Mouse Cursor invisible on Steam Deck

I’ve seen this issue reported multiple other places (here, reddit, the Steam forums), but haven’t seen an official response. It seems the latest update made the cursor invisible on Steam Deck. Changing Proton version, changing launch to x64, and reinstalling the game don’t do anything.

This makes managing the inventory and fast traveling on the map super annoying.

Any help?

@zantai how is this not a bug? An invisible mouse cursor is definitely a bug

I have some more detail… It seems to be how the game interprets the trackpad when using the official controller layout. The official layout has the trackpad and right joystick mapped to “Camera”/

When changing the controller layout to “WASD + Mouse”, the cursor appears.

I tried loading up the official controller layout and just switching the trackpad to be a mouse input, but the UI doesn’t know how to handle switching between controller layout and mouse layout… So, definitely a visual bug, and a recent one at that.

The Steam Deck is not officially supported. If you want advice on addressing it, we moved it to the community section.

That’s really disappointing considering it worked fine up until a couple of months ago. A patch that you guys pushed out broke it and your response is shrug? Disappointing because I really love this game and want to recommend it to people, but I guess it’s good to know where Crate Entertainment stands on a big and growing portion of the PC gaming community.

What do you propose I do for you?

Do I go tell the programmers to please stop working on the upcoming expansion, pick up a Steam Deck (because none of them have one), and try to reproduce this issue that does not even seem to universally impact Steam Deck users, which is not a platform we currently even support and do not list anywhere as officially supported?

I’m sorry you are experiencing an issue, and I have no doubts it is frustrating, but I cannot offer any assistance and I would not even know where to begin with it, so I moved your thread to the general discussion where other Steam Deck users might be able to help you out, which is quite literally the best I can do for you under present circumstances.

We buy the game because it has worked on our device for months/years, and all of a sudden a patch breaks a very useful feature. Even if its not officially supported, it worked great until now. Even a way to revert to the previous version I would enjoy, but it looks like I wont be picking this game up or any future expansions until this is fixed.

curious if you, any of you, have tried changing control scheme?
*asking because i remember someone mentioning that on the discord, as deck uses steam’s settings, but GD uses Xinput/Xbox controls as base
iirc someone mentioned big picture? (legit don’t remember) or something in relation to that which made deck’s control different/use a different profile or able to use GD’s native “/something”
^can you tell i don’t have a deck and going on rando mentions combined with swizz cheese memory?

You can opt into the v1.1.9.8 beta branch and see if the cursor returns. If it does, the update did in fact cause this. If not, then the game patch is not why you are now seeing this issue. It’s not like we up and decided to change how the cursor works 8 years later.

There’s also this, not sure how easy to do on Steam Deck

Does Steam push updates to the OS of the Steam Deck? Maybe that caused the issue?

That does work fine on my pc.

Steam deck is not really a pc. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, if it’s not supported you shouldn’t be surprised if the developers can’t fix it for you. (Otherwise it’d be listed as supported.)

you can set one of the trackpads to “as mouse” in the controller layouts, and then configure which ever button you’d want to use as LMB/RMB. only real change I had to make was disabling the right trackpad as also being the camera controls for the regular gameplay controls. mouse cursor appears for me and can interact with everything.
