Managing large raids

I found it difficult to manage the raids in the later game, when 100+ raiders are attacking on several fronts. It was impossible to zoom out far enough to see the full scale of the attack or where you needed troops. The constant pop ups of villagers or buildings being attacked were impossible to keep up with, when I’d click on the magnifying glass I usually kept being sent to the same location, even when attacks were happening in other parts of my map. It’d be nice to have some kind of defense view/overlay, where you could zoom out further (fine to lose detail on this) and have hot-spots of attacks lit up or identified in some way.

I’m trying something different. Whenever raiders appear I place a watchtower, once built I turn it off and it still shows the same level of visibility. Gradually I build a chain until I find their spawn point, after which it looks like they no longer spawn from their as it is being “watched.” Will have to try a few more games to confirm, last game had to be abandoned due to lagging.

Not gonna lie first thing I do when the raid pop up shows up is hit pause and then make sure I have F3 on (think that’s the one that shows the titles) and go look for where they all are. they do tend to try and hit your weakest spots though so if you want to be a little less cheaty (pausing time is hardly RL) you can always just build allocating the weak spots so you know where they going to hit and have your defence built there too.

The magnifying glass rotates through all raiders one-by-one. To see all 100 raiders via this method requires you to click it near 100 times… F3 is a much better way to identify them, though if the raider has not yet appeared in your town, you won’t see them or know from whence they will come.

I usually dispatch the troops and hunters to guard the most important buildings or meet the raiders on the streets coming into town. Usually that spot I choose is also protected by a guard tower or two. This enables me to fight off the vast majority using the ai and then I just pick off any raiders that make it through the defenses.

Mini map, with alerts where attacks are occurring would solve. Minimap is key.

The Terrain can be your ally.
Water works much better than Walls at keeping the enemy out.

Well it does work but is so costly in gold after having to repair them quite often. I have noted that raids have a time limit so engaging them farther away reduces the numbers that reach my town before they turn back. Things to try next, walled in multiple towers with multiple walls and gates, barracks with multiple walls and gates.

Have your inner most wall be stone then layer wood walls over your base stone wall. wood walls are faster and less costly to rebuild. I usually have a double stone base and three wood outer layers.

Raiders mostly attack gates, I make all my gates and the walls on either side of stone. New game I started I only have single wood walls as yet but I have two towers in each fort, each one with it’s own walls and gate. Only one raid so far has had one escapee.

All towers have two guards. One is usually absent.
