Probably spanks, but a) you’d need to define active users and b) remember that banned bots/spammers also count. There’ll be a lot of those in the banned users list.
the old “misadventures”, before they became misadventures. Where Med posted lengthy stuff and asked for input. When the scope of the game was only 1 or 2 acts and nothing more. 
Back in the days it was more common. Even with Diablo 3 we registered on old fansites and such years before there was a playable beta. Simply because we still trusted in the brand of a company that they would deliver quality. And “soon” as their trademark for release date. Releasing when the product was done and not sooner. These days everything has become such a shit show studio’s rather hold everything close to the chest for as long as possible. And even when you compare marketing material 3 months before actual release. You’ll notice that a lot of stuff just isn’t in the released product.
No idea how this forum became “nice”. In Ye olden days we had civil lengthy discussions. But over time we garnered our rotten apples. Especially during times of a new big patch/xpack release when lots of gamers come back. With their dull repetitive questions that have been answered a 100 times over. People who claim Dumb Question’s don’t exist have no clue what they’re talking about. Also I sure as hell aren’t one of the “nice” people, because that’s not who I am to begin with. Takes a hell of a lot of effort not telling people to simply fuck off whenever they suggest some bullshit or are too lazy to look it up themselves.
Then again. A lot of people are on Grim Dawn’s unofficial discord. Having most indepth discussions there instead of here on the forums. So this place is quite calm in activity overall.
It is a nice place cause it’s stuffed with awesome people like me.
Yeah I still enjoy reading the early Announcements and Developments stuff.
I think the key word you used was “civil” and of course we still have those discussions a lot of the time.
As for indepth discussions on the discord I’d say the opposite. Quickfire questions with short answers. Heck I get ribbed for my “wall of text” replies a lot of the time. 
If you want considered, in depth replies then the forum is the place to have them for me. Plus it keeps all the replies on the subject together and not interspersed with other irrelevant stuff which happens in the continuous thread of discord. And at least here if we do drift off topic those replies can be cut out and made into a separate thread which can’t be done on discord.

Is there a certain amount of consensus which the mods must first come to before hitting someone with the ban-slam?
We use the forum guidelines as a reference for what’s acceptable or not then will take appropriate action if needed, be it just a friendly word, a warning or a ban.
I kinda dont like the too much peaceful and controlled atmosphere here. If only there is a way to lower mod powers and control them especially that ever active medea

lol medea is way more active than eis and jiaco were even when they were active (prolly why they relented and modded her since they were winding down with involvement). That’s probably why I could get away with so much shit as long as I did. They’d swoop in after awhile and posts would disappear or threads would be locked if Zantai didn’t get to it first.
I laugh now when I think about it, I laugh even more about this thread title in conjunction with thinking about it. I was a mf’er those first years. Talk of bans… it is a living, walking miracle I wasn’t banned. I probably skirted it because most my trouble making was going off on GD hater types. Maybe they felt reluctant to ban someone who was so obviously pro-GD all the way.
I know ol’ Zantai’s thought of it more than once tho

Gotten better, by far, imo anyway. 'Course, maybe medea has a different opinion since she has to do all the house-cleaning and probably sees more than I do of all that. I ignore alot of threads these days.
Well, you’ll get your chance soon. I go on holiday on Saturday for 3 weeks so you can get yourselves into all sorts of trouble with jiaco, eis and Zantai. Of course if you rile any of them you do so at your own risk. Can’t think you’d be fond of getting banned from the forum just when you’re going to be able to make that long desired holy Paladin.
Oh? So they are both still “active”? I hardly even check the Who’s Online box much anymore. jiaco maybe says something in Playtest once in a while but I haven’t seen a peep from eis in awhile I think.
The forum is a fabby place full of quality information from super helpful people.
But most of all I’m here for the hugs (giving and receiving)!

I joined far too late to know why this place became what it is, but I can say that in my time on the internet and in gaming forums since like the first b.net forum for D1, I’ve never seen a less toxic forum. Gaming forums are awful as a rule, it reflects well on everyone here that this isn’t.
The community is relatively small compared to the big toxic communities you’re probably thinking of.
That said, we have a low tolerance for asshattery here. Behave or find another website to frequent.
