How MI drops change affect levelling

I am talking about this change in regard of MI drops:

While levelling a new character, I have noticed that the vast majority of MIs that drop will be unusable for the next few levels, this amount increases with player’s level and difficulty. As a consequence, it becomes impossible to quickly upgrade your gear at some point unless you plan your item drops in advance.

Most common enemy MI drops require a higher level than your current.
All boss MI drops require a higher level than your current. Nemesis MI drops can be two level requirement tiers higher then you (killing a nemesis at level 80 yields a drop with level requirement of 94).
Going down to elite difficulty has no effect on the drops either. Barrog’s Arms I have farmed on elite still require a higher level than my current character’s.

In my opinion, this change should only apply from level 94 onward so that it has no effect on the levelling process. It can be frustrating to not have a way to upgrade your gear for longer stretches of time.

ngl, getting the lvl 20 viloth ring/unable to use it for like, 8-9? levels felt weird  - and i know rng is?(was) a thing, but legit forgot about this part of the update, so was just puzzled sitting there with 3x lvl 20 rings in a row

if this is then the expected trend throughout, i don’t think it’s so good for levelling. Might even make me question the change/if there isn’t a better solution, only having it apply at lvl 90+ sounds good, if not then perhaps ditching the system and manually tweaking the boss levels/loot tables for the outlier offenders (mogara/bee queen etc)

I was under the impression this only applied for 94+. I don’t think it should work this way for leveling.

I’m not opposed to having this apply only at levels 94+, but is the above a bad thing? How often do you want to be upgrading your gear? Historically it hasn’t been uncommon to stick with an item for 10-20 levels.

And with how quickly we level in GD I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to wait. Getting that nice weapon or item lined up ready and waiting for you to use it makes for a nice juicy carrot on a stick!

If anything it was frustrating to try and get a good affix combo for a leveling MI only for it to drop at a lower level… :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

That was really frustrating when the item you want is right at the level for getting the higher modifiers and then you get the lesser version you already had.

issue is you can’t use the item you try to upgrade, on the char farming it/levelling
you go kill dreeg; wait 15 levels or “twink”, so you have nothing for 10-20 levels now, so you need to use something else in between, but you can’t get any MIs inbetween - rinse repeat every time

I really can’t say I see the issue here.

“item replacement missing”/you can’t get the slots you could before when you need them let alone when you could get them before

Same. Just by having the MI with the modifiers is a huge upgrade versus regular equipment.

Sometimes my character goes 20-30 levels with no upgrades just because nothing drops or I’m leveling too fast for it to really matter.

Again, I do not see that as a problem.

By virtue of farming, you’ll be gaining experience toward unlocking the ability to equip the higher level variants you’re acquiring.

Isn’t this level disparity exactly the same as playing a character from level 1 where the magic MI isn’t available until Ugdenbog or similar? Thousands of people have played thousands and thousands of characters with those constraints and have managed okay…

i don’t see how this is hard to follow
i need X stat/item, i go try get it; it’s now impossible to get/i can’t get that stat item for another 10-20 level, i have to go do other crap in the meantime or not do X because i’ve no way to replace XY slot now

every slot is effectively gated off into the future, so you can’t get stuff when you want or more importantly potentially need
need chaos res and XY medal to plug it? - tough luck go sit in the couch and wait until you grow older

it’s artificially been postpone bloated, and was exactly a thing that was already complained about for levelling prior…

It’s not hard to follow, I am telling you that what you are saying is a problem is not a problem in my eyes.

“sucks to not be able to get stuff”

“sucks to not get stuff you could get/that exists”

“sucks to constantly get stuff you’re not allowed to use”
^in particular sucks because it’s now artificial/manufactured for something that was specifically only an endgame concern while specifically already a gripe that existed for levelling  “it’s the opposite of what was asked”

it’s basically expanding the epic/legend lvl complaint (partial MI table rng) to all MIs, while being ensured now

Sure I guess, but that is a matter of opinion.

I enjoy having stuff to work toward. So getting an awesome item that I can’t use for 7 levels is a great motivator to keep playing until I get those levels under my belt.

you can already do that, that’s the rng part, if you want something to work towards you could refarm that boss if you didnt’ accident the 50/50 drop (or 33 in some cases)

but for some players to “have something to look forward to”; the rest are new forced to never get something to use when it drop. (which is the complaint that already existed in particular with epics/legends dropping ahead, but now guaranteed for MIs)

it sucks to always being behind, but more so being universally forced into it then/now - epics/legends and existing MI rng already served that exact use case

So you’re saying you preferred having layered RNG?

Then may your triple rares be ilevel 84 and your ilevel94 affixes forever be mismatched.

i’m saying i prefer it during levelling
it’s only an issue at lvl 90+ because the weird loot table/boss level structuring that exists (eg mogara vs gollus)

So either keep this new system solely for endgame levels where the fix was desired/asked for, or fix the boss lvl/loot table discrepancy manually for 90+, if the new system forces never being able to use direct drops until later/turns MIs into the 100% future category for entirety of levelling as “collateral”.

“Future drops” during levelling is the exact opposite of what some have already complained about prior  contra under rolling at max level
i don’t see any need or reason to change or make the former worse/borked to “fix” the latter

Harsh but fair.

Agreed. It’s fine if it’s a few levels, but having to save up various bits of equipment for 15+ levels later in case they may fit the resists you want to cover at that point sucks.

It means if you want to use them potentially later you have to keep all that stuff around, and there’s a lot of stuff. Good example is the fleshwarped platemail. You often find quite a few of those and they can have good resists, but you never know where the gaps are in 15+ levels, so… do you keep them around and then sift through the many items you found or do you just sell everything and hope you find something useful later? (Which is somewhat impossible with this new change from what I can tell.) I know I don’t have the patience to keep everything around and inspect it all another day when I reach that higher level
