Could we get some additional things to do with the schools. Like training specialists in professions that would increase the production of those professions. (apprentices) ?
How about a college that can train lawyers and scientists? Might be a requirement to have that before upgrading to a Hospital for doctors.
Lawyers might enable judges and courts even. (captured raiders, unruly residents) and then JAILS!
Scientists would develop innovations to improve productivity (advanced tools?) (better steel and smithing?) (burning arrows/oil/other advance defenses and weapons knowledge) Just for fun the scientist shack might explode occasionally.
I donāt know if the design of the game was ever intended to encompass a āTech Treeā like 4X games, complete with dramatic or fundamental changes in the way things are done in the game. Thereās some of this ābuilt inā like the change from bows to crossbows or hide coats to plate armor, but none of it is connected to a change in technology directly.
On the other hand, the first Guild was formed in 1020 CE (in the Netherlands) and it was the Guilds that took charge of training apprentices, improving manufacturing, setting standards for products, etc.
So, letās leave the āschoolā as a source of Primary instruction (basic literacy) but add a higher Tier Guild Hall. And the Guilds could be (as they were) specialized:
Guild of Barbers and Surgeons for your ādoctorsā
Guild of Scriveners for your scribes, law-clerks, and keepers of records
Guild of Skinners and Glovers, or Tanners and Curriers for the Tanneries and Cobblers
Guild of Ironworkers or Black and White Smiths for Armories, Foundries, Blacksmiths
Guild of Drapers or Weavers or Clothiers for all cloth-related trades
