Fertilization, farms and grazing areas

After farming an area for several years the soil becomes too tired even with frequent compost fertilization. With the fertilization filter on the farmed area is dark grey.
Conversely, after grazing an area for a few years, the pasture area becomes rich with fertilization, almost blue green. So, swapping areas (pasture for farmland and vice versa) at that point seems an obvious move. Normally the grazing would replenish the exhausted land, while the former pasture is producing crops and exhausting that area.
Currently, however, even after several years of grazing former farmland, the fertilization filter indicates that the pasture area remains dark grey. After awhile one tends to run out of fertilized land and crop production falls way off.
It would be helpful to use this type of rotation to recover unfarmable land.
Also, it would be helpful to be able to see pasture and farm field boundaries when laying fence to guide where fence is needed.

Sounds like you’re not planting things like clover, beans and peas during your crop rotations to help with fertility.
