On Normal/Veteran self-found the player can just skip him until the player has enough resistances (namely fire + vitality).
I play semi-twinked and even I skip Kilrian on Veteran because my character hasn’t reached level 28 yet for Twilight Signets by the time I can fight him.
BTW props to the devs for getting the hotfix out before Christmas. I remember them doing something similiar last Christmas.
Because it makes sense to skip a boss on Normal/Veteran, just because he is overtuned for said difficulty, that shouldn’t force new players to have maxed resistances so early…
Seriously, you guys are so defensive when it comes down to difficulty balance that it’s cute. Nobody is saying to tone him down on Ultimate or even Elite, but to tone him down a bit on Normal, because Normal should be acessible for everybody to play without having to skip any bosses… this is just dumb and nonsensical, especially with the fact that he guards a devotion shrine.
Unfortunatelly, this community has been plagued with toxic and elitist fanboys for ever since the game was released, and now you can’t drop a single complaint about a certain monster being too strong without having someone attacking your build or your gear. A boss is one/two-shotting you down in less than 2 secs and before you can even react properly, with almost maxed resistances and not even on the highest difficulty? “Working as intended”, amirite?
Just you wait until this expansion gets released and all this hype ends, then check back here a few months later, and you’ll see how these boards will be mostly dead, with only a few players here and there.
Not sure where this thread is going but to be clear, once you learn the game you don’t need to skip any boss in normal or vet. Resistances are not necessary during the early game. All you need to be able to do is kite a little. :undecided:
I have nothing against tuning some bosses down for new players but, anyone who has played through the game a few times should be able to beat every boss on early difficulty’s.
Moosilauke is not faster (that I’ve noticed). The only change seems to be that regular skeletons (knights/warlocks/priests included) gained the ability to run. Ghosts are unchanged. On knights (and their hero variants) this is most noticeable, given that they were previously the slowest of the lot.
There was a slight buff to the ‘strength’ of the Undead faction, but not so significantly that it’s noticeable at higher levels, where the Undead remain cannon fodder.
no one forces you to fight him or even enter SoT right away. I usually wait a bit because self-found means I might not be up for the task (clearibg the challenge dungeon that is) just yet.
As to resistances, I barely have any when I enter and still kill him. You certainly do not need more than 20-30% and can do it with 0%
So, I don’t have to worry about skeletons slowly walking up to me from afar when checking out gear or talking to the tyrant hold blacksmith? That sounds like a great qol fix to me
I actually started playing this game a few days back on veteran. I have a lvl 32 pyromancer (fire strike) who was actually only level 29 in Undercity and while fighting Kilrian yesterday. Obviously I’m not twinked in any way but that boss was quite easy to kite without any movement -impairing skills. Only thing to watch out for was the green arrow thing which ticked for some nasty damage if I got hit by it - easy to avoid anyhow. It’s probably a different experience as melee but I registered just to speak out against the mollycoddlers whining about overtuning…
If anything I’m playing really lazily without any stun jacks or other stuff and just relying on good old kiting.
I’m not an elite player here just an ordinary one like you. And i can understand your pain. I felt the same way when just started playing GD. But believe me it is so easy in Normal-Veteran even for un-twinked characters once you understand how you should gear your toon and what skills/ devotion you need to take and in what order and so on… no need to make it easier. But damage spikes and that yo-yo on HP bar on Ultimate should really be seen to.
So basically, you registered only to trash talk… I mean, because easily beating a boss with a ranged build automatically means it’s the same as playing with a melee build, amirite? Now try him with a melee build, without twinked gear… because it’s easier to just dismiss a feedback as being just someone “whining”, or even using that popular slang among kids… what was it again? “Git Gud”, right? Because these are the true “constructive” feedbacks that are healthy and helpful for the game… But by all means, keep going with that elitist trend… you’re only helping to kill your own game slowly, as any hopes for build diversity will be lost each time this type of bullshit gets pushed forward with these patches. You’re slowly turning this game into Diablo 3 (in terms of build diversity), WITHOUT even realizing it!
It still is not that hard, esp. if you have e.g. Shadow Strike or Blitz. What you should not do is stay in melee range the whole time and assume you can just pummel him to death.
Go in, stay as long as you can and then kite until you are healed up again and your safety skills / health potions are off their cooldown and available again.
Kilrian has a Black Legion bounty iirc , and AU is now conveniently next to a riftgate, so skipping him at first and coming back once you can pick up that extra BL rep is the sensible thing to do anyways, assuming you don’t want to clear (many) areas in Vet several times.
Melee auto-attack builds being forced into kiting is always going to be frustrating, though, even if the drop in damage and clear speed isn’t (much) greater than that of a ranged auto-attack build forced to kite more. It feels different, somehow much more unsatisfactory, at least to me.
It’s still better to skip him until resistances are high. Once they are, you CAN just stand still and pummel him, especially if you have a sustain like Wendigo Totem. It’s a lot faster and easier than running around.
I am not saying better gear does not help, that would obviously be nonsense. I am saying it is not needed, contrary to the claim I replied to (emphasis mine)
I think we can both agree that he’s really not forced to skip it. But it would be more difficult/time consuming if he chose not to skip it while playing melee.
The point wasn’t how “1337” I am but how when even a total noob to the game can beat an “overtuned” encounter without deaths in reasonable time and while being underleveled it kinda sounds like some people are overexaggerating things.
Path of Exile has build diversity despite having some very demanding encounters. And while balancing melee always seems difficult in ARPGs I’d rather have a game where the players have fairly similar powerlevels/performance than a game where content is so easy that anything goes “because build diversity”. The devs will have to bring melee up to par if the standard that builds are supposed to meet is higher - otherwise it’s easy to look at something and say “ehh it can handle this (easy) content, it’s ok”. The effects of this can already be seen on the build compendium; out of 81 builds 8 have the crucible tag (hard to say how many have omitted it despite being capable of it though). Out of those 8 four are melee and the other four are ranged/caster so at the very top end of the scale it seems fairly balanced between ranged and melee. I didn’t check the class distribution though.
If melee can hack it at the top I’m quite sure they can also handle some lvl 33ish boss. Make sure that as many well-planned builds as possible from as many class combinations as possible can handle the top tier content and the rest will follow.
Actually GD has the same issue as TQ in that melee is relatively weak early on but gets much stronger as the game progresses. It’s just due to way the game is designed.
Really? Have you ever made a dual-blade NB? Even a sword and board Cadence? Maybe throw Forcewave along with that Cadence to really smooth out the start?
I can start fresh with either and be rockin’ everything from the word go. By the time I’ve made it to SS and Blitz it’s lights out.
