Map Editor - existing save/generate new map

Probably a suggestion for later-stage development, but there is community interest in a map editing tool, either to tweak an existing map save and add extra resources or to generate/modify new seeds to get updated hashes quickly.

Aware that this is already marginally possible in-game with mods, so this will probably be where something like this resides.

I was kind of wishing for options similar to Civ6 when you first start. More\less mountains, more\less lakes, more\less resources, etc.

A map editor would be awesome too. There were too many times I found a map that was pretty close to what I was looking for, but not close enough. Being able to change an island into a peninsula with an editor would be sweet

Civ 6 (and especially earlier Civ editions with robust editors) is what I had in mind when the discord community suggested this.

The volunteer wiki team has made some progress in cracking the nuances of the 11-Character hash, hopefully we’ll be able to reverse engineer some rudimentary controls for bodies of water and more in short order.

I’ve been doing a little of that myself after I noticed a pattern. Seeds ending in F# or E# tend to produce peninsulas and islands.

Extremely WIP version of earlier assessment:

Also worth noting:

  • Setting first six characters to 0 will give you a completely random seed instead of what you entered. (we believe it may control terrain variables)
  • 7th digit being a 0 gives you a very lush high-fertility map, we think this may be used for Idyllic when it launches.
  • 5-F give you very rocky mineral-rich biomes. It’s suspected that the Random biome selection uses some combination of these.

We’ll eventually add this to our World Generation page once we’ve got it further nailed-down.

I was just changing map types around and looking at what seed it generates, there are definitely some patterns. Almost all of the Idyllic maps had a 6 for the tenth character.
