Magpie's HC Classless Journal

Yeah I was lurking in that thread as it was coming out. Just forgot what the user’s name was, ty.

By my own (irrelevant) standards, it is Contragor who sits on the GD throne until someone gets it in 1.2 ssf.

Thanks for sharing! So I double checked and it seems that Knife completed the challenge on November 12th. Sunder and whatnot for 1.2 was in the patch that released on November 16th.

This means that the ultimate throne is now still vacant imo!

By my (again, irrelevant) personal standards, if bosses are harder post 1.2, then the badge of perseverance is harder to get since those fights were the most likely cause of death in my experience.

Knife was more akin to Poseidon to Contragor’s Zeus. He repeated the same challenge under the same constraint, but once one person beats a challenge then others know they can too. It’s already proven.

You and and RSnoomak are competing for the new highest seat.

TLDR, every time the badge gets harder to get, the throne opens.

I consider the extra challenges RSnoo is adding to be meaningful but not deterministic of who holds the throne. It’s simply whoever gets it first, under the hardest overarching patch, ssf as the challenge was intended for. I hold this view because while we can come up with endlessly more difficult self-imposed ways to attempt the challenge, the person who simply gets it first, SSF as was intended, is effectively a pioneer.

Perhaps a better way to look at it is that Contragor can never be dethroned. But a completely new throne that is not under his is open to you or whoever gets it next.

2023, Knife did it in 2025, well after sunder updates

Note that 1.2 introduced a bug causing monsters attacks to miss. So it’s actually way easier now. Also, as of right now, I don’t plan to play SSF again. I’ve collected the early game blueprints 10-15 times. It doesn’t add challenge, it just adds 3 hours of grinding to your play through.

Ah, so Knife did take the throne. Thanks for correcting me. My dates are all messed up lol.

I think it’s valid not to delete blueprints. It is indeed purely time padding as they can be safely farmed. It’s basically still ssf. And as for it being easier now, then I’m not sure what to think.

Perhaps it’s as simple as Contragor being our eternal GOAT

Can’t beat the OG.

Do you need to grind for them specifically? Don’t they just mostly drop while playing through the game?

It depends on what you’re playing. Poison build needs Contagion. Physical build needs Guile. And the best way to get those is early game totems.

You also need Explorer’s Boots to survive skeletal golems. If you’re using procs, you want Adept’s Gloves to trigger them.

This is how I look at it!
