Idea: Mortar Trap replaced with a Cannon

I really like the demolitionist class and explosions. There is a note in Fort Ikkon from aetherials shocked at humans’ explosives and a quest from the Black Legion to retrieve a cannon.

From a gameplay perspective, I think a cannon like in the image would also be a better fit:

Mortars are supposed to do huge damage at very long range but to be very difficult to accurately hit. In this game it wouldn’t work and their range is already quite high, but the damage and rate of fire besides the big one don’t really function great.

A cannon would be a direct hit, look cooler, and be more reliable as a primary source of damage. The projectile would have higher speed, with maybe a longer cooldown between shots but with higher damage.

Don’t get me wrong though, I like the mortar trap a lot, but I think I’d like a cannon even more.

It’s a bad idea but it’s because of the way the game’s pathing system works.

During the game’s alpha period Mortar trap lobbed mortar’s at enemies similar to a Tennis ball. The problem was if there was a tree, a cave or any other object in the way of it’s line of site it would stop the projectile.

It was specially frustrating with the Steps of Torment as enemies would pop up in the adjacent room and Mortar Trap would repeatedly fire at a wall trying to get to them.

It is for this main reason that the devs made the right choice by having it rain down destruction rather than firing at things adjacent to it.
