Since I mentioned yellow magic items in my ‘auto-loot change’ post, that reminded me of another potential alteration, that while certainly more involved than a loot pickup change, would definitely be a novel option.
Now, I’m fairly sure that nearly all players, once they reach a fairly early level, almost completely ignore ‘Yellow Magic’ items, except to sell them. Overwhelmingly, it isn’t even worth the time to read every one for that almost unique mix of stats that could make it as useful as a Green Rare. Those are rarer than Legendaries, for sure.
Grim Dawn certainly isn’t unique in this regard, many Action-Adventure games end up with the same issue. The early magic items are completely trash & ignored. (Although I should mention ‘Warhammer 40k- Inquisitor: Martyr’ actually DOES have a system that gives the cheap magic items some utility- They are vastly cheaper to upgrade. The Higher Quality of an item, the more resources it takes to improve them. In that game the rarest items are painfully expensive to Power Up,)
Now, GD doesn’t have to go that route, but what about something simple? Say, making all the requirements for all Yellow items 25% less than Green & up? Perhaps even a 50% reduction. Either way, it would make the already wonderfully maddening process of trying to decide which Item is the best to wear, even MORE painfully fun!
