Sorry for this being so late, I pulled my back this morning and have been in agonizing amounts of pain.
L.A. Noire (75% off) - $12.49
An interesting concept but the engine has a great deal to be desired, and the game itself plays like a dumbed down point and click adventure.
Because of the motion capture technique they used for the faces, they were unable to use bump mapping as this would require a bump map for every frame of animation as opposed to a single bump map per texture, the result is a game that looks like its from 10 years ago.
There really is not an open world to speak of, you drive from mission to mission and that’s about it. I opted to let the computer drive because it just wasn’t fun and seemed like needless busy work.
The cases themselves follow the same pattern, find clues, interrogate people and link the clues to the statements. The voice acting is spotty, some being great, some being beyond awful but overall the cast of characters remains interesting.
For $12 this game is well worth the price, just so long as you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
Hitman franchise (75% off) - individual games for $2.49; all 3 games for $6.24
Hitman is a stealth shooter. You get your target and can go in quiet or noisy. The fewer people you kill, the less you are noticed the higher you score. On top of that it has an interesting plot and some great level design. The games are kinda old now and the first hitman requires some workarounds to get it to support widescreens but other than that the series runs fine.
Magicka (75% off) - $2.49; all DLC 75% off
Cute, funny and charming ARPG with a unique spell casting system and co-op based around the concept that you can and will kill your friends. Very fun chaos and remember, Vlad is not a Vampire.
Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale (66% off) - $5.09
So buggy most people can’t even finish a game. Skip this one.
Dead Island (50% off) - $19.99; DLC 50%
The trailer sadly set unrealistic expectations, but the game as it stands is a fun, and quite large hack and slash zombie gorefest. The game is intense and atmospheric when played solo but in a group it simply turns into a zombie curb stomp. Easily worth $20 to play solo or with a group of friends.
Bioshock games (75% off) - $4.99 each
Bioshock is an odd duck. On one hand the story, atmosphere, setting and characters are fantastic. On the other the Gameplay is clumsy and somewhat repetitive. Bioshock 2 was needless, it really adds nothing but has one or two stunning scenes near the end that are almost worth playing for. $10 for both is a steal.
Grid (75% off) - $3.74
Precision closed circuit racer that simultaneously punishes every mistake fiercely, and yet lets you have a do over. Worth a couple of dollars if you like the genre, very skippable if you are not a racing fan.
