[Mod] Reign of Terror

If you are talking about the ice bolts that get shot by chilling armor, they’re purey cold damage. Not retaliation damage.

This isn’t gonna happen specifically for melees. All that will change is the defense for now, and iron maiden.

Gear gives huge damage multipliers. Also retaliation isn’t high enough to passively wait monsters slap themselves to death, and it doesnt work on spells/ranged attacks. So a retaliation build by itself isn’t gonna be viable.

Discord does work more like a live chat, but there are many channels for several topics for various topics to be discussed. As these kind of forum posts come close to a live-chat almost.

Yes sorry, I keep getting the descriptions messed up. You got it!

My inability to remember specifics about things is showing. When I just read the description of the Chilling Armor it doesn’t specifically say retaliation, but it’s description is identical to retaliation except that the result is a spell instead. As a result, I remembered it had said it was retaliation in the game, when it did not. But that skill is why I was going for cold mastery to buff both melee and that specific type of elemental retaliation.

EDIT: The end result of the skill is that it was actually just as effective or more effective against melee than retaliation damage itself, as long as there were ranged attackers in the area. It was just impossible to have paladin attack skills simultaneously with it and still buff elemental damage on the far end of the Sorceress skill tree.

It’s a modern day chat server. An extremely popular one - it basically rules the roost in that arena.

You can run it in a browser or you can download its app and run it. Almost all game companies these days have a Discord server (channel) of their own.

Here’s a picture of the main Grim Dawn Discord server…

Functionality wise, it is very similar in capabilities to how this forum works (which is a Discourse forum, not to be confused with Discord). You can drag and drop files/photos/links into it etc. You can even create your own private Discord servers if you wish, for yourself and friends/family or just whoever.

I mixed up terms again and meant to say I thought it was only live voice. So the rest sounds like a modern Messenger. Thanks. I wasn’t fully aware it had multipurpose function.

Yup. Most use it for text interaction but it does indeed have mic capabilties.

Never played the original D2. Tried a “Hammerdin” 2 years ago but didn’t get too far with that. Was recommended a Sorceress as a noob player to D2.

Been really enjoying the Sorceress and beat Andariel on normal with a bit of kyting without too much trouble.

Going forward is the Sorceress viable as a single class or should I invest into another class? I’d prefer to stay with a D2 class if possible.

Thanks.

If you stretch the definition of viable, sure its possible. Itll be hard though. For minimum effort and maximum result, I’d recommend a paladin, just for holy shield and conviction auras, and any left over points in the passives from paladin.

Hello. I’m also playing this very char (Sorceress with paladin’s holy shield and almost got to conviction). My problem is chance to hit. I put all my attributes to strength to get the spirit shield, the rest into intellect, as the build description said https://www.reignofterrorgd.com/buildguides/Uber-Battle-Chaplain

I’m now in the V act on Normal and my chance to hit is about 60% for normal mobs, for bosses must be even less, 0 chance to crit. And I imagine it will only go down on Nightmare and Hell. Any advice?

You cannot go below 60% chance to hit. To boost your AR, I would put all points in dexterity. And only add points to str or int for gear requirements. Conviction takes care of most attack rating, so max that when you can. Then you can extra attack rating from enchant. Then I’d recommend perhaps a revision of your devotions. Some easy to get, high AR devotions are Panther, Hawk and Chariot of the Damned. Then top of your attack rating by using (perfect) amethysts, and the augments from act1 and act2.
I’d try to stay at at least 80% chance to hit during the campaign. Once you find some Gul runes it will be easy to have enough attack rating.

Edit: small side note, I havent checked the guide you are following after seeing who posted it. That dude never leveled a toon. He just used GDstash to make builds with impossible or nearly impossible gear, just to flex his toon in the discord. So I wouldnt rely on that one, and use another guide as reference.

Thank you, simply putting perfect amethists wherever possible made a huge difference. I also changed my auguments, rearranged my skills to get conviction and enchanted weapon and now for white mobs I have 86-100% chance to hit! Your advice was most helpful.

Fuzzy, thanks for that information.

I was stuck on Nightmare Andariel a number of days, with the recognition that my current build was meant more as a meme that actually began to work, than something truly serious. But I want to mention it because of the extreme changes I went through just to kill her.

Once I had my items PERFECT including 20% attack speed with runes on all possible items, crafted other items, and changed out and added/buffed yet other items including a Perfect Prism on my weapon, fully reprioritized my skills without doing a different build entirely (this took alot of work and many tries), and completely going offensive with the exception of one good passive section with retaliation and health, I was finally able to take her out pretty quickly but still with a struggle.

The ONE passive that actually helped was lifesteal, so I left that in. I then switched all passives back, kept my skills the same, and kept my items the same as I was selling other items just to get enough health potions fighting Andariel hours on end and continually dying, I am finally ready to continue my journey in act 2. I defeated Normal + Baal before I’d done the more massive changes.

The emphasis is that even with an EXTREMELY offensive build and 150% attack speed with around 60k max damage, I couldn’t take her out. Going to 170% attack speed with lifesteal took me over the top. Few of the defensive passives really helped at all even though many skills I tried only mildly increased my DPS (passive skills). While I know that poison damage is being nerfed on Andariel in the next patch, I still wanted to relay how difficult this was.

I took this route instead of the long boring way of leveling to over 70 with a world boss (by killing his minions and him sometimes), because I figured at level 61 I was well ahead of the curve and SHOULD be able to do SOMETHING to defeat her. I don’t think poison damage itself was the main problem, and was instead Andariel’s massively fast healing that was the culprit, requiring enormous amounts of DPS and completely abandoning my built to an extreme level just so I could progress.

While my build wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible, and even optimal items was not enough to take her out. On my items I also had to abandon shield block, we’re talking at least 25% worth. I’m leaving that AS IS since I’m totally broke, LOL.

I had to relocate 20 passives out of the 33 or so I’ve received so far.

I could further test it to see if more defense would have worked with 170% attack speed on the passive end, but I’m out of gold.

EDIT: While I didn’t have alot of dex, Andariel was 85% chance to hit her, so that wasn’t really a problem at all.

EDIT 2: An hour or two after typing this I remembered Prevent Monster Heal. I don’t think I had this statistic anywhere.

Only prevents regeneration, it does not stop healing effects from skills or life leech. So it wont help vs Andariels heal.

does the regeneration reduction go down to negative?

or it just simply take it down to 0% only?

Just stops it at 0 hp/s

looking forward to the new patch since there is not much Ieft to do for me atm.
Once again: superb mod!

Do we get the Potion of Life (from Alkor) only once? I just completed the quest on Nightmare and didn’t get the second one, is it intended? Also the Resistance Scroll.

Yes, intended because in earlier versions the potion / scroll had better effects based on the difficulty and players were able to abuse it by stacking all 3 buffs under certain conditions and hence why there’s only 1 potion / scroll now.

I see, thank you.

Bug report, maybe?
In Kurast Bazaar on Nightmare I encounter Hell Swarm, who spawn with their health bar at zero (but they are rather hard to kill, so their health are not at zero).
