Grim Misadventure #95: Secrets of the Three

Er…mah…gerd

Wait a minute… this is not already in 1.0.0.2?

My current GD version is GOG6 (1.0.0.2 no Galaxy) which already have this feature… my devotion skills bound to long cooldown skills like Devastation and Canister have 100% to proc. I thought this was a neat balance to offensive procs…

Is this NOT intended in GOG6?

There are Devotion effects that have a 100% chance to proc in the game already.

The key is the “dynamic scaling” that is NOT in the game yet.

“Dynamic Scaling” is definitely in GOG6. I logged over 200 hours after switch to GOG, my Steam GD key has been disabled now so I cannot test there. And I do not use any 3rd party apps or mods.

I was surprised to discover that devo skill proc chances are so high at first, then I experiment a bit to find out that the proc rate is linked to skill cooldown. With the results, I’ve made new builds based on multiple cooldown skills to maximize proc rate of devotion skills. Here is the proof on one of my char:

I suspect this feature was accidentally added in the GOG builds.

Well, glad what made it into GOG mostly works then…

Couple fixes for it heading your way though.

TBH, 34% on a 5 sec CD seems a little ‘meh’ still. Obviously better than 15%, but not what i was expecting. Is this changed at all in the fixes or is that similar to what we should expect?

The formula is a combination of cooldown and skill duration. Because Blackwater keeps dealing damage over time, its chance of activation is already high.

Thanks Zantai for the good news.

Don’t change too much of this new “feature” though. I’m in love with it already (made a build with 5 cooldown skills, procs and procs everywhere)!!!

Word, thanks for the explanation!

holy shit. 100% aetherfire on devastation.

Great news!! Thank u Crate!!

Looking forward to this

Haha, right. Without a CD on the proc that means everything hit will spawn a puddle!

Do you make any fix for on exit crashes?

as long as the cooldown is reflected in the tooltip so we can see what we’re dealing with, it sounds perfect

well as long as the devotion CD is up. don’t think they are changing devotion cooldowns, just chance to proc.

Hmm, those Celestial power proc rates should probably factor in both cooldown AND duration.

Also, kind of related, do the “on Block” and “when Hit” (by enemy) proc rates scale based on the skill they are attached to? For example, will Giant’s Blood have a greater chance to activate when attached to Blooddrinker than when attached to Aether-Ward Aura?

It does…

Yes.

they should factor in the proc cooldown, also. devotion skills without a CD, like aetherfire in the example above, should proc nearly 100% of the time on anything with a CD around 3 sec or longer.

I foresee great confusion.

Agreed…though for the most part, Devotion skills with inordinately long cooldowns are already kind of lackluster because of their inordinately long cooldowns. I don’t see why your example matters, though; if I attach a 5 second cooldown Devotion proc to a 10 second cooldown skill, the five seconds could be anything less than ten seconds and it’d still always be ready when the skill was ready (depending on CDR’s interaction with this). So varying the % chance to trigger with the Devotion skill’s cooldown is only detrimental for all Devotion skills attached to a skill whose cooldown is longer than that of the Devotion skill.

At the same time I see reason to design some constellations to scale better with certain types of skills than others. For example one proc could be designed to scale better with no cooldown, spammable skills. And another could be designed for long cooldown spells, and another for long cooldown long duration skills etc.

While I like the idea of most of them generally scaling to some extent for all skills, I also like the idea that certain constellations fit better on certain types of skills. i.e. you pointed out a constellation that lasts 5 seconds on a 10 second cooldown spell, will be up 100% of the time but also not used to it’s full potential. I think this is okay, but tweaks are needed.
