 1.0.7. I feel like reducing flat RR by 50% would be an approriate nerf.

Reducing RR on proc would solve nothing rly. In fact, you can remove RR from it completely and it won`t matter at all.

How come?

Because you want Guardian Gaze on this build anyway Rowan crown is not such a bad investment. Since RR is flat you wont even notice the nerf.

No i it’s not about nerfing or buffing really. It’s about them finding the appropriate identity.

As for the proc, reducing the RR on it is neither a relevant nerf, nor does it help find it’s idenity much. It’s about the mods

Eye of the Guardian? Hmm… Interesting… Like this? https://www.grimtools.com/calc/lV76Eo52 ?

But you primarily want Ultos bound to your autoattack, no matter the class/build. Only tricksters have Wind Devils to proc it nice so that Savagery is left for Guardian Gaze (unless I’m missing something). With infiltrators, saboteurs, spellbreakers, witch hunters you would have to take silly one-pointers (ex. Box with infiltrators) or bind it to cd skills. Is it worth the 80 fire/cold, 60 burn/frost and 15%wd per orb when they most likely won’t proc many anyway?

So it’s going strictly demo, isn’t it? :frowning:

Making a Fire+Cold Sabo with this set is actually made easy with what the set provides.

I tried pure fire Sabo’s using Vilgazor’s Heart and they just don’t have much of an impact. Even if you added +1 to all skills to Nightblade on Cinderplate Girdle I would find it hard to make it work.

Tried a lightning Sabo using a Mythical Stormheart. same story. Kinda works but nowhere near as good as Nex+Ortus build.

I like the set at the moment, I think doubling the cooldown on the RR proc is probably justified.

What the hell?!

  1. I’m just leveling my first saboteur to use this set and I just hear about this bs for the first time

  2. Why the hell is nerf needed?!

I’ve been kinda burned out of GD for a couple weeks now, this might be the last nail in the coffin…

such bs really…

This set is super OP and every build uses it all the time. Literally, this can be build on any class combo and be super good.

Also:

They basically want to make it limited to Saboteurs, not nerfing it to the ground, as you apparently think.

This is really strange however, I never knew about that meta. Because I really haven’t seen that set being used a lot lately at all. Even the latest saboteur builds that I’ve seen nobody uses this set basically. They all want to convert everything to cold etc.

I find this really strange coming out of the blue so to speak…

I really never seen this set to be used much lately let alone being overpowered.

I wouldn’t say it’s out of the blue. N&O infiltrator is currently the second fastest non-pet build in crucible. It also beat the records among all trickster and spellbreaker builds and was deemed op by everyone involved. On saboteurs it was just okay because demo is terribly weak to counter N&O oupiedness.

Here’s some builds:

But I’d say, if it’s sabo you’re levelling you should be okay in FG. That was after all the “set’s intent.”

The problem in this game is not the OP equipment, the problem are gd stashing crucible fanatics who can assemble anything in minutes, the builds which would take a legit (and especially a HC player) who doesn’t grind 24/7 months to complete.

Those players ruin the game for everybody because of resulting nerf hammers. My opinion is that certain gear in this game should definitely be “OP” so to speak, because it is extremely hard for a 100% legit player to even obtain such gear. Even on softcore, except if you’re a no-lifer. I sadly have a life besides GD and I also play some other games, so I cannot grind GD 24/7, but I also don’t wanna cheat and gd stash either.

But novadays it seems those SC gd-stashing crucible maniac community which is sadly the prevalent faction in GD right now is dictating how the things will be. It seems even devs are falling blindly into this GD stash crucible meta trap because they act just like those crucible stashers. Like making an endgame build is a thing which can be done in minutes for everybody.

Possibly just make the GD stash a part of the vanilla game and everybody will be happy.

Bottom line is I don’t even comprehend how the game would be enjoyable for anyone who plays like that, and it is a very sad state that we’re in.

The problem with this and any other ARPG is that those type of games require very little skill to be succesfull and are relying on gear instead. But what is even the reason to play those games in the first place if you don’t need a lot of skill, and on top of that you can also make anything you want in minutes.

The game looses all appeal in my opinion. On top of that you’re also causing a lot of harm to the players who don’t wanna gd stash and cruci all the time.

You are ruining the experience for role players and especially HC players.

Crucible stashers, please go play something else, this is just not a game for you. Seriously, why don’t those guys just go play a competitive game instead? It is plently of options to brag and boast in those communities.

The game currently definitely feels like people make builds to be nerfed rather than people make builds to be played

I completely disagree. Nothing should ever be OP or take months to grind for.

Exactly, could not say it better in just one sentence. Seems like a lot of people cannot understand this is an (indie) arpg, it’s not dota, or tekken, or counter strike.

Go play those games and leave role-players and people that want to truly enjoy the game do so in peace.

Goddamit

Why does everything has to be meta crucibucey gdstashey all the time?!

I respectfully disagree with everything you have said.

But before we get to that, I will admit that I am a GD Stasher and I don’t even bother leveling my characters. I just make one at lvl 100, give it items and stuff, unlock all the shrines, max devo points, lvl up devotions to max, with a billion iron, all the items etc, etc…

Why? where is the fun in that then? why do I bother playing even, right?

The answer is pretty simple. Different people like different things. I have played it legitimately once. No matter how many characters I make, the story remains the same. There isn’t like 100s of different endings to explore or choices to make. It is just a chore after the first time for me, not fun. So given the option to skip it, I do.

Now for farming, I believe that it is just a matter of time and patience. There is no skill involved, it is just about how lucky you get. And RNG plays an important part. Sure, something might take you a long time to get compared to making it in GD Stash, but I don’t see it as an acceptable excuse to make it overpowered or to let it stay that way.

And one last thing on the topic of “cheating” to obtain items and whatnot faster, there are those who like to test new concepts and try weird things. Would be kind of hard to do so playing self found.
