Grim Misadventure #35: Epic Power

Love the weapons, and really like the idea of these granted skills.

Would love to get the Black Grimoire to go with my hellhound, just got to lose my rifle first. The belt is quite evil, whoever thought that one up… well done.

Don’t wanna sound too negative, but…

Unless something dramatically needs to change, the max level at release will be 50.

…does this mean we’re only going to level up 25 more times through the next 8 acts (2 on normal, 2x3 on the other difficulties)? That sounds a little tedius, to be honest.

I’m sure they do, and I’m sure they will resist a good portion of the damage, but what of a non-boss that has low vitality resists?

Again, I’m just speculating. We’ll know more how it plays once they release it to us.

I’m not sure I understand this. I’m sure we’ll hit 50 sometime in the 2nd or 3rd act on Normal difficulty. The other 2 difficulties will probably only be there for challenge and farming, not leveling. That’s pretty much how it works in TQ and D3, if I’m not mistaken.

That definitely is not how it works in TQ or D3.

In TQ I do not even hit the max level by the time I am through my third play through (normal / epic / legendary).

In D3 you reach max level sometime during the third playthrough if I am not mistaken.

I can see us reaching a level in the 40s by the end of normal (we are 20 by the end of the first act after all), so we should go higher than 50 in the next two difficulties, if there were no level cap.

very very cool:)

have not seen this asked or noticed

depends on how often these items will drop:)

because for me like the rigid shell component that drops very rarely ?

cool gear though

That’s how I see it, too. Don’t get me wrong, I love the game so far, but I don’t think that the item hunt alone will motivate me enough to play through epic, let alone legendary, if my character hits the level cap in Act 1 epic.

Kinda discouraging to think my char is half done after 1/9th of the game. That’s what I hated in D3 Inferno (last difficulty) - that only items could help me progress - and what I loved in D2 - that I could always go back, level up and increase my skills to become more powerful.

I think you missed the trade-off with the Chains of Torment then, which is that if it procs at the wrong time, then all the OP stats it has before the proc are useless and you’re going to have to run for your life!:smiley:

I also don’t think this is the case, otherwise Salazar would’ve re summoned his Harbinger when you kill his other one. Not to mention other skills like Hooked Net and other’s.

I wonder if enemies could convert a item skill affix to a proc on hit/struck in which the chances of using the skill would be relatively low like 5-10%. Would make for some interesting fights and seeing an enemy coming at you with a Soulthief on HC would make you think twice before engaging in a fight.

facepalm Shows you how long it’s been since I played those games then. lol

I was about to comment on how awesome these new items are, how the new pics look cool…But all I remember and can think of right now is the 50 level cap…Which is lower than what Titan Quest proposed (without the expansion), while all Grim Dawn’s masteries require more points and have more skills.
I just don’t see the interest of dual-classing and trying combos with so few levels: you’ll be barely scratching the surface of the fun. I was really hoping for a level 60 cap, at least. Maybe I’m too much of a ā€œĆœber-Leveling-Upā€ kind of player, but you guys have no idea how underwhelmed I am right now: it’s like a great part of my interest towards Grim Dawn has simply vanished.
I hope I’ll be shown to be wrong thanks to the gameplay, the story, the maps, etc…

Okay, back to topic: the new weapons look great, I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those and run some tests on the local goblins! :stuck_out_tongue:

We have to set an initial level cap somewhere, and I imagine no matter what we choose somebody out there would think it’s too low.

If the end-game proves that a higher level cap is necessary, we can certainly tune it. For now, let’s focus on the range that’s actually playable.

sorry slightly confused. is this level 50 cap the current cap planned for the release of grim dawn with normal, vet, and elite difficulties released? What will the cap be when beta / act 2 is released?

I somehow remembered the level cap to be 75 with the release of the full game, now I’m slightly disappointed.

I have to admit that the afore mentioned level cap is surprising, but I will say that it’s exciting because that would mean each point invested has a lot more worth and weight, which is a good thing. I don’t want the end game to be accessible to every cookie crunching build, I want there to be some fore thought given. I just am worried that the level cap is reduced because of a reduction in content ?? If not then no worries, player level will once again stand for something

The game is capped at 25 and people already seem to know how it will play at 50.

There has not been a reduction in content. We would not be delaying content releases if we were just going to cut content. If anything, the game is already becoming larger than was initially planned.

To those that are concerned over the proposed level cap: what specifically bothers you about that number?

Is it the number of skill points that you are worried will prevent you from creating some ideal build? (In contrast, wouldn’t an excessive amount of skill points actually reduce build variety?)

Or is there concern over reaching level cap too fast and losing motivation to keep playing beyond getting better items?

I think this is actually good for the game, so long as the player level spans out evenly across the game content because there is a certain level of completion that a player feels when max level is reached. Keeping in mind that items serve as a means to reach new levels sooner not as complete build substitutes and once max level is reached my motivation tapers extremely quickly. I guess it comes down to the end game content which as Zantai stated we know little about.

Excuse my iPhone grammar

I have quite a few things I am curious about with a level 50 cap to start, Since over time and whatnot you want to eventually reach a cap of 200.

Will there be all 3 difficulties released with this cap? If so I would think you would hit 50 well before you reach legendary?

Also with level 28 mobs that can be easily steamrolled, is the scale linear for each level the mob increases? I am rather curious how level 50 mobs will be compared to level 28.

One thing for sure is I will enjoy being able to go past 25! I do hope I won’t reach 50 to fast… I hit 25 in 12 hours and 28 minutes.

But yeah biggest thing is how will 50 levels work if all 3 difficulties are released with it IF this is the case? I know so little ^_^;

Max 50 means 150 levels of expansions since the max is what… 200? 250?

Killing everything in the alpha content will probably get you to level 20-21 or so depending on how much you farm previous areas.

Plus it will take longer to level up each level as we get higher in level. In all I think it’s too early to be disappointed with the max level since we don’t have all the content yet.

Come now Zantai, you of all people should know that TheoryDawn is as much (or possibly more) fun than GrimDawn!

Especially since it’s the only way I can spend my evenings after work since all my toons are stuck at level 25 (hint hint wink wink)

Dejnov.
