Fortified gates aren’t especially strong, which is OK since they are wood. There could be a Portcullis upgrade for each gate costing about 10 iron each which doubles the gate armor to 50. The wooden doors would remain and function as is, the Portcullis would “drop” in front of the doors when raiders are attacking.
