For the love of all that is holy, edit the town chatter!

This update has been a massive disappointment, but apart from that the ambient chatter of town REALLY grinds my nerves.
The same eight second bit, same annoying sounds over and over again.
-It’s just one piece of a broken mess, but really stops any desire to play, even if all other issues would be fixed.

For really annoying play Colonization, every time you click on a town it’s also the same 10 second loop. In FF I want better battle noises instead of some yelling. I want sword clanging, horses screaming, maybe a Wilhelm Scream when one of your people get killed.

I am enjoying this update and the town chatter myself, so don’t agree with the tone of your post. That said, I have noticed that some of the town chatter repeats a bit too often, or can be grating. Perhaps more space and variety in the audio would be beneficial, similar to the VO cooldown when clicking on villagers. There’s a particular sound of a girl laughing harshly like “glughlp haha! blurgh haha!” that is to me the worst offender.

I have to agree. I actually wound up muting the Ambient Sound in this game just to get rid of the urban chatter. Not only does it have to be longer to be less noticeable when it loops but there’s one particular part of the soundtrack that absolutely drove me nuts:

It’s like someone trying to sing, but they’re actually just screaming. They sing/scream the same note twice back to back, a second or so at a time, broken up by a handful of indiscernible “lyrics” then one final scream that’s higher pitched. Over and over again and it absolutely dominates the sound mix in the game.

It’s sad that I have to basically mute the Ambient Sounds track just to avoid this.

We actually updated the ambient track since this thread was made, including toning down/removing elements of it that were above the average pitch, so you’re going to have to be more very specific about what it is that’s particularly grating.

The sound that particularly grates on me is the woman gossiping about Bill? BILL? Goes into laughter

She’s the worst offender; everyone else is fine.

Oddly enough, when attempting to capture a video of the specific noise, which included me un-muting the Ambient soundtrack for the first time in a few in-game years, the constant looping of the grating singing/screaming is gone. The only other way I can really explain it without a proper recording is someone singing the word “HOOOOOOLLLLIDAY!” at the top of their lungs.

Anyways, this makes me think either something was looping over and over when it shouldn’t have been, or a specific combination of buildings somehow caused the behavior. In the time that I had the ambient track muted, I re-arranged my city slightly, so who knows… If the behavior returns I’ll be sure to respond here.

If you speak Portuguese, it’s pretty funny (though it gets old quickly), because it is always that one girl gossiping about the same thing over and over

I wonder if the devs thought it was just gibberish :)))

Yeah, there is a woman’s voice that really dominates the whole vocal track, like I’m in a coffee shop stuck listening to one woman talk loudly on the phone to someone else. she stands out enough that it makes the vocal loop really obvious.

@Zantai - one more thing, i wanted to create a post about this but I think this might go well here
Do you guys agree that the sound that plays when selecting military buildings especially cavalry ones are too loud? i think they have like 2x the volume compared to other buildings, would really like it to be less in volume

Started playing a new settlement recently after the last few playtest releases. The audio I described in July persists, though it isn’t looping like it was before (I legitimately believe that was a bug that I could not replicate reliably). I’ve managed to capture of a video of what I’m talking about. Whatever it’s supposed to be, it really stands out in the mix and I find myself lowering the volume while playing, even when just using desktop speakers.

Please note that I boost the volume half way through I’ve boosted the audio level to make the sound apparent (still safe levels, just make sure your system volume on your end is safe). Headphones recommended.

I think that’s a farm animal?

for me it’s the sort of isolated female voice saying something in like portuguese with ‘ye-eah!’ at the end that makes the noise loop really obvious, that has made me have to turn down the city noise. city/town noise needs to be white noise and isn’t, but when the loop isn’t obvious it’s nice. it’s just jarring when it hits that point in the loop and makes the loop obvious, so every minute or so i’m hearing ‘yea-eah!’.

I don’t have farm animals at this point of the game yet. It just sounds like some lunatic running around the city shouting/trying to sing. I’ve timed it, it occurs once approximately every 90 seconds, and it’s driving me nuts. I’ve actually had to mute the ambient sounds in the game again.

I couldn’t agree more. The “Laaa-laaa-dadadada-DAAA-daaa” gets me every time and makes me want to personally push that villager’s head under water until the bubbles stop.
