I’m not sure it makes sense for it to be stored in the storehouse. It’s an agricultural product used to feed animals, shouldn’t it be stored near them or in its own shed? I guess we can just build storehouses next to our barns, although mine are usually near the middle of town. What are other people doing with their hay?
I put a storehouse next to the area I have for my animals and make it only accept hay. The herders then move it into the barns as/when needed.
Barns should be able to store hay
Both cow and goatee barns have silos on their models
I have done this now too.
It’s been a while since I played and this is my first time since hay was introduced so I’m still figuring out how it works. I can see that barns do stock some hay for their immediate needs, but the majority of it has to be stored somewhere else.
And then you have to go around an uncheck all the hay storage areas, because these will store hay before the one next your barn. Current game, I’m growing the hay in the fields where my animals are.
Well, I do that every time I build one. Turn off flour, grain and hay once the building is complete. So when I do put up a storehouse for the hay it’s easy to set it for just that.
Edit: Thing with growing hay in the grazing area is that you need farmers to plant and harvest it. I’d rather put down clover in there so no farmers needed once the field is prepared and it also helps keep the fertility up.
Growing clover too, it all depends on the soil. Speaking of which, is there some way to determine what is the best crop to sow when setting the field size? I have to wait until I get to planting and then I go through various crops in the list before settling on the one which needs the least soil alteration (sand/clay), I’d like to select a plant (e.g. grain) and have an area highlighted to show that this is the best place for it.
