I’ve been enjoying Farthest Frontier, especially with the addition of new production chains, but I think there’s room for improvement. One thing that stood out to me is that not every production chain has a clear target or purpose, which makes a huge difference when planning and expanding. This was a key reason why people loved Settlers 3 and 4 – each product had an important role in the game’s progression.
Additionally, the pacing feels quite slow. Reaching 150 villagers for Tier 3 takes a long time and is challenging, particularly since there isn’t a mechanism to significantly boost immigration. It’s hard to expand without the necessary villagers. And why does it take 4 villagers to move just 5 cows? Otherwise, cow birth rates remain at zero, which feels unbalanced.
I’d love to see more attention to detail, ensuring that the products we create actually matter. For example, beer currently seems to just make people unhappy in the tavern – why not make it boost military strength when supplied to a military camp? Enhancing the depth and purpose of production chains would make a big difference and bring more life to the game.
