[Mod] Reign of Terror

Yer kinda good at confusing the topic I’m noticing (nevermind that we are way off topic now).

Anyway, i live in the US. Wolcen Studios is in France.

Guys!
Hell Laracna has 245 Million HP!!!
I think this boss is a good way to test single target performance of your builds. My level 76 Conqueror is definitely struggling here. With 230k sheet dps, it takes way over 1 min to down the boss :frowning:

@powbam That game was a fund raiser and many years in the making. Wolcen. Waiting for them to actually finish it, LOL. They are close. Haven’t played even 5 minutes of it. I bought it in beta. Yes, the team has grown because people say the game is struggling due to the online community, but it’s sales were far beyond expectations so they have some money.

The other game is Last Epoch, I think it’s campaign is done now, or it’s close to done. Bought it for 10 dollars as a crowd funder as well. Any crowd funder is initially a small team, in general.

@Contragar and fuzzy, many players would continually claim low level builds couldn’t perform with pets. My main comparison was closer to endgame and high level. I played my summoner initially when the game still was in easy mode, so they may have had a point, but endgame was super OP. The endgame was after the game became much more difficult, when the complaints arose.

I have played pretty much every single build start to halfway hell. Especially when someone goes calling: XXX suck! plx fix I give it a try and see for myself.
Literally any ability can be used just fine to level. Some do require more brain to level it, and some a bit more piloting skills as well. Summoner toons require neither brains nor piloting skills. If you feel they suck, it’s because you’re making poor decisions and build a character wrong, or you’re coming in expecting an too easy mod.

Since you were able to clear Uber Tristram pretty fast, I’d say your build is totally fine? Otherwise, if you think it’s underperforming, we could have a close look together?

Indeed. I’ve owned it since early access and am well aware of when it was Umbra. It sold more than expected because they released it early - way too early - and paid tons of Twitch streamers to pimp the game as a “PoE killer”… Which drastically backfired on them once people started playing it.

It went rapidly downhill after launch. They blew their load and wasted their shot. I don’t expect they will ever recover what could have been.

Glad you know the history of the game more than I thought! I hadn’t heard about the money pumping. That makes me sad. :frowning:

@Fuzzydunlop Thanks for the clarification. Since I hadn’t played alot back then I didn’t know for sure. I put too much faith in player reports sometimes.

Yup. They got money from Kickstarter, from Tencent,
Tencent’s Games Without Borders: Support for Indie Devs Worldwide | by ProjectMQ | Medium

and from early access on Steam.

Then prior to launch they paid a buncha Twitchers to stream it. Which brought in people in droves, whereupon it immediately began sinking.

Basically, the theory is that due to the massive amount of hiring they did in the year or so prior to launch, it drained their existing funds thus forcing them to launch early even tho the game was riddled with bugs and issues.

… I have made two mistakes, which are explained by the fact that I have drawn wrong conclusions by your addressed 2,000,000 dollars.

Add. 1: I assumed that the company is based in the USA - and that was wrong!
Add. 2: I have taken the wages of American developers as a basis - and this was also wrong!

Ergo, I can’t see any confusion from my side. I could have googled for the companies, then I would have known that not the USA but France is the home of Wolcon Studios.

So I’d say you keep your head down, and the story is water under the bridge … :innocent:

That’s sad to hear! I’d seen the team growth recently, I didn’t know it was so big before. That’s why when you buy a game it’s an investment if it’s early access. You don’t know if it will release. Looks like Wolcen came close to being vaporware.

It is TRAGIC to see the corporate money thing overrun vision and game design talent.

Thanks for the info there are also items with +1 on Clay Golem? only find with 1 to 3 Skeletons Raise or Skeletons Mage but nothing with Golem

… who do you personally think is the strongest character in RoT, divided into melee and ranged fighters, and how many lives are needed to pass in Hell:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

From a HC perspective, I’d say you need no RIPs at all unless you are using a very glassy build. Given the amount of + skill on gear and extra skill and devotion points, it’s very easy to achieve the required toughness to survive.

Here’s what I’d aim for in HC to survive Hell

  1. All resistances overcapped by 50%+ with some max res increased via devotions and items.
  2. Defence 3.5-4k - this is very important! At 4k, no boss will be able to crit you until maybe the very end of Hell and even then, the crit chance will be very very low.
  3. Life regen and life leech. Both should be used if your build allows for it.
  4. Armor 3k+ Shouldn’t be a problem to achieve even on NM
  5. Saving procs - things like Giant, Tree of life, Obelisk, some item procs would all add to your overall odds of survival.

So, in 3 days from the start of Normal+, I was able to reach Hell. Currently Pre Diablo, level 78, no close calls yet. At 3.9k defence Mephisto couldn’t make a dent in my HP pool. Totally doable, and I’m not even using most defensive devotions.

