Congratulations on the early access launch! It’s a beautiful game with loads of potential.
Fist off, let me say I love games in the genera of Farthest Frontier such as SimCity, Factorio, RimWorld, Frostpunk, etc. So finding myself a little board with Farthest Frontier is surprising.
Micro-management & Progress though Automation
Something that’s not fully fleshed out in FF is a sense of progress through automation and efficiency. Take for example wood cutters and foragers, these things need frequent adjustment to their gathering areas as resources are depleted. This is fine in the beginning of game and even expected. I want to feel the struggle of doing things inefficiently, especially as my population grows and the inefficiencies are exacerbated. But, I need there to be more ways to invest/plan for scaling my populating and then be rewarded when done correctly or punished when over-investing too early.
In a way, Farms do this because of their huge labor cost to build and storage requirements to avoid spoilage. For example if I build out too much farm land early my laborers are occupied and I my struggle to procure enough lumber for firewood. I want more and deeper mechanisms like this in the game.
Firewood
So firewood is a pain in the ass all game and as my population grows I’m forced to slash down all the beautiful trees in a massive area around my town. It’s a frustrating and slightly boring problem, unlike say raiders or diversifying food. I need some ways to address this problem, perhaps charcoal fireplaces or insulation in homes.
Different Avenues of Problem Solving
Building on the firewood section, I’d like to have a bit more agency in how I solve problems in the game. For example, maybe a way to have my town focus heavily on tech so I can do more with less. Or perhaps a diplomatic avenue where I can focus on trading and building those relationships for deeper discounts and more advanced economic tools like fulfilling trade requests for say 100 pottery due in 1.5 years time.
Thanks for reading, I hope my feedback is valuable. I look forward to the future of this game and can’t wait to see how it develops.
