Grim Misadventure #183 - Ascension

Epics and Legendaries drop from any source; MI’s are target farmable, so when farming Alkamos at least I know I’ll get either of his guaranteed drops - not to mention it also drops from SR chests (if I’m not mistaken). SR sets drop only in SR and only on Ultimate, and they share loot pool with hundreds or thousands of other drops, so chances of getting that specific piece of the specific set become very slim, even considering how generous SR’s drops are (about 12-15 legendaries per SR65 run). And I’m not exactly complaining either, because I like that there’s something special for doing something special, hence my confusion about getting Ascendant stuff without actually, you know, Ascending anywhere (lvl 40 Normal doesn’t really qualify for that).

Anyway, I’m not gonna bother you anymore with that. Perhaps this concept is just too alien to me, I dunno.

only alkamos has those objects, they can’t do it in SR

Naw, it’s not just you. Others have complained about the SR-only items as well. They should be available elsewhere in the game’s normal loot tables. It’s part of the typical, “Developers cater to the vocal minority, that vocal minority being people who are uberplayers who want everything as difficulty and obtuse as possible.” Grim Dawn, fortunately, has very little of this type of thing (compared to most games nowadays, especially in the same genre), and the above posts from Zantai makes it sound like Ascension isn’t adding more of that. But I wish what’s already there would be reduced.

The target-farmable items from specific in-every-game-mode monsters is a little bit different. (And, no, you trolls, there shouldn’t be SR-specific bosses to drop these SR-specific items. Read with the intent of the idea and not the literal words.)

And let’s not forget there’s the SR-gained skill point. :frowning:

You just need to do shard 25. Any build can do it.

Except SR is dull AF and I’d rather the point actually be part of the campaign instead of trying to pretend like SR is part of the campaign. I’ve only ever bothered to get it on one character because of the hassle.

Then you should be able to craft the waystone for your other characters. It should not take longer than 5-10 minutes each to get the skillpoint for them since you only need to run 4 chunks in a row. And since the chunks are random, I think it would be more dull to play the same campaign map over and over again to get the skillpoints for each char.

I’m pretty sure these updates will make the GD the best ARPG ever, even though it already is!

I have no clue how that complicated waystone system even works. I know I’ve never gotten any or anything.

And no, playing the maps is not boring at all. It’s the joy of the game. Seeing the scenery. Going through the story. Enjoying it again with another character. And another. Never XP boosts. Full clears each time (depending on, but at least trying, each skelekey dungeon at whatever level you happen to get to it for that difficulty and character).

Just pointlessly killing random mixes of monsters in SR, that’s dull.

(I do wish all those transmuter/converter sets and skills turned on in the lower versions. It’s so disappointing that so many builds only start to exist at level 84 and higher and then you spontaneously have to respec into what you wanted the whole time… I don’t do that, I build for the destination, but it often changes a lot once the gear finally turns on.)

It’s a checkpoint system. You can just craft it and run one shard and get your points. If you got it with one char, you already have the waystone.

then you are commenting from ignorance about a part of the game that you do not want to play, and it is precisely because of this lack of knowledge that you make inappropriate requests.

To craft the waystone you need the blueprints first. To get them, you need to do shards because they drop at 5, then 20 or something like that and so on. No need to play ultimate of course, but still you need to run at least one time a lot of shards to get them. Or cheat.

It’s not difficult but it’s very boring if you don’t like SR.

I like the campaign and also a bit of SR sometime, so I enjoyed also this part.

It’s not “from ignorance” that SR is absolutely boring and not something that’s appealing at all and that it’s a PITA that there are campaign rewards and unique items tied to it.

This is why I’m happy that Zantai said Ascension stuff will also be available in normal play (via the altar) rather than gated behind undesirable play modes. (“Games must be as hard as they can make it” people, I swear…)

Dude, things like these are normal in videogames. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t like to get rewarded. More so in ARPGs. And to be fair, grim dawn is pretty forgiving on that matter; you only need to do ONE shard. That’s like 5 minutes of “boring gameplay” for you.

“Oh I’m a casual and I don’t have time bla bla bla bla” Dude, FIVE minutes.

Very exciting news!

I do have one question though, if non-monster infrequent items can be ascended; how it will affect the end game? We all know some of us will GDstash them and use to make more efficient endgame builds, which might require some adjustments on Crucible and SR. Like I can make some ascended Stoneplate Greaves or Intrepid Warboots with 3 rare affixes which also include conversions? Some ideas can contribute to meme builds but some will boost the existing good builds.

Reply me before Z if I misunderstood something.

To be fair:
One time, you have to climb SR60 in order to get the skill point reward, right?
While even easier, maybe that’s what he was referring to by “boring”.

No, shard 25 will give you the skill point. And after you done it with your first char, you only need to do one each to get the point.

No, there are 3 skill points available in SR on Ultimate. One at 5, one at 15 and one at 25. You also get an attribute point at 25.
