FoA 1.3 - Winds of Asterkarn Zealot, Cold Channel, Stormfang Set, Endgame

Hi I initially made this post to ask for feedback and improvements - and still welcome suggestions! However if you would appreciate more of a guide on what I’ve put together (I’m attempting) to put it together here.

Current Build - click me

(Rallying cry turned on)

Ascendant affixes include three re-rolls to remove things like smite/shattering smash.

  • the build performs solidly in SR 30 - 31
  • has killed Ravager of flesh (had to kite but not tried for a while)
  • new mog
  • ascendant Beronath (pre patch notes)

Issues:

  • I’d like more speed for nemesis, celestials and the guardian rooms
  • Lowish crit (somewhat solved by investing into divine mandate)
  • Untamed rage doesn’t proc reliably (bit sad as it inflates our OA significantly)
  • Some guardians are significantly rippy - Shriek can cause issues and a few that seem to do vitality TSS/devastation?

Equipment

  • Stormfang: Does what it says on the tin, significant DoT to judgment, + Onslaught stacks to winds, +RR, Weapon damage (which means it can leach via ADCtH), physical resist

  • Conduit of divine whispers: (converts fire portion of judgment). Budget alternative Heart of Malmouth

  • Gloves: dot to judgment + add weapon damage to both winds and judgment, also provide skill disruption protection to help sustain channel

  • Took Morgoneth’s boots: provide passive adcth (small) + a few point in form of the beast as well as physical resist. Over galewind treads - could drop physique requirement this way

  • Calcified sash (+1 to all skills in Berserker) + partial conversion to ring abilities

  • Reaper’s Legwraps : skill points in relevant skills + % to healing effects

  • Shard of asterkarn: convert a portion of our lightning/electrocute (judgment + devotions) +3 onslaught stacks, +1 metre to WoA

  • Groble Frost Effigy: Most importantly adds sustain to our channelled ability WoA, converts physical component of Judgment; look for ‘glacial’ and or of corrupted peaks, celerity is also good to bring to cast speed cap.

  • Rings: Mythical Band of the Eternal Haunt & Mythical Screams of the Aether: cold resistance reduction, casting speed, %cold, racial passive

  • Icebreaker: health, OA and importantly source of reduced damage taken

  • Augments: fill resistances and look for health

Skills

  • Winds of Asterkarn is a channelled 10m radius attack that scales from cast speed - for our build it’s the consistent source of dps and sustain and receives +1m range
  • Judgment: at 12 points shares similar range to our WoA, will pull in enemies suspectable to its disruption (typically small mobs) and knock them down, it is the skill we aim to dump our onslaught stacks on due to its significant dot/duration and large aoe. Judgment layers damage over our channel and also shreds DA thanks to it’s second node
  • Wereraven is a stat stick taking advantage of ‘everwinter’ cold damage% and ‘form of the beast’ max casting speed + total damage modified
  • Haven 18% health
  • Ascension, use it sparingly in large groups of elites or during nemesis/boss encounters, it’s a defensive layer giving damage absorption + all damage, its second node brings up stun resistance and adds OA. Unfortunately it has a short(ish) duration and long cooldown
  • Divine mandate (the elephant I missed - recently recognised this line for its significant crit damage modifier). I think it performs better than the Berserker exclusive heart of asterkarn which has OA + % cold damage
  • Battle surge and untamed rage are our defensive layers, giving sustain + conditional (50 health) OA and absorption
  • Rallying cry + impulse: 60s buff and an on demand heal if needed, OA, crit damage, move speed slow resist
  • Amatock’s pact, armour, resists, +cold, and some flat, (we only make use of ~ 40% of flat damage)
  • Bone chilling cry / guardians of empyrion are for resistance reduction and can proc devotions

Devotions

  • Bards Harp + Chariot of the dead are there for sustain (both mana and life restored) as well as page three resists and offensive ability
  • Hyrian helps with healing, and armour, has relevant damage modifiers and a reasonable proc
  • Murmur for cold resist reduction
  • Toad, beast racial
  • Scythe, sustain
  • Spider/hawk/harpy, offensive reason (cast speed, OA, crit etc)
  • Blind sage, probably most controversial, took it when I had far lower crit modifiers. But…skill disruption is nice, good chunk of OA and %cold, I think I make use of the proc quite well, winds procs it often and if my understanding is correct a good chunk is converted to cold

Hyrian is easily swapped for Amatok if you prefer. Removing blind sage frees up other paths well. We don’t need elemental storm as we have Stormfang effect.

Factions

  • friendly with Kymon’s chosen to farm Death’s Whisper Hood: helps with leveling
  • Barrowholm: If you are friendly with Barrowholm you get access to there %health augments most importantly; however you can’t fight the nemesis that drops Reaper’s Legwraps and instead have to find them in the shattered realm. If you do decide to go hostile with Barrowholm this augment is a good alternative Kurn Yeti Horn

Fantasy Spec

Untested Aurora version - possibly tankier

Shoutout to GIJW and his awesome guide and build suggestions;

You already have +2929% cold damage so the additional +% dmg from spirit (you have +335% now) is not that much - with “spirit dump” you get 200% more) i.e. (100+2929+535)/(100+2929+335) = 6% more dps. But you’ll loose about 300 OA …

vimeo is an alternative video sharing platform.

Judgment duration is long, and gets reapplied so if that’s going to crit its going to crit? Where as winds hits so frequently I don’t know how to value the extra value of say 10% more crits, it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference going from 3300 to the occasional 4000 if that makes sense?

It like 4 attacks out of 12 crit instead of 3/12, (which is 25% more often but I dunno the multiplier effect) - okay looking at the mechanics OA increases the multiplier too?

Napkin math then something more like this

Yes OA also affect crit multiplier as well

You are still looking at the avagerege dmg output, because crit is chance based and the monsters you are aiming at killing require long time to kill (and have high DA, sure judgment has some DA shred but you are not really investing into it)

This might workout better then, Zealot, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.7) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
42% crit damage and up to 4600 OA (conditional)

I did look at crushing verdict but it has significant diminishing returns

can u share your cha file to test. thanks

I’m sorry for the dumb question but how do I do that is it as straightforward as copying the folder?

If this isn’t correct please let me know how to do it

Realised I’ve been a bit silly and got the idea from a Reddit post by paikis (I think). But if I remove points from heart of Asterkarn to divine mandate I can swap 100% cold and 14% OA for 35% crit damage.

u share exactly way. thanks so much, that’s not dumb question .

Zealot, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.7) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator - current build
Finally got trouser to drop, rerolled affixes/prefixes on all greens - ‘of corrupted peaks’ on all three is probably bis (for a guess). Performs pretty similar to outlined in video maybe a bit faster due to 30% crit damage. It’s comfy(ish) pulling two bosses in last room, extremely rippy on 4 but has done it.

Going to ascend some gear now wish me luck.
