Grim Misadventure #17: Mini-map Update

Will the UI list the attributes of Uniques/Super Uniques/Bosses like in D2?

How is the game performance in comparison to Titan Quest?

TQ for the most part ran pretty well ( > 100FPS) but had various slowdown issues.

Awesome update guys, thank you once again! I am glad you decided to move the map on the right upper corner along with the location name. Its much better like this so… gj!

I wouldn’t worry about the rest of the HUD for now either. I think there is plenty of time until final release to improve the little things about it. I guess we will see how it feels also in alpha which i was happy to see that we’re almost there!

P.S. Everybody is doing the globes… i think GD should stick with the bars.

Very nice look! Love the gold grunge color of the UI. Looks puuuurty  Been thinking about the health bars vs. globes and after seeing this update I think the health/mana bars look okay. I would rather save the screen real estate rather than making sure globes are used and not bars. As someone said earlier the grunge/steampunk look is nicer than I first thought.

Great job…cannot wait for the Alpha!

Please don’t show us the boss before the fight, in an announcement, I don’t want him spoiled. However I do want the text associated with the announcements.

Personally I don’t think the devs should be beholden to anyone about the finicky small issues at this stage… The UI and HUD look absolutely brilliant, very stylistic and intriguing without compromising on too much screen space… Alpha looms and I await it eagerly

This seems to be the aRPG for the upcoming decade. In 10 years ppl will speak of GD as we did of D2.
Rlly can’t wait for alpha. I won’t be playing any other game during the alpha tryout.

Cool, I love the quest tracker too.

One solution to the lopsided UI issue would be to drop the left decoration and move the UI to the left corner. There, it would be a visual balance to the mini map in the upper right.

As an added UI change, I would also change the heath/energy bars to vertical alignment. Now they would look like a steam punk liquid gauge (maybe complete with gas bubbles as the level goes down. I would possible put a rising experience bar there as well.

I suspect all this would need to wait for a mod if the change were made at all but I wanted to throw the concept out since we’re discussing the UI.

The mini-map is much much better up there.

Nits…

Any chance that when the minimap is hidden, the quest tracker can slide up to the top corner? Also any chance that the energy bar will be a little thicker?

I agree that the hud looks a little lopsided. I think that is because the bars are too short, or too long. Something that can eventually be fixed or dealt with.

I think people who prefer globes do so because it is easier to process “fullness” and location when oriented vertically than horizontally. As Zantai points out though, there are downsides due to curvature. That is not due to vertical orientation, but due to the shape. Using cylinders and orienting them vertically solves this.

looks fine to me as long as its nice and clear and understandable it gets a big tick from me. Lets just try it out in alpha and decide then.

How about a video update? Throw me a frikkin bone here.

All shall fear the Bleh. What else :p.

I prefer bars over globes anyway, globes use up more space and are less accurate at either end. I always prefer the minimap in the corner over it being at the bottom, as corners are less important screen real-estate.

So the perfect solution for me (once the lop-sidedness is fixed  )

It’s not the Bleh, but GD’s version of the Gonarch!

Thank for the minimap fix. Now I want the skills on the left side of the screen…:eek::rolleyes:

Having globes or a bar is a trivial argument, that should not come in between adding more to the game. Bars work fine, and are more accurate. I like the look of the HUD, its not symmetrical, and thats what makes it cool. If it blocks your ability to play the game, then you have a very tiny monitor. Love Grim Dawn, and love you guys’ openness with the fans, keep up the good work!

The blurry image of the boss looks like some cave ogre :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally I much prefer the bars over globes, I find that globes take up far more room then is actually nessesary, so I believe that this HUD is fine.
If anything as you have mentioned the mana bar could be moved across to the right hand side to balance it up a bit better.
Having said that though, I believe that people will find that any HUD will work as they get use to it, with a few minor exeptions.

I agree there’s a nice empty space on the right side where the mana bar (green mana heavens save us!) could go. That way the health bar wouldn’t be poking so far upwards on the left. Plus it gives it a nice symmetry instead of “smaller bar stacked underneath a big one.”

Zantai,

thanks for the update. everything you said makes sense to me. the bar or health globe is a low priority for me personally.

Looks good
