Game deals

Ah dang, missed the sale! Is this the huge steam holiday sale everyone was talking about, or will another happen in December?

they will have a better one durring christmass if you ask me this wasent that great of a sale. AVP demo was awsome it made me pre order it the game is awsome to but sadly theres no one playing multiplayer maybe we can form a group here to play avp!

After Christmas. This sale was limited to a very few items, and the big holiday sale usually has almost everything on sale. I didn’t buy anything in the Thanksgiving sale on Steam this year.

Steam got me too!

Picked up Metro 2033 for 10$, Dirt 2 for 5$, and KOTR for $2.50!

ps. only 6 hours left on these sales.

Someone care to comment on Metro2033? Is there any RPG aspect (ala Borderlands)? Is it always in tunnels and darkness? (I sort of cannot deal with an entire game like that, even Hellgate was too much for me).

The price is right, whats good about the game?

From what people have told me it’s like STALKER but without the huge open world and more story driven.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Metro2033 as it was one of the reasons I wanted a GTX 580. Now that I have the card I was able to pick up the game on sale and it does not disappoint.

Its like if Stalker, FEAR, Hellgate and Halflife made sweet sweet love to each others good points.

For the Thanksgiving Sale the indie packs did a number on me also as they were that gate way of ā€œWell if Im picking these up and they are so cheap, I could also getā€¦ā€ but I did end up skipping half of them because I had most of the games in the pack and I skipped the Pulse pack because I had the one really amazingly good game in there already and knew from the demo’s that two of the others gave me migraines.

What I did manage to pick up was:

Aliens vs. Predator, Metro 2033, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, World of Goo, Iron Grip: Warlord, Eufloria, Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, VVVVVV, Defense Grid: The Awakening, Gish, And Yet It Moves, Puzzle Agent, Jolly Rover, Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale.

All for $36.77

I’ve owned Metro since the summer sale and haven’t downloaded it. I had decided to start with Stalker and quickly determined I didn’t like it. Maybe Metro is different enough that I should actually install it one of these days. I think half my Steam library consists of uninstalled games, haha.

I played a bit of metro33 and I thought it was kinda cool.

Post apocalyptic, poor russians, cool underground areas, evil demons, awesome darkness, sweet redneck-inspired guns, etc. I didn’t play much but it looked cool from the first 30 mins or so.

Steam sale starts Dec 20th from what I’ve read. Start saving for it now if there’s anything you’re wanting to pick up…

Just Cause 2 is only $7.50 right now on Steam. Best price I’ve seen by far for it.

Steam holiday sales have started again, check it out; http://store.steampowered.com/

The most interesting deal on there is imo the THQ complete pack with 81% off. Lots of great games in there. Too bad I own most of them already

The 2K megapack is also a great deal, once again, got most games…

I’m thinking about (one of the) Prince of Persia games. Heard Sands of Time is great. I haven’t play any Prince of Persia games since the very first one though. Deus Ex box and Bad Company 2 might be somewhat interesting, though I think I’ll pass on them, Deus Ex seems to be too dated and Bad Company 2, well, I’d need friends to play it with.

The THQ pack is the same one I picked up this summer with the same games. I’ve only a played a handful of them, but I certainly feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

The entire Dawn of War collection makes for a great RTS game with a huge variety of races and weaponry to choose from. My son and I love playing co-op on that one. Dawn of War II can also be fun, but I prefer the more traditional gameplay and increased race count in the original.

Red Faction: Guerrilla was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed playing that one recently.

TQ and IT speak for themselves on this board. I think 95% of the people here already own these.

Stalker is a well regarded game, but I couldn’t get into it. Out of the THQ collection, the next game I’d want to play would be Saints Row 2. I need to finish Just Cause 2 first though.

I’m waiting on Dead Rising 2 or Assassin’s Creed 2 being a deal of the day in the coming two weeks. Their price now is attractive, but just not there yet for me.

Mass Effect 2 for $8 on gamersgate.com…

Damn lol…these sales are getting ridiculous! I just don’t have enough time for all these games.

Digital distribution is the best thing that ever happened to PC gaming!

Very true. I think it is the only thing that saved PC gaming at all to be honest. Aside from some niche genres (wargames, deep strategy games, RTS, adventure games), everything else is primarily designed around a console now. That’s where the money is, whether we like it or not. Whether or not that’s due to the PC being an easier platform for piracy (note I said easier, obviously all systems since at least the Playstation have been capable of being ā€œmoddedā€), or perhaps simply due to the fact that maintaining a console is a lot cheaper than keeping a PC up to date, is up for debate.

I would take your comment a step further and say that Indie developers are the absolute best thing to happen to PC gaming. Without those guys, I’m convinced all we’d get is console ports. The best part about indie games is I can likely stop spending so much money every few years building PC tower after PC tower. They tend to focus more on gameplay then the latest whizbang graphics that are going to cost me more in JUST a video card than a 360 or PS3 cost.

Prince of Persia 2008 could have been a nice platformer as a change of pace from what I normally play (in between any available tomb raider releases).

It is a console port obviously. I think button icons onscreen at times, in game, near the middle of the screen. I think it is awful.

The game thinks you need to press more buttons, and that, by this you will be entertained to a greater degree. You can climb walls and move across ceilings but if there is a brass ring you move over – and you see yourself move over it – for some reason your character will decide to fall to its death unless you pressed some key that you normally dont press like ā€œEā€. Randomly? or through unskillful action, you start to slip and then need to press the key.

The powers become even more ridiculous as time goes on but that might be passable. – but it takes the control away from you for a time. You have to press the key or die some times, so you have to pay attention.

Boss battles started requiring button mashing contests to win. My mouse didnt cooperate with this or I somehow had to time them right. This was the last straw. Too bad.

There might have been some issues related to not being able to predict if you were going to jump away or along a wall – but it wasnt too bad.

A lot of effort went into making the game and the graphics – that was pretty good. If they had adjusted the boss battles substituting something else for the buttom mash contests or even eliminated them – the game would have been ok. If they removed some of the other problems … it could have been much better.

I looked at a few reviews near release, I dont think they mentioned these issues. They probably play a lot of console games, so they didnt notice?

sands of time was too easy, I think the boss battles weren’t that great, including the last one, the second one was ok, but the third one was glitched, one boss battle you had to time your button presses, it was meant to flash (the blade when the time was right, but for many, this never happened, and plenty complained, plenty of google results on this one issue alone, but the devs and publisher (ubisoft) it is that one right? never acknowledge the problem, plus I think all the games were a bit bugged in one respect or another, can’t remember, The Two Thrones is the one Im talking about

after which, I never bothered to play any others, but all in all, a very disappointing series to be honest

Just got Dawn of war 2 Gold, seemed like a game I might be into any of you guys own it?

I got it.

Great game btw.

Great Co-op and single player game… really terrible competitive Multiplayer.

After playing with FoK with the original DoW, I just couldn’t do the small maps and small unit sizes with the emphasis on zerg rushing rather than countering unit for unit in DoW2’s MP.

That being said, I had an amazing amount of fun playing it with my friend co-op.
