So I thought there was no point in maxing out Isaac’s Incendiary Implement and that it was only good as a proc machine, this test character just made me realise how wrong I was when I decided to test out a build idea I have been thinking about. Now I’m going to make this Build legitly, here’s a video showing the test version:
I could make the range start a little bit lower, but it’s just extremely underwhelming with the range so short. It looks like you don’t believe it’s a 1-point wonder anymore, but I agree it’s probably too powerful.
Making it fire in bursts isn’t something I know an elegant way to do with the tools. Might have to make the fire have a large energy cost and give it a special buff ability with a cooldown that will increase its energy to something absolutely huge. I’ll play around with it.
Can’t you do what I have suggested, 3sec duration with a 0.5-1sec cooldown on the pets attack?
It’s still stupidly powerful as a 1pointer though, no build will put more then 1 point unless it’s going to be their only attack

Ah ok well that’s an easy fix then, reduce cast rate or put a 0.3-0.5 cooldown
Hitting 2-3 times a sec is still fast and should provide enough nerfing without being too much
Hm, not so sure about that one. A decent amount of the damage is coming from the burn DoT the flamer puts on. The little bit of direct fire damage is effectively pointless and could be removed, I guess. Like I was saying earlier, it seems that being hit repeatedly with the same DoT effect from the same source simply resets the duration. Multiple flamers can each apply their own effect and it quickly spirals out of control.
Also, I did manage to make burst fire kinda work, except the flamer tries to “punch” people when it can’t use the flame stream. It’s honestly kinda hilarious, but I don’t think it’s worth the silliness.
I think for now I’ll look into removing the flat fire damage and see where that puts it.
Ah so it’s the burn that’s causing the issue.
I assume you want to keep the burn? Then double the duration but leave the damage same so have it over 6secs instead of 3secs that way it reduces the damage done per interval so should reduce the absurdness of dot stacking significantly
Hmmmm… Yeah, I think I like this solution. It would also be nice to keep some amount of the flat fire damage (I like seeing dozens of numbers fly off enemies, don’t judge.) I’ll play with it for a while and see what I can do. Could also make the duration very long so it’s a slower burn down. Maybe give the enemies a chance to whack you a bit before they just melt.
I love seeing lots of numbers as well that’s why I like fire and forget skills so much.
6 seconds is already a very long burn I wouldn’t go over 8 secondsthough, 10 is stretching it on for too long.
Well, looks like it already started at 5 seconds before I even changed anything… I’ll mess around with this until I figure something out.
EDIT: Testing stuff, I guess the flat fire damage is doing more work than I initially gave it credit for. Still want to keep it around, but have to play with it a bit more.
Have you thought of reworking Turf Turner into something like: you cast it and every second it deals the aoe dmg exploding around you, but without applying over time damage like now. It would be cool to be able to run around with it. The cooldown could start with 12 sec at lvl 1 down to 6 sec (always up) at lvl 16. It’s modifier knockdown chance would have to be lowered though.
Also, if this doesn’t go through consider increasing the damage on burn on Turf Turner modifier, because as it is right now, there is no point adding more than 1 points for knockdown chance to it.
Hmm, yeah, I agree with you now that I look at it again. It is a pretty underwhelming skill overall. I’ll probably rework it, maybe I’ll try to do something similar to your suggestions.
On the main menu, the button that says “Main Campaign”, click that and select “Custom Game.” Make sure GD-EngineerMastery is selected in the box below and hit accept. Make a character and you should be good to go.
I made an installation video, goes until hitting level 2. I figured there’s nothing better than watching me literally install the mod. Here ya go. Compression is wonky but fullscreen is crystal clear.
