This is the second one thread i have wrote about this theme. Last one was a year ago…
I Make the question in the thread tittle because, i until can´t belive how much tedious, and slow, is to move in the grim dawn world, with the rutinary movement speed aumented arround 100% !!. I have spent today, more than 1 hour, just making 5 or 6 contracts for the Black Legion!! Desperating… And all of this turn into an indignation stuff, when i see that, the only one speed movement improving potion in the game, YES, THE ONLY ONE; give to me 30% improvement (what i think is ok), for just 30 seconds!! And for craft 1 of this joking potions, i need to spend an a unique component!!!
Sorry about my actitude, Crate Entertainment. I enjoy so much with your beauty game, but… Don´t you really think for once time, to introduce some changes about this issue?? I mean… You have a good options on board:
Improve the % movement speed on on boots and equip.
Increase the seconds duration in the speed movement potions, from 30 secs to 450, or 900 for example.
And, 3. And this is the point i seriously recommend: Change the mechanic of the movement skills, like, Shadow Strike, or Brutal Charge, making them not being able to click just on enemys, if not, in any place you like to move across those vast maps faster.
Thanks for reading people. And Crate. This is going for you: Please, improve this wonderful game in a way that, all of we, will can enjoy it easylier, and funny.
Not sure why you need to use potions to boost your movement speed, it shouldn’t be hard to cap or come close to capping considering the maximum is 135%.
Off the top of my head, Nightblade/Demolitionist have access to Pneumatic Burst/Vindictive Flame respectively which are both popular. Soldiers have Oleron’s Rage which you may or may not use depending on your build.
There are other sources such as Sailor’s Guide/Eel having a bit and some components such as the Mark of Traveler/Mogdrogen adding a bit too, then there’s actual equipment but i don’t know that as well to suggest big amounts.
Increase the seconds duration in the speed movement potions, from 30 secs to 450, or 900 for example.
I want to say a mod already does this. I think Cornucopia extends consumables and by quite a bit too?
And, 3. And this is the point i seriously recommend: Change the mechanic of the movement skills, like, Shadow Strike, or Brutal Charge, making them not being able to click just on enemys, if not, in any place you like to move across those vast maps faster.
This has been brought up and debated several times. There are people who are for for it and people who are against it, there is no way to please everyone on this matter.
Budy, In first time, please read clearly what im saying in my post, before writing an answer:
About the speed movement potions, i just was talking about increasing the duration of the effect. (That a positive point.)
In other point, about increasing speed buff into the items equip, i judge that as a positive point too.
And no more to say about the movements skills. (If you are not agree, or you defend the game as is, just say it, or save effort in writing…)
In the second time, i really don´t need that you teach me, about how to increase my movement speed in the game. I am tired of do everything that you are trying to object.
And in the third time. In the same way, of the last time i wrote about this, i just see objections. But i don´t see agreement. Love this game doesn´t mean defend it at any cost. If the game can be better. Should be better.
Sorry, but, nothing else to add about. I would be happy to see any positive suggestion.
I’m just saying, if i wanted to focus on movement speed for a character, it’s not terribly hard to do. Not to the point that more items need more movement speed anyway.
I was also just suggesting ways to improve your movement speed so you wouldn’t have to craft and rely on potions which your first post indicates you are doing.
I also really like this game and want to see it change for the better but i don’t think more movement speed is a pressing matter or one that a lot of people would prioritise over other issues.
If you see disagreement, one could deduce that not everyone considers this an improvement rather than assuming that everyone agrees it is an improvement and that whoever replies otherwise is for no good reason defending the game - but clearly that is not how you choose to see things…
Movement speed in Grim Dawn is one of the few mechanics that really suck if we compare it to the king of all arpg’s Diablo 2. I agree with op on this one. And because OP’s English is like movement speed mechanics in Grim Dawn - it sucks balls, I will give my breakdown of what’s so bad about it:
Hard cap at 135% is a joke. At 135% character movement just stops feeling painfuly slow and starts feeling normal. But you can’t never call 135% movement speed fast.
Getting to hard cap is really dificult for some classes (because they lack skills/gear/devotions neccessary). So they are bound to be forever slow however powerful they may be
Slow mechanics can be really frustrating. It’s already hard enough to cap movement speed and get decent slow resistance (that never goes over 80 for some ridiculous reason) and yet you can’t evade those silly skeleton curses. I would understand if some hard hitting fast moving bosses would have slow cc, but why skellies? They are harmless to any decked out character, their slow curse just add a lot of frustration and 0 challenge/dificulty.
No teleport mechanics. This one is just mind-boggling. Why?? Surely, few classes can use riftstone/shadowstrike/blitz, but what about everyone else? Why can’t we have teleportation that is not bound to enemies?
Anyways, it would be nice if Crate does something about it. Because it looks like game engine allows higher movement speed and teleportation, yet game itself lacks it severly.
Totally agree with you patner. Get the 135% cap movement speed in Grim Dawn, is totally a hard job for many classes. And neither, we can´t… WE CAN´T!! talk about a 135% cap speed, like a fast speed or something like that. It just would be normal speed.
Great idea!! Unfortunatelly, PoE is based on a harmful philosofy of speculation market of people, competing for get the best items. A philosofy which GD is totally free. To say nothing of PoE team (Grinding Gear Games), gets gains from an abusive microtransaction shop. Another bad thing, which GD is totally free.
seeing how speed is part of the decision medierra made in relation to the combat experience. no it won’t change and it shouldn’t change since it would have dramatic impact on the entire game experience.
I agree that character movement can be really tedious in GD. It’s one of the game’s biggest flaws, in my opinion. I suppose that engine limitations made movement skills a hassle - we only have one type of movement skill (SS, Chaos Strike and Blitz all fundamentally work the same).
Ideally there would be a bunch of other types of movement skills available throughout the classes and with items (dashes, teleports, and what have you). Not only do such skills make traveling faster, it also makes combat potentially more fast paced and active - more fun.
Seeing as we don’t have this variety of movement skills, our base movement speed is highlighted further and, by many, deemed lacking. I agree that it feels sluggish, and don’t really see why it couldn’t be a little faster. Something like the current 110% movement speed as a base while increasing the cap to 140% doesn’t sound game breaking in my eyes.
Slightly off topic, but looking at Lost Ark’s gameplay I’m sure that’s the future in these types of games; character movement in conjunction with skills, different types of target vectors and channeling to differentiate skills more - GD’s engine is severely limited in terms of how skills can behave.
I just did 5 bounties in 15 minutes for the Black Legion and my current character only has 123% movement speed currently. Does your character have 10% movement speed somehow?
While I love the look of combat in LA, the movement speed is drastically slower than GD (just watch your video). They have some dodge/mini-teleport skills but thats about it. The only time they move fast is when interacting with mobs.
Agreed, the movement speed in LA is frustratingly slow as well. I was mainly thinking about the combat, like you say. They are doing some things that haven’t really been seen to that extent before in these types of games. The combat looks a lot more varied and fast paced than GD, D3 and PoE. The dodges, teleports and other kinds of movement skills can potentially increase the skill ceiling of the game, which I’m kind of missing in GD. GD is my favourite game, but when you’re familiar with the game it can, at times, feel like a giant gearcheck without very exciting combat.
A better example when talking about movement out of combat would maybe be D3, where all classes have access to a movement skill of some kind. It’s one of the few things I miss from D3 when I play GD.
