Ladies and gentlemen, I present to, the long awaited… wait, well, I guess technically you’re still waiting for it but here your chance to check out the Kickstarter project give us feedback before we launch it. It was a TON of work but, hopefully it will be worthwhile. I hope you all like it.
It is basically ready to go, I think, but I wanted to get your approval before I submit it. Once submitted, it will apparently take 1-3 days for Kickstarter to review and approve it before it goes live.
So anyway, let us know what you think. Unless something is horribly wrong, I’d like to try to submit it tonight so that it will hit early / middle of next week. Apparently we can still make minor tweaks once KS approves it but before we finally make it live.
Edit: The original preview link was taken down. See Kickstarter Preview II! for the current link. /edit
We will be releasing information soon about how the upgrade process will work for existing key-holders who want to also pledge on KS. Please save those questions for a later thread.
For the $450 pledge I don’t think you need to explain what the crate story is again. Delete the explanation in the parenthesis and just say refer to the previous pledges. As it is right now it is kind of redundant. Waiting for the video to load, so I will comment on that once it does. (And I might make another huge edit to my previous thread where I stated my thoughts on the other videos you have posted.)
Cool commentaries video! Sorry for couldn’t make comment nowadays. Have been busy with works but I’m still actively checking out for update about the game system. 2 years long I’ve been proud stalking medierra!
Massively stylish George Washington style powdered wig in-game accessory
Kind of alternative haircut or only an item?
On your site you sell the normal edition for 19.85$, but at 18$ on kickstarter plus an exclusive “service medal”. So maybe you should give another bonus for those who bought on your site.
For the pledges, I find the 1000$ to be “overpowered” compared to the previous one because of to the ratio game copy/pledge.
Limited edition Grim Dawn T-shirt only available for backers + Grim Dawn poster suitable for framing
Will you post a picture/plan T-shirt before or during the kickstarter project? Because I only wear red shirts.
(Please add $10 for shipping outside the US)
Canada too?
120$ : Special edition boxed
150$ : Deluxe edition boxed
>200$ Everything from the previous rewards
What is the difference between Special and Deluxe?
Will >200$ get both or only the best one?
The things missing from the page (that could be added in the FAQ):
-Length of the game
-Possibility of Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, etc port
-Translation
-Modding tools/support
-Universe of the game
-Distributor, your site only, possibility of STEAM, Desura…
-What for early costumers (discounts or refund?)
-Maybe also integrate some small images, screenshots or concept arts, because the page is a huge block of text someplace.
Also don’t forget you may have to sign 1785 books, so buy lot of pen and Ibuprofen.
For me the Video is OK. Well explained, not dull and short enough.
$120 for a boxed copy, which is what I would want, seems like a lot. I threw in $50 for the Wasteland 2 KS and it’s coming with a boxed copy + cloth map.
The whole message seems very well communicated and is without any marketing industry feel.
The only thing that struck me was the word, sandbox, in the (movie) picture. It seems unnecessary, or distracting somehow. I cant say if it should be removed or not. Open world ARPG seems slick and quicker but is that good here. The Open/sandbox feature/game-quality is adequately explained in the description. The picture is one of the first visuals – that’s the extent of it. People who support are going to be readers.
And yes, modding tools and translations would be worth a mention if you were planning providing them.
Or maybe you can make the Normal edition worth $19.85 on the KS page. I personally don’t care about service medal but feel that the prices for the edition on website and KS should be same
I guess a blurb about the DRM would be nice to mention as would the digital delivery methods. I’d personally pay more for a DRMfree version.
Calling GD sandbox might confuse people and they would be thinking more along the lines of GTA. Is there another way to put it? From what i understand its a static world with dynamic pathing upon level load.
Watching the video again and I’m loving it. it sounds very professional and you can tell you have nothing but love for the game and for your fans. if its possible I’m even more of a fan now then i was when i found out about you 2 years ago
This looks pretty slick! I think you have a good advantage over many of the other kickstarters by already having visual proof you are willing to put forth the hard work to get this done.
I agree with Mind Dragon about adding details about modding tools. The ability to mod a game is a feature which seems to be overlooked nowadays and something gamers really latch onto when investing in a game.
"Sandbox could probably be removed. I agree that “Open world ARPG” is plenty enough to give a player a great idea what the game will be like.
Maybe an extra little blurb about the Universe of the game would be helpful. I wouldn’t want it to add more to the page necessarily, but if there is a good link the investor could go to to learn more, I think that would be a plus.
PS. It was awesome to see more footage and screens!
Arthur Bruno, you are pure inspiration and a testament to what can happen if you follow your dreams and never give up.
As its been said you have proof that there is forward momentum. Not just concept art and some music put together in an ejay program… well Bang Camaro, but that was just awesome!
Anyways, I agree you are providing more to kickstarter than most do. Get the word out, Shacknews, Gamasutra, Destructoid you have fans everywhere.
I adjusted the prices a bit so that the lowest boxed version is now $100. Part of the reason it is more expensive is that our goal is only $280k. If we end up with only just enough pledges to cover that, the relative cost and work of shipping out boxed editions will be greater. Likewise, Double Fine was initially asking for $400k and has their box at $100.
I’ll remove the sandbox thing, I guess it is overkill and could be confusing as some have suggested.
I thought the message was communicated really well and on a “mates” level. Said all along that the devs on this forum have been outstanding with their support for the community and it feels like someone you know making this game. Didn’t see anywhere in the clip of Crate crying poor or being desperate and that was Crate to see.
As mentioned, including some information about modding tools and DRM would certainly be worthwhile. I think these are some big factors that will make people feel a lot more inclined to support you guys, especially given D3’s decisions in these areas.
But the video…freaking fantastic, I have to say! I already knew most of what was mentioned in the video as I’ve been around on the boards for a while but I was still so drawn in! I think you did a great job of portraying the position you’re in being an indie developer and that the core elements are good to go. Including all that gameplay footage (the mastery screen was a nice touch ) makes that very clear. And you appeared very honest and prepared to go all the way in getting an incredibly well made game out.
I pray to any and all necessary deities that you get the backing necessary to complete this game and make it as great as you envision.
Ok, removed sandbox and put up a new image, added modding and DRM free to the feature list.
Added in the blurb about the world.
I can see the point about the redundant description in the $450 version but, at the same time, it seems annoying to redirect people back to another reward if they want to re-read it. Plus, the alternative is to just waste space writing “go back and see the previous description.” Text is free and redundancy seems like the lesser of two evils here.
Not sure if this has been talked about anywhere. But us legendary buyers that preordered 2 years ago, will they have an exclusive like the kickstarter one? =P I kinda wanna be different too!
I thought there was going to be a $52 tier for those that already pre-purchased on the site? I mean, I guess I can give another $100 to the game, but I am not exactly wealthy.
We saw that most of the other successful game projects on Kickstarter had $15 as their lowest tier. We felt like it would be a good idea to make our lowest tier a little closer to that. I figured it was less than a $2 difference and no different than something going on sale.
Also, we’re going to add an early supporter medal to the Normal edition website pre-order. I probably should have mentioned that in advance.