Good Old Kurast! - Best Rune drop so far

… Thank you very much for your detailed explanations, but when I look at how many points you have invested in strength and dexterity, I can only imagine that you have put a lot of devotion points into pictures that guarantee you additional strength and dexterity.

Or you have found appropriate equipment! Also, I can’t imagine how I can already have 3K+ armour with my wizard in Act 3 Nightmare?

So the bottom line is this:
Since Defence is only increased by Strength and Attack Rating exclusively by Dexterity, even as a Wizard I am forced to waste points that I would much rather have put into Intelligence. Or is there another possibility, if I don’t find appropriate equipment, which increases the defence in addition to increasing my main spells?

I had the fun of checking how many extra points my wizard got from equipment and devotion builds to strengthen his defence.
With the complete equipment it is just 38 points with the Chest Armor (Lionheart) and with various Devotion builds another 100 points are added.
Ergo, I have exactly 138 additional points in strength, which is not even close to reaching your target of 3.5 - 4k in defence.

So how should I proceed - without dying? Especially when I play self-found, I am extremely dependent on what I find!

Back in my 4,000 hour hardcore Sacred days, I had about 20 characters that had just about every piece of armour stashed on them that existed in the game.
It wasn’t particularly difficult to equip my corresponding builds (mostly wizards on horseback) in such a way that even in PvP hardly any opponent could stand up to them.

But here it’s different - here I’m starting from scratch, and the best rune I’ve found so far was a Lum, which doesn’t necessarily help to create unique equipment.

Also, I would have liked to know what kind of characters are behind a Conqueror … :grinning:

As a wizard, you will have to lower defence, of course. But it’s not terrible given that you can reach 25%+ damage absorption, immunity window, teleport. Still, high Def and armor is possible. Here’s what I found 2 days ago - a single item gives 10% defence and 4-5% armor.

Though it’s a necro set, both your wizard and my conqueror (Oathkeeper + Barbarian) can benefit from it greatly. A lot of mid-endgame gear gives you good stats and I’m fairly certain you will be able to reach 3k+ def. It’s not all about str and dex, devotions and gear help a lot.
This item, once I was able to craft it, basically turned my char into an unkillable tank.

Massive def and armor bonuses, even though it doesn’t help my dps, but better safe than sorry right?

When it comes to endgame Grim Dawn, it can be very punishing for glassy builds in HC. The main problem is that you can’t always predict insane spikes of incoming damage which comes in the form of multiple debuffs + unique boss attacks, ground effects, etc. You can literally get oneshot if the boss crits you while debuffed. This is why I’d always use a tanky build first to explore the game and then go glassy when I have a better idea of the extreme dangers. For example, my first RIP in this mod was the act 1 secret boss which basically oneshot me instantly. Now I know what areas to avoid lol.

… I also think you’re right - high armor and defense bonuses are probably really half the battle! :grinning:

But of course they also cost damn high damage values. Because if I consider I would have an Um, a Pul Rune and also a Sacred Armor (4 sockets) to craft an appropriate STONE armor, and then swap it for my Lionheart armor, I would lose 80K DPS, a value that is not of bad parents.

Still, again, you’re dependent on finding good gear, but that shouldn’t stop me from following your advice and playing a tank build.
I’m curious to see what comes out of it …

80k dps is a relative value. If your main skill damage drops from 100k per hit, to 90k per hit - that’s a 10% damage loss.
In my case it would drop from 257k to 248k and that’s really nothing. You could sacrifice 2-4 item slots for toughness and still end up having crazy dps, especially as a mage.

HI,
this mod is awesome, its more like a own game itself and not a mod. Having a blast playing it and it has some nice QoL i ever want (for an arpg)like big space box and free respec to try different skills. Guess i will ignore D2R because it gets “nothing” new.

Started 5-6 days ago. Always loved -d2 assasin and GD-inq. Now i can combine both!! awesome.
So playin a headhunter focus on lightning sentry. Had no issues until i reached NM act 3, was a bit though so i farmed some hours , got lucky found first highrunes : gul and vex , later pul and um,later again vex, mal, sur (all in NM). So i crafted hoto + stone + spirit - got stronger and continued . Now hell act1 no issues so far.
currently my stats : 3700ar with deadly iam. 2600 defense and 1800armor, 280k dps with LS.

will continue when iam done with act 6. Thanks for reading.

If you put all points in imtelligence you get quite a nice damage boost. It is possible for some class combos. Arcanist for example, gives a lot of AR so you likely need to spend less points in dex. You usually wont know till you’re sort of end-game geared.

Far from all builds have been tried. But poison jab or a sacrifice build is probably the strongest melee, multiple shot amazons the strongest range. But it really depends on the gear you end up using.
