Grenado Purifier needs some love

There are zero 1.3+ grenado builds for purifier. The latest one is from 1.2.1.4 for cold damage. Grenado meanwhile has items for fire and chaos conversion, neither of which is utilised for a purifier build.
I’m obviously not the #1 player when it comes to builds or speedrunning the game, but I probably am in a good percentage of players who also are not top 5 bullders/speedrunners.

I wanted to build a fire grenado build using mythical hellborne but that didn’t quite work out that well.

I then tried a chaos grenado build with the mark of ulzuin and this is completely unviable.

There has to be something done about grenado purifier as at the minute before 1.3.1 comes out (with the changes to charges to rune of kalastor), demolitionist+inquisitor feels weak and shoehorned into fire strik with WPS.

(If I’m wrong and you have a working 1.3+ grenado build please feel free to correct me and link it here.)

genuinely, what is the expectation there?
Anguish belt, omega low HP, 0 class modifier bonus, missing comps. +all the piano in the world
And when you have no “specific” utilization of the class, what do you expect it to do better/over another class on top? Ex chaos grenado DK or Pyro?
Likewise hellborne nado Shieldbreaker was a thing, but if you’re building your hellborne like the chaos Puri, it would be little surprising if it felt poor too, even if it would “always” be poorer than SB for it (innate synergy differences)
*edit, deliberately not posting Heaphs busted grenado build using the same crossbow since it outright relies on exploits to 1shot Übers and stuff getting patched out

I’ve never done a grenado purifier but I’d think you want to either go with a Barrelsmith setup or use the new Adversary and build around that.

There: Purifier, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Took me 10 mins just by searching item mods in grimtools

Why make a chaos Purifier when neither class has an ultimate ability that gives % chaos dmg? Pyromancer is miles better on all fronts for a chaos grenado.

gotta change amulet or you have a bunch of lost dmg Vilgazor's Heart - Rare Amulet - Grim Dawn Item Database

I expected to be able to make a build that works that is purifier with chaos grenado. I tried multiple belts, skills, items (I only linked 2 examples, non-completed for reference) and none of them was good. Demolitionist+berserker grenado build can 1 shot bosses, and demolitionist+purifer fire strike works but I cannot make the chaos grenado work (and the fire grenado is either worse or equally bad).

Yes, HP is very low, that is my issue. I cannot make a chaos grenado build with 18k+ hp, 4.5k OA, 3k DA, and 2000%+ (ideally 2500%+) chaos damage bonus. It just doesn’t work, but I’m open to someone making a build and testing it and posting it.

Piano is a problem, at a minimum the build needs flashbang + word of pain + thermite mines. Add inquisitor seal, grenado of course, solael’s component debuff, and potentially ravager gaze debuff, and it’s already a piano (even without beronath gaze).

The idea behind this class combination in theory, which is frustrating because it’s great in theory but sucks in practice, is that crit damage and OA can get stacked for grenado to work really well. Inquisitor has crit damage and OA from deadly aim + arcane empowerment, grenado has crit damage from its skill, so it should be a very good combination, where you throw grenados with massive crit damage with buffs that are constantly up.

Shieldbreaker grenado is something I might turn into once/if I level my SB (currently at 66).

Adversary is good but I think it works better on shieldbreaker no? it also reads that it’s tailored towards canister bomb + grenado combination to have minimal cooldowns on both of them no? Also, playing inquisitor without seal to me felt kind of weird.

I have 1 or 2 vilgazor hearts which I was using while levelling up but dropped recently especially when I tried a chaos build.

Even post nerf without testing I’m 99% sure chaos dreadnaught grenado is going to be better than chaos purifier grenado.

like Pistachio said, Purifier has no chaos advantage over 3 other actual chaos classes, so it doesn’t make as much sense there to have equal big expectations.
For the HP your issue is straight up itemization - you need to pick stuff with actual HP. And or resist enough to let you use HP augs. Component choice also makes little sense from it, there’s not a single hp comp in there and you’re using low grade ones on top. (you’re even using gloves without chaos dmg or cast speed/“build stats” on top)
For piano the issue is your skill comboing (you don’t need flame+dreadgaze+bwc+blazing eruption while taking FB etc)

Like i said, you can take the hellborn SB as example, “just” flip it to a pyro, but it will always be worse off as the class synergy for rata crit fire dmg is just lesser.
And for chaos you then will (likely) have the same scenario, the other chaos classes will just always be superior even if you take the “same” already functional build and flip the class on it, simply from their native synergy.

Eyo bros, that’s my Dreadnaught build? :joy:

(It feels strange, but I’m also glad to see my Build featured as a “better/over". That said, considering the Purifier has less Chaos Damage %, that is undeniably true)

ye like i said, i didnt’ wanna post Heaph’s because “exploits”
But also, i think it’s just not a comparable approach to take Unmakers on Purifier, and expect much of anything; no filler, no booster, and you’re turning the skill into double the CD but with less usage. So even if doing he stretch of going chaos puri, i think Yurra probably just fits better since can be turned into something semi regular possibly (even if not going Apoclypton canister on top ofc)

edit. i’m not going to remotely claim this is a “good” build (low sustain) Purifier, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator - but atleast there are stats there/something to work with from a starting point, with several drawbacks like piano also removed
edit edit, realized we can cap high impact switching pants  Purifier, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

I did do a cold 'nado Dreadnaught, but got distracted by a ton of other builds I’ve been tinkering with and working on. Anyhow:

Ideally we’d finally get a Grenado offhand that worked with cold/fire, but alas, Zantai’s addicted to Chaos 'nades :upside_down_face: So ended up using that offhand. Damage though will be reduced sadly due to the Onslaught Stack’s nerf when patch 1.3.1.0 is released.

Alas, I’d need chaos to fire conversion for the 2nd and the 1st only has +crit damage and no +1 to all skills in a mastery, which with Grenado is a major help, because it’s a points hog

As to why chaos grenado, I tried fire grenado briefly, so I figured maybe chaos would outperform it (in theory this didn’t seem like a bad idea; death sentence + hellfire mine are actually slightly better than aura of censure + thermite mines with 5% extra RR and 4 fewer skillpoints; aura of conviction gives % phys res + flat OA; and the devotions are arguably much better than the fire ones).

Yes for the components/gear I didn’t save to grimtools the builds I tried and then I only recreated 1 of them with some of the items as an example, I tried corpse dusts and both of the hand armor components too).

Yes this is the point of my thread, other grenado combinations are just better than purifier (such as berserker).
I actually did have 2 yura’s eyes in my inventory/stash but didn’t use them as they’d clearly fit demolitionist+berserker much better.

I also have 1-2 items (not the full set) to convert grenado to cold but yeah the demolitionist+nightblade would be much stronger with the rimetongue set than +inquisitor. I didn’t try it yet as I don’t have most of the items though so maybe cold grenado purifier is good (to me it doesn’t even matter since nightblade is just so much better).

Regarding fire grenado, I have hellscourge (2 of them i think) but it just doesn’t seem like that strong of a build. The crit damage is nice but I think the wps+fire strike purifier version is just much stronger.
