I’ve come across many skills that display in Werewolf form that they should hit with both hands. An example is Bloodbath from the Slaughter relic. It displays both hands on the tooltip in human and Werewolf form. It hits with both hands in human form with a unique animation. In Werewolf form, you swing with one hand and only do one-hand damage. It is like this with skills all over. Usually a skill will hit sometimes with main-hand, sometimes with off-hand. It doesn’t matter if this is dual-wield or melee and shield, it behaves the same.
I’ve seen a few mentions in the last few hotfixes mentioning fixes for skills and animations with dual-wield skills in Wereforms, but these issues and inconsistencies still remain. Including the example above.
This is not a bug.
Ok. I do think it shouldn’t work that way but oh well. The tooltip is very misleading then.
I would think Bloodbath would work (and with both hands) if you are dual-wielding melee weapons regardless if you are in Werewolf or not?
I would agree that if you are not dual-wielding melee weapons in Werewolf form, then Werewolf doesn’t give you dual-wield for free, and so Bloodbath wouldn’t work then.
I am dual-wielding melee. The skill actually will not work at all if you are not dual-wielding. The skill works in Werewolf, but only hits with one hand for some reason. And the hand it hits with is random per cast, it’s not always main-hand or off-hand. It’s like this with many skills I’ve found so far.
yep, can confirm/confused me at first too, but seems like it’s just feral claws type pseudo dualwield, like Z said i guess it’s intended then for some skills in wolf form.
We just gotta rely on animations to tell and not tooltip, ie overhead double swipe vs r/l alternation.
Can confirm on Bloodbath.
Yeah, I understand that now. But, between the tooltips and how most would expect it to work I think it’s just really weird.
Haha, I was just thinking whether I would call it “really weird” or just “unusual / not-documented”.
“technically” it’s not unprecedented, we’ve always had misleading dual wield tooltips like for cadence or eor or vire’s might and such
- only difference there was animations wouldn’t actually distinguish the pseudo dual wield scaling/merged dmg
This is the case with all spells (skills?). I remember weapon damage on PRM for examle works like this. Some percentage of the time right hand, the other left hand, depending on the animation.
If they changed it to be merged damage that would be better at least. In the Bloodbath ex you just lose a whole hand’s worth of damage just cause you’re in Werewolf form.
no it’s not universal across spells but specific projectile types (mi0 had a list) DEE, PRM and some devotion skills do not count in off-hand / left-hand weapon damage
Most spells just use mh afaik and doesn’t actually alternate, and spells like AAR that “uses” lefthand didn’t actually reference lefthand weapon but still mainhand iirc
If i had to guess it might be related to if the hand is directly “generating” the spell/the projectile emanates from the hand, the way it works with DEE/PRM but ex not doom bolt
Ring of steel is also technically a spell that got changed to true dual wield scaling recently but used MH before and has not animation to match i think, forcewave will outright tell you it uses shield in tooltip, while still slamming with it etc
Don’t know how we are supposed to do anything unique without looking up a guide in this game if the tooltips are misleading. I can ignore numbers being misleading but entire skills being totally unintuitive is very disappointing.
The unintuitive part is what bothers me the most. I thought that the forms were meant to have animations for all skills, but it feels like a bunch of animations are either missing or just lame. At least for item-based skills so far. It’ll take me awhile to test all the mastery skills. I love the forms, but hope this part of them gets improved.
it’s using wolf specific animations, so it’s recycling XY stuff instead of having “unique” per given non wolf skill , eg overhead slam on several or r/l/r/l alternating swipes etc
*Which to be fair is what a bunch of regular melee skills already do just with human/arm animations ![]()
