You can kill them within 3 seconds with a twinked -100% cooldown character, unless you’ve installed Underlord or a similar mod which “makes things right” for TQ.
But that’s not the case. ARPG bosses are always easy to trample once you passed the gear check and know what attacks (usually telegraphed well in advance) to watch out for. What I meant by “epic” is that there’s a huge Lore buildup before the Typhon fight which makes it FEEL like a boss. In GD, there’s just this blob that’s supposedly Cthonic. And that’s it. There’s some lore about it being summoned, but there’s no buildup before it and it just feels thrown in there. Warden Kreig is generally done better (regarding buildup), but not intimidating enough, neither is Cronley.
Big, intimidating and with a solid buildup - that’s what GD needs for a boss.
All that buildup is thrown out of the window when the boss is super easy, like Typhon and Hades. It needs to have good buildup and be strong too, it can’t be just one of them.
Not to mention all TQ does is build up Typhon because he’s the center of the story. GD has several factions with different bosses in different areas, can’t really build them up in the same way you can with a boss in three full acts.
Well, if you abuse Sapros, pierce or CDR spammage, yeah they take less than that. Typhon/Hydra could be killed in 3 seconds like that. It was/is broken mechanic.
None of that, just a regular Warden using shield wps skills. Typhon is dead before the Study Prey debuff is over and Hades dies too before that debuff is over. All on Legendary. Hydra dies in around 10-12 seconds with my Warden build. I don’t even have top gear in my Warden, don’t have a single piece of the Poseidon set.
All i’m saying the buildup needs to have a good pay off and Typhon and Hades have an extremely lame pay off, really underwhelming.
Lots of stuff to explore without backtracking to lower difficulties. That’s awesome!
But what about unlocking Elite/Ultimate after the expansion is released. Will we unlock Elite/Ultimate on new chars after beating Log or only after beating the expansion acts? I ask that because going through all 6 acts in 3 difficulties will be fun the first time, but will get tiresome on subsequent characters. I don’t like that Elite difficulty exists and I prefer to finish it fast so I can enjoy Ultimate.
Nice! I’ll probably still beat the expansion on Veteran with new chars, because I enjoy Normal and Ultimate, but I’m definitely skipping Elite’s expansion acts.
The problem, in my opinion, is that when you reach a certain gear, the game is too easy. It was like this in Titan Quest and it is the same in Grim Dawn now. I don’t know if an adjustment will be done in the expension but I doubt it will be corrected. Furthermore, the gear that you need to be OP is not that hard to obtain, wich is in my opinion the real problem. Sure, you can enjoy the game the way it is when you acomplished all the quests, hidden bosses and stuff. But after a certain time there’s nothing more to do because there’s no challenge at all.
if you have many chars, you should never get bored - of course if the main game doesn’t bore you. GD offers some decent options, and testing their viability is fun by itself. I’ve made a couple unique builds that not many people played or even thought of - it was a lot of fun and some actually turned out extremely strong.
How to make ARPGs last longer? don’t read other people’s guides, don’t follow any guides, do everything the hard way - learn about what works and what doesn’t yourself.
And don’t expect miracles. As long as you’re having fun killing monsters, you’re set. To me, GD has some very satisfying animations (both attacking/casting and death animations of monsters) and simply killing stuff is fun!
I’d love a mythic tier of items of course (super rare, super exciting to get - see underlord mod for TQ) but since most people don’t, we will most likely never see these in an unmodded GD.
[QUOTE=GrimDawnJohn;533616]At which point you reroll a new character / try out a different build.
I’m doing this since 2006 and that’s why I’m asking for more. As I said you can continue playing the game for what it is, as I did for more than 10 years. But the lack of difficulty and challenge is present. And the reason why I’m saying this it’s because it’s one of my dream actually. I’m not asking for endless difficulties like diablo 3 or something. What I have in mind is a fourth and final difficulty with monsters and bosses of same level and difficulty through all acts that can be very challenging, like very. Because actually the last difficulty that we have now is kind of normal and easy when you reach the end game. So, there’s a lack somewhere. So my dream is said, that it.
You see. This is why I’m not sure I could handle being a dev without walking out the door and taking a Louisville Slugger to the first random Corvette I see.
For every person wanting one thing there’s that other person wanting the exact opposite. Prior to your post just now there have been numerous posts by people bitching about having to play thru 3 difficulties and now you just casually stroll in wanting them to add a 4th difficulty.
Can you see Crate sitting there with lil wtf comic bubbles all around their heads? I can. Oh wait, I think I see Zantai pulling out a revolver… Zantai, don’t do it!!
Actually, it’s really nice that they can read our opinions at least. It’s a very rare occasion for fans to be read like this. The thing is that they will read us and they will decide what they will do. So perhaps there’s bad ideas and good ideas. But the main idea is to tell them what we are thinking :). The revolver is not necessary
