A while ago GrimDawnJohn put up a thread compiling the info about the Oathkeeper mastery available at that time, being late of August. It has never been updated since.

In the meanwhile a lot of new info has come our way. Permission was asked and granted to create a new thread.
With that said: what do we know about the Oathkeeper skills so far?

You might want to update Smite, since it got changed a bit.

It now has a 100% chance to pass thorugh enemies and got its crit damage replaced with increased damage against undead and chthonics instead.

You can see it on theprevious stream at 43:58.

Thank you for the info.

Looks like retaliation is still a useless stat unless the way it works is changed.
And shields still highly require the Soldier Mastery to be competitive.
Please correct me if I am wrong and someone made respective efficient builds.

You mean like “retaliation damage added to attack” which gives retaliation an offensive use?

I think the Oathkeeper skills and the amount of shields we have (and never used;)) + shield devotions could also work very well.

I wonder if retaliation is useful without these skills (not sure if the “retaliation damage added to attack” will have significant effect on DPS, let’s see). As far as I know, retaliation does nothing to ranged enemies and spell-casters even if they are in melee range (and probably all the bosses have a few spells they spend their time on). I would like to know if retaliation builds can be powerful despite these limitations.

As for the shields, 2 Soldier skills contribute as much as all the constellation passives, augments and components altogether. The question is whether it is possible to make a shield build as good as DW or 2H without Soldier. I tried once and failed :).
Considering shields as an instrument of offence, what are the decent Oathkeeper class combos, i.e. what masteries add shield damage to attacks?

That’s part of what the stat aims to do - help Retaliators deal with ranged enemies by having it appear on skills like Aegis of Menhir or Counter Strike. The other part is to make them more active, pretty sure Crate want to encourage Retaliators to do things than stand still and do nothing to kill stuff.

I know this is a bit premature but looking through these skills wouldn’t Demolitionist class be nearly worthless after the FG? The demolitionist has way too much overlap with the oathkeeper class with both supporting fire, lightning and physical damage

-Both have -rr Fire and lightning -rr but the oathkeepers mechanics for applying -rr seems to work far better and has -phy r on top of that
-Both have an auto attack replacers while the oathkeeper has WPS skills in addition to those.
-The demolitionist has fairly mediocre chaos support(without counting gear) while the oathkeeper has decent vitality and great acid support.

The only real advantage the demolitionist class I can see that it has brimstone for ranged and flash bang. Which seems rather meager consider all the other great skills oathkeeper has.

Why would you play a saboteur/commando/elementalist when you can play a dervish/warlord/Archon. Never mind comparing a defiler with a oppressor.
Only for a ranged purifier do I see a advantage for the demolitionist.

I agree I dont understand why we got physical fire and light I was hoping for chaos and shield block chance or something so we wouldn’t need soldier but the mastery does look sweet and regardless the expac will be interesting

No, it isn’t.

Nothing would change, really. Read: infiltrator/tactician/vindicator. I hope Crate will take the public opinion into advisement and considerably empower the demolitionist so that he has his own identity. I’d like to see something like clunky but high power explosive gameplay, as shieldbreaker, focused on massive debuffs and not very dependable high RNG but very powerful skills.

Assuming that you can block, do you guys think it’s worth building a sword and board oathkeeper focused on EoR or giving up that 30% off hand damage is too much of a waste?

And if you think it’s doable, can it work without taking soldier as 2nd mastery? (I know that this could change based on the new expansion items a bit, but at least overguard and the shield spec look like absolutely must for a shield build) cause paladin looks sick for a fire dmg build with steely resolve+aura of censure+deadly aim
