Grim Misadventure #142: A Shattering Revelation

For most Grim Dawn fans this expansion is a must-buy, and it will most certainly get new players into the game due to the gamemode, which people are familiar with from other ARPGs.

Grim Dawn will get another expansion after FG, I’m calling it.

Think I’d rather take note of what Zantai had to say in the 25th May stream.

"Any plans for new expansions post Forgotten Gods?
Fogotten Gods isn’t even out yet and you’re asking me for expansions after that. That will depend entirely on how Forgotten Gods does, but realistically the team would probably like to try some new things soon. We can’t be working on Grim Dawn forever. And financially speaking each expansion will sell less than the last. So keeping that in mind, while we expect Forgotten Gods to pay for itself and make us a profit as a company I’m not sure it’ll sell as well as Ashes of Malmouth did. That’s just the nature of people moving on to other games.

When we move on from Grim Dawn, will there be any possibility of picking Grim Dawn back up in the future - perhaps 5 or so years later?
I would certainly say that’s entirely possible. We’re not ruling out potentially doing a Grim Dawn 2 some day or some other games in the Grim Dawn universe. That’s all up to what the future holds. It’s too early to say."

Better to aim for a GD 2 than make yet another expansion which will only make the current game longer.

Most of the team have been working on GD since 2012-2013 so yeah, they need to tackle something different. I hope we get to see what else our clever and sneaky devs can come up with to keep us entertained. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, since Forgotten Gods will be a side step, it’ll fall on an eventual Grim Dawn 2 to tale the fight to the capitol and stop the Aetherial threat once and for all.
While I appreciate GD (and AoM) not ending on a “you have defeated the source of evil and everyone lives happily ever after” tune, I’d definitely would like to see that humanity actually wins the war and rebuilding the world becomes possible.

The devs actually don’t want that. They want the game to end on a vague note.

I see someone in the art department is a fan of The Neverending Story…

So normally how many tease we will have before everything is out?
Just can’t wait anymore! :furious:
This will be an awesome expansion!

As many as it takes the expansion to be finished of course. Or would you rather the devs didn’t give us any info at all?

There were 28 Misadventures between the first tease of AoM and its eventual release.

That was in just over a year though. Given that FG was announced in March and the devs are aiming for a release some time this year here’s hoping we don’t reach that many.

I like that this new gamemode offers a good way to farm items “efficiently” for people without Crucible.
Can’t wait to play.

All good dude, I didn’t mean the eyeroll emote to be like a real eyeroll, I just find the emoticon funny, because the eyes are rolling in all directions which a human can’t do.

I’m super excited by this expansion! Given their previous work, I’m sure that it will be high quality new content yet again.

Also, it’s both hilarious and sad to see so many people bickering of an expansion they have not played and still know very little off. Sure, these updates can give you the impression that you know how it will be, but jeez, I’m amazed at the confidence of some who pronounce that “they will not like it” or “it will be this way and that is good/bad”. Oh well, I guess that you’re just excited and emotionally involved - and that’s great.

On a slightly related note: to those looking at the representation of campaign/crucible builds on this forum… just remember that those builds are not (necessarily) representative of the majority of the players, nor of what the top 1% plays, nor of how people tend to play such builds. It’s a biased selection of builds that are written up by a biased (i.e., non-representative) group of people. In other words, don’t over-interpret or extrapolate based on such data ;).

Looks like Rifts are coming to Grim Dawn?

:))))

When are you guys going to focus your efforts on supporting PROPER multiplayer functions? In history successful arpgs have/had this. If you ever want this game to really take off is that not part of your future plans? How about a global channel? Something instead of the complete solo feel while hosting numerous multiplayer games hoping someone will join?

They’re not, not for this game. Re dedicated servers Zantai had this to say in the stream on 25th May:

“As the question comes up all the time I will answer it one more time on stream. Dedicated servers would be a cool feature. I think if we were to have it, it would have to have happened when the game was new, when we could actually garner attention for the game and get people excited for the fact there are dedicated servers, there are seasons and all these hardcore multiplayer features. Instead we focussed on a single player experience, that is ultimately what Grim Dawn is about and we’re sticking to that, it’s working well for us. I think dedicated servers would be great, they will not happen for this game. Maybe Grim Dawn 2.”

Grim Dawn is primarily a single player game, it was designed that way. Whether Crate will design other games with more multiplayer options we’ll just have to wait and see.

1.5 Million copies is still just taking off/not successful? Sheesh…

Oh yay - another gaming expert. How’s your game coming along, slicplaya? Can’t wait to see that one “take off”.

Is that just the base game Zantai or including Crucible and AoM?

hopefully never, that is completely overrated by the 5-10% that insist on it… I much rather have anything else

In history successful arpgs have/had this.

nonsense, most ARPGs do not have it. Just because D3 does (and the F2P PoE) does not mean it is needed to be successful - or that it even is moderately important to have wrt to success

base game… according to SteamSpy
