I have a distant work camp. It’s right next to a temporary shelter big enough for all 4 of them. It contains food. I am watching them. They chop one tree down then spend a month going home to stock their house with food. They chop one felled tree into logs then go shelter stocking again. Now given that probably all the people who live in the house are working elsewhere and using the food in the temportary shelters why does the home run out of things so often? Please can we have the option to decree that each home must have a stay-at-home parent or homemaker whose role it is to keep the house ticking over? In spite of cutting the labour force by one quarter I still think it would produce more nett efficiency
Yes. All this shelter stocking and drinking beer and being idle for no reason is pissing me off. I also want to be able to tell people where to live so they don’t have to cross the whole map to get a sandwich.
+1 to this.
I noticed the same on mine. To mitigate I added a [forager]+[well] next to the [work camp]+[temp shelter] as well. So the forager can supply enough food from what I could tell. No meat though obviously unless I also added a hunter. And then at that point, why not add a food cellar. And since I’m growing, a stock yard…and you see what I am getting at? lol
It may as well be a second settlement at this point to keep them semi-efficient.
same issue. and we’re more than a month on from the first post here…on my entire map I only have one Sand mine (no sand to be found anywhere else) and this one is at the opposite side of my map. by the time they get there, they turn back and do some Shelter Stocking…infuriating.
and same thing with “seeking food”…a villager might leave on a season-long treck to do a task, and 3/4 of the way there, he/she turns around and goes all the way back to “seek food” !!! why not go for a nearby berry or nut or greens…and if it’s winter, take a sandwich with you fhs…
" Horrendously inefficient" - yup, that’s the game AI in a nutshell
You might like to try this mod that searches through all current workers and reassigns them to jobs closer to their homes.

Try making sure that no raw goods are finding their way into the Shelter Stocking stream.
Raw meat, fish and milk spoil quickly.
For me this means setting up certain Root Cellars for only raw goods near the Smokehouses and Cheesemaker, and the rest of all storage does not accept raw goods.
I put this on the far side of the other Root Cellars, away from the housing and work areas, so that when everyone goes looking for food, or to stock their shelters, most of the time they will find processed, long shelf-life foods to use before they get to the raw goods, which cuts down on the number of trips they make.
