I don’t know the team behind these games are obviously bigger maybe, but Crate has had a lot of time and pushed back every possible update for a very… very… long time. Mind you we knew since 2024 and even rumors before that about FoA expansion.
I just feel bad that the game is in just a state that other companies and games are light years ahead of GD now. Even with this next update we will be so far behind TQ2(they have so much nice QoL already and much more coming), and look at the D2 news, man… I am so sad, GD is my favorite ARPG by far but what is going on why is Grim Dawn lagging so far behind!!! Anyone know why ? Its been years since we wanted these QoL stash tabs and orbs and just…
Are we going to get hit with another delay?..
Will we ever get a library for all our collected items? I mean just looking at the trailer as someone who has played d2 maybe a few times for a few hours, it looks amazing compared to GD.
I figure the reason so many people aren’t calling out this falsehood is because the game doesn’t mandate they make a crate account in order to launch the game.
Of course if that were mandatory and we had all those people on the forums GD wouldn’t be uniquely advantaged in offering full offline functionality.
I think Crate is in absolute deadlock about what to do regarding Cyclone’s armor issue?
All jokes aside, sure it’s been a while. You can even have a negative opinion about it being too long. That’s your right. Sure doesn’t make it a fact nor is it some sort of proof about a pattern - which clearly doesn’t exist.
What other companies do or the content they put out shouldn’t influence GD. Last Epoch did this and paid for it IMO.
More than anything the PTR was a reflection of what I want most. A great game that is stable by a company not out to rush something in order to make the $$.
There’s this company that’s been making the biggest game on the market. And the game doesn’t have axes or swords 1 year and 3 months into the development, and counting.
TQ2 came out 19 years after TQ. D2 has had a new class 25 years after release. Diablo 4 doesn’t have Diablo in it for 2.5 years and counting.
You can say FoA development is slow on a personal based metric. But the standards of the genre are on the floor, let’s not kid ourselves.
I think it was a good try for all of you to use the “last game in the saga trick” because GD only has one game… but that wont fly with someone who is above the IQ of 3… You are making a comparitive arguement based on release dates of a game. Which if you really want to look at it like that, they have released many games way more then create in the ARPG genre, and I mean going down that road would actually make create look worse. But I don’t really want to do that. What I really want to know is, why did these changes take years and years, when PoE and many other games had them A LONG time ago, and even games that were abandoned have these features now that they are resurrected. Plus all the other features we will still not have in 1.3, I mean I honestly just feel like this game is really far behind. Not trying to do a comparitive of release dates (as it was annouced too soon as you guys have pointed out), the real resolution for me is more so how many more years do we wait for a QoL that poe had 10 years ago. That to me is more realistic and true than the DLC, which I am not upset about, just mindful that it has been a while and I give respect to the DLC delay itself. Again, 1.4 in 3 years with features released in D2 today? I think you all kinda just JUMPED the gun to defend Create, and yes they deserve white knights I guess, and I love GD. But you aren’t seeing the timeline or perspective outside of the game IMO.
You mentioned that “I don’t know the team behind these games are obviously bigger maybe”.
Crate is a independent developer with much less employees and budget than companies like Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games.
Also, Grim Dawn is not a Live Service game, meaning that there isn’t any obligation to deliver content in a certain cadence. Just take a look at Last Epoch trying to go for the Live Service route and everything that has happened since.
So, no, I don’t think that Grim Dawn and/or Crate is far behind. They’re literally doing what they’ve done for all these years: develop content for their game in a pace that fits their work pipeline and that prioritizes stability and polish instead of rushed cicles.
Small edit: And there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Diablo and Path of Exile are live-service games and can be successful doing it. Grim Dawn isn’t a live service game and can be successful doing it. Just because one company does it in a particular way, doesn’t mean that all games in the same genre should follow the same path.
Why Grim Dawn should be on par or the same in terms of features like other Arpgs in a first place . Every now and than a PoE player come here with the idea to turn Grim Dawn into Path of Grim Dawn . This game has its own identity and was mentioned several times already
Why do you think the game needs features from other games? Let GD be its own self and not a mishmash of things from other games. TQ2 is already doing that and quite a few players don’t like the result.
You’re also comparing games that have dozens if not over a hundred people working on them. GD has had a max of 11; yes 11 and that number is for the new expansion. Iirc the largest number before that was 9.
Try by a factor of 10-100x. Grim Dawn was/is made by 2-12 people over the span of its development.
I don’t know how to put this…developing features isn’t free?
After Forgotten Gods, the game was effectively in maintenance mode. Only with its revival for Fangs of Asterkarn has active development resumed and feature work started up again. Frankly, the amount of QOL we put in over the last 3 years for absolutely free when you have Diablo 2 charging $25 for an overhauled stash hurts a little bit to think about.
And what we get in return for it is “what took you so long?”
I can’t wait for this expansion to release so everyone can complain about what’s not in it
What QoL things are you talking about exactly? Don’t take this the wrong way but you’ve said a lot while also not saying anything substantive at all…
How are they light years ahead of GD/Crate now?
How will GD/Crate be so far behind? What QoL features are coming to TQ2 you feel are imperative to GD?
What features do these games now have?
Such as?
How so?
Again, what features are you referring to here?
As someone who hasn’t played either TQ2 nor PoE, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m all for GD being as modern and QoL filled as possible but as others have said; The team working on the game is small compared to these much larger companies, Crate are not live service/solely focused on arpgs like the other large companies are and forgotten gods was originally going to be the last expansion so there was no feature work being done for years. I think you need to specify exactly what it is that GD is lacking so I can agree or disagree with you.
