How did GD's forum become so friendly in the first place?

I’m posting this here because the description reads, ‘Tell us about your experience etc. etc.’

But yeah. What was the special ingredient which allowed GD to avoid becoming the toxic mess most other game forums are?

Probably because Grim Dawn is a small single player game

We are considered a small community?

I wrote that the game is small, it has a small player base

And yes this forum is pretty small I would say

1.Because back even before kickstarter began, players were here out of love for TQ and felt the love of growing a promising game alongside the Devs in a time when the need for a good RPG was really felt.

  1. Because of good relations with the devs, making players feel more involved with the game in general.

  2. Because of the people in point 1. bad apples thend to be quickly expelled after attempting reason. They are the immune system of the forum. That and vigilent/patient moderators.

spanks, I think a fair amount of it came from the old titanquest.net forum members who migrated here when we heard of Medierra’s new project. It was always a friendly and welcoming place - if not for the help and advice I got there I probably would have given up on TQIT and never even tried GD later. Medierra encouraged that attitude here and I guess we’ve all just built on it since. Medierra even laid it out in the forum guidelines.

“Our goal is to create an enjoyable community for everyone where people can learn about Grim Dawn and participate in the development of the game through their suggestions and constructive feedback.”

Have you ever read my posts? I think you haven’t, lmao!

I am not even friendly, tbh. Well maybe sometimes, the same sometimes as a shiny pokemon’s spawn. :]

I am actually kinda angry right now and considering to not be friendly anymore because there are currently so many people suggesting for a nerf fiesta because they tried an end game build that has been designed with much thinking and testing and experience, then they think, “oh, this build kinda nice, let’s nerf it!”

Phew, that maybe the longest sentence I wrote in this forum.

So are you going to act like a…ghoul?

Edit: If it can’t be inferred, I just wanted to say I was just teasing you mate. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t worry spanks. I still love you <3

Plus the early moderators helped to set the right tone as well. yerkyerk, jiaco and Father Squid.

Threads that get out of hand are immediately closed. Strong hand. Not that I personally like it but I think this is the reason for the op statement.

So what happened to yerkyerk? I just missed him it seems… his last posts were just before the time in which I joined in 2013. It also seems he no longer has mod status… meaning he possibly rescinded the status? Father Squid still has mod status but you never seen anything from him either.

Edit: And crazily enough… that thread could still be necroed  It’s still open! I thought old threads tended to get auto-locked after a certain period these days. Maybe because it was opened by medierra I suppose.

Not always. They are quicker to do so these days tho but when I first joined some threads could go on for a bit before they got shutdown. They’ve learned to cut 'em off quick if it becomes clear it’s leaning too hard in a bad direction. I might or might not have had at least some small part in that becoming the order of operations. I don’t really push the limits much anymore tho. Must be getting old.

Mostly, I just read threads nowadays and exercise restraint. Maybe help out once in a while with tech issue posts.

Real life as usual for both.

Most of the old threads are still open. Mods/Admin have to close them as far as I know, no auto-locking.

Interesting. Has anyone ever been banned from the forum?

Oh yes, plenty. Including the one quoted in your signature.

Also have to remember that the forum existed before the game. Forum was started in 2010 while the Kickstarter didn’t happen until 2012 and first chance to actually play GD was in 2013. Not sure how rare that is in the gaming world. So yeah, early days it was Medierra posting screenshots and sometimes asking for input about something, but forum certainly wasn’t laid out like it is now back then.

Huh. Is the number of players who’ve gotten banned > than those who are active contributors?

P.S: I know this information is basically irrelevant, I’m just curious.

I can remember a few guys.

brucesx - the one who always complains about shielded cadence being OP. Dunno if that’s the reason why he was banned.

Bitchachos - that guy who’d always hype his builds to be one of the best then you see his videos and you’ll find 4buff/4banner runs on DA meta cruci which is just plain impossible when playing legit. I actually forgot what the other issues with him but I remember Chthon PMing several members (pretty sure you were included, spanks) about how annoying he was and what to do about him. I think it was about misleading facts. He’s got a new account now named The Grim Creeper who basically just lurks here and posts occasionally, including bumping his old builds on the banned account. BTW The Grim Creeper always denies association with the banned Bitchachos account.

Tycho - didn’t know much about the guy but iirc he pissed Zantai off on the vent/help thread (which I don’t read often). Didn’t know why but he was the reason why there’s a vent/help thread II.

I’m surprised fact guy is still around, tho honestly it’s fun when his threads show up. It’s one of the few times where you can be a dick but it’s justified.
