GD forums toxic?
Majority of the people here are so fluffy that at times you get the strong desire to beat them with a stick, to see any different reaction than calmness and positivity.
Most of the threads are about pragmatic discussion, with no passion an hard feelings.
There were times I thought Zantai was running bots for automatic replies, just for the SEO and popularity.
If willing to see genuine elitists and blatant toxicity, visit PoE forums for comparison.
I did go over the large amount of positive reviews, and then I decided to pick a few quotes from the negative ones and give some feedback on those. So do not claim that I did not cover positive reviews.
What do you does not seem to get, is that I took a couple of quotes from negative reviews and gave my reply to them in the video. On
The 5/10 score on the community was not based on the negative reviews, but on other things - mostly MY OPINIONS. For instance some Diablo 2 players actually think bots on Battle.net and forum gold are among the best things that has happened to Diablo 2 multiplayer since the invention of the dial-up modem. I did not look into statistics or anything regarding “bots sucks”. But in MY OPINION those things are very negative and thus influence the score for Diablo 2 in the community category.
I think you are putting too much weight into it, the score is based ON MY OPINIONS. It is not even an OFFICIAL GRIM DAWN REVIEW it is a PERSONAL OPINION BASED COMPARISON Diablo 2 vs. Grim Dawn, that’s it.
All in all, Grim Dawn win in all categories over Diablo 2 apart from community. And if I would only factor in Grim Dawn official forum, I think I would have given Grim Dawn at least 6, perhaps 7 out of 10 points in that section.
Grim Dawn is one of my fav games ever, I play it like 2-3 hours everyday and as you see, I have +1000 posts here in about 6 months time (so clearly I am enjoying this forum LOL it’s not like I have 10 posts and then make a rant video about it) and you will also discover that I have plenty of beginner friendly content. So I am working my ass off to make Grim Dawn accessible to more people. The Diablo 2 vs. Grim Dawn video series took me about 20 hours to make.
Thanks, that would be helpful for everybody to see more comments and opinions on the game on the actual videos.
There are more GD communities besides this particular forum.
Yeah, I was actually thinking about making a PoE vs. GD video series too, but I am not as proficient at PoE as I wish to be (+ I have not played it in like 2 years so LOL)
And I would commend you for that. That’s actually the area I work toward as well via playtesting. Alot of my feedback to them is often toward making the game more accessible and friendly for new players precisely. Some of it has even made it in-game at times. I push this alot because I am a new player type player… as-in I tend to start the game fresh frequently so I see often what new people are going to see and experience versus many of the other testers who more often tend to be higher build focused, which has its role in GD as well.
And then alot of my Steam forum time (and here as well) goes toward helping people having technical issues playing the game actually be able to play the game. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how many that might be but lets just say a whole lot since roughly 2014.
I will add in the opening post in this thread that if I would have done the series TODAY it would have had a different format, content and my opinions have changed a bit. And if I would do the Video series again in 3 months from now, they for sure will have changed a bit again…
Yes, there are couple of places where GD community is presented, but forums, if I am not mistaken, is the biggest. And many forum members also visiting steam forums, discord, subreddit. So I think it’s not terrible idea to look at forum if you wanna see what the community is.
Also, if you telling new players that community is toxic, you literally saying its as bad as lol or dota community, for example. Thats why I have problem with your take on GD community, I think it’s misleading and creating wrong impression on new players (who is target audience of your video series).
P.S. Anyway, thanks for doing introduction to Grim Dawn.
Sounds like a plan… maybe wait until after FG for a new beginner series so you can include discussion content on the new stuff? Or you could just do an episode or 2 solely focused on fleshing out the new things introduced perhaps and how they might relate to a person just beginning GD.
Perhaps, but I am comparing with Diablo II here. Compared to lol and dota, Grim Dawn communities are like my grandmas tea servings in comparison.
If I were to “literally saying its as bad as lol or dota community” I would actually have said so literally you know. You mean that from your experience and point of view, the term “toxic” is a label that is put on lol and dota forums/community.
Again, I am comparing with Diablo II, so the intention is not being misleading or comparing with other games.
Activity is much higher on steam and discord than on this forum actually, so hard to measure what is “biggest”.
Yeah I have that planned too but first I want to “forge while the iron is hot” (diablo immortal fiasco*) and try to make a much shorter general introduction video to Grim Dawn. But I have no idea how, I mean I spent HOURS trying to figure out what NOT to include in the series discussed in this thread and still ended up being like 5 hours long LOL
*yes it is my opinion that diablo immortal is a fiasco
EDIT: I have covered Forgotten gods in this video series already
It’s hard to say on that count, discord I have no idea but I’ve often felt that Steam and Official often run about the same, some days Steam even has less activity.
It’s worth considering how many ‘lurkers’ as well. If you look we have 650 people lurking this forum right now. 2 days ago there were nearly a thousand lurking. And who’s to even say how many people on the Steam forum since we can’t really see that there (that I know of).
By all means, take advantage of that DI momentum then if you can. This whole thing just came out of nowhere really, surprised me, and bam… now PoE and even GD are seeing an influx. I’m sure some of the lesser discussed diablo-likes might have even seen a bump as well.
I’m going to be real interested to see if this backlash is going to actually persist or if the moment they start flaunting D4 (on PC) if all that outflow doesn’t begin reversing.
Well for me, its not a competition or so. But I do know that even to this day, there are soo many dedicated Diablo players (both in II and III) that has not even heard of, yet less, tried Grim Dawn (and other diablo like games), since they so deep into their paragon grinds and finding all items in D2 etc.
The diablo immortal fiasco is perhaps a way for all fans of other diablo-like arpgs to show those players that blizzard does not have “mandate” on the arpg scene. And that there are other games to play while waiting for Diablo 4 and/or Diablo 2 remaster.
I might need to try to remember my Blizzard account info one of these days actually now that you remind me. Haven’t played D2 in a long time now but like many I was always a fan of the game.
