Necro disappointing

Really trying hard not to give up but… this class seems awful. Level 36 now drain essense seems like poo, skeletons are useless, die so easily. Takes a ton of mana to kill things. Thinking the necro/shaman is going to be rapped big time in ultimate. Anyone tell me otherwise. Then there is my level 12 inquisiter/demo that cast word of pain and everything dies things get close and I melt their faces off with ignaffar.

Should I give up on necro and go with inquisiter? Right now I’ just using necro to farm some MI’s for relics, bone crushers and spectral longswords thougjt I’d use primal strike relic for swarm but holy crap does that thing require a ton of relics.

I use Drain Essence and it wrecks faces. (At about level 60.) It’s just about stacking as much cast speed as possible. It’s a sustained DoT, faster it ticks, faster you apply damage. It pairs excellent with Arcanist and it’s cast speed passive for this reason. It’s basically just AAR but in reverse. Though the top tier Necro ability also gives you cast speed.

You could probably craft a few items to give you some extra cast speed.

Not saying it couldn’t probably use some love, but I’ve never felt like it was doing nothing. If Crate wants to buff it, then go for it, lol

Of course, I also have a nice pile of plus skills. There’s a lot of variation between builds and classes, so you kinda have to make it work for you, and I understand not everyone will have the same experience.

Yes Necromancer disappointing :frowning:

Sounds good then, I’ll keep on soldiering on with him. Currently I use a maxed devouring swarm to get the -60% vitality de buff, my essense is only at level 3 so I’m sure that’s part of the issue I’m having.

My other annoyance with the necro is the casting of skeletons currently that is level 3 as well as the next node giving me +2 to skeletons. Someone please tell why he can’t cast all 5 at once instead of 3 cooldown recast 5!!!?? What is that about?

Stick to a theme, firstly. If you want to go for pets, focus on them exclusively. My summoner is already in Ultimate and he puts out more single target damage than any of my other builds to date, and pet gear/devotions help survivability of the pets significantly. If you want to go for more of a caster, drop the pets and focus on casting and player damage. I also have a necromancer who is a Vitality caster. Admittedly, he is still in normal, but he is extremely effective because of the focus.

I’m disappointed that you’re not having a good time, but it seems like you might want to work a little bit on your character before jumping ship.

I don’t know how it scales into Elite/Ultimate but Ravenous Earth is amazing in speedruns. Easily the best active of all the new skills.

I have had mixed results with hybrid necro (which seems to be your current path OP).

I have had spectacular results with specialized necro. He is the master of summoning if you go all in. He is a top tier vitality caster if you go all in that route.

I’d highly recommend revisiting your build concept and see if tightening it up in one direction or the other offers you more pleasurable results.

I was using ravenous earth but switched to the bone spear ground wave thing. My end build will have all of drain essense line maxed, he whole bone ground spear line maxed, raise skeleton line all maxed, the top exclusive (harbinger of souls?) maxed, ill omen and its line both at 5. Shaman only 10 in bar, devouring swarm maxed, grasping vines 2, mogdrogen 1, summon briarthorn 6.

So yes a hybrid of sorts with more into casting. I’ll stick him out for now and hope once I dump more points into necro skills they’ll start to shine.

But my theory for my inquisiter should be amazing in thought.

To many characters, still haven’t finished the new zones with old characters, plaguemancer and commando nor got my pure soldier out of elite. This is the first time I didn’t wipe all characters for new update.

You’re surprised that drain essence sucks at level 3 and skeletons are squishy at level 3 when you’re doing level 36 content? They’re both skills found early in the tree, so early levels of the skill are expected to be bad when you’re level 36.

Necromancer actually feels too strong to me (least as a pet build). Average gear at lvl37 as a summoner Cabalist, pets absolutely wreck everything.

Not totally as I responded that’s part of the problem but even at level one vs level one baddies I was never impressed with the skill. I like the idea of sucking the life out of enemies as it’s close to other bleeder builds I’ve made. That’s why I didn’t just say for get it, part of the problem is drain essense doesn’t make a satisfying noise if any at all when using.

No worries. Nerf is in the works.

It should sound like sucking cottage cheese through a straw. Life essence probably has similar consistency.

Coming back to say that Drain essence falls off spectacularly in Ultimate. It’s incredible how bad it is really.

19/16 skill points, 166% cast speed, 1500% cold damage, Rumor cold resist reduction, (I took the transmuter) and it all adds up to nothing. I’m like a glass cannon, but without the damage.

I just did a Warder through Ultimate with 1600% physical damage on Forcewave, and he wrecked faces. Never thought about it.

Based on my experience, I think this skill is incredibly weak or or maybe every enemy has high cold resistance, or maybe it requires a hilarious amount of gear to work, which I have no interest in, and would only prove how bad it is. “Guys! At 26/16 it becomes useable!” lololol

Please buff this thing. It’s a travesty. And buff the sound too. Right now it sounds like someone quietly sucking air through their teeth.

Also buff the slow on the transmuter to 80%. 20% is nothing. It doesn’t even work on heroes anyway. It’s a total troll bonus. Might as well add, “Sometimes shoots pretty sparklers!” while you’re at it. Better yet 20% slower enemy attack. At least something that will keep you alive, since you lose the life steal, which is basically the only thing that keeps most classes alive.

lol…

68 Cabalist here and still going solid; cracked log on elite some hours back and now clearing barrowholm.

If you dont know how to go on with the necro go cabalist route and use this build provided by Killerbug:

- CLICK ME -

Its really fun to play and strong at any level stage; just make sure you only equip items with +pet affixes during leveling, keep an eye on resistances and your good.

Pretty much an “easy going build” that doesnt require special items during leveling; except for the +pet affixes.

Read my latest post. :stuck_out_tongue:

Necro is actually very strong if u go for the pet builds or 2H ritualist. However beside those 2 comboes Necro doesnt seem to fit with other classes since Vitality damage support is very rare… I highly suggest u go for Inq if u want diversity cuz Necromancer in GD is quite different from other games u REALLY have to go for the pets due to the 2 “ultimate skills” of Necro supports pet builds… Anyway just go for pet builds ignore the other skills they aint worth it. All necro skills r supportive (well besides the 2 WPS ones) and should be play like that, dont try to make sth else from it…;)

You serious? vitality has the most support of any damage type by far

Necro is my favorite class… my vitality death knight is the best char i’ve ever made. Just beat ultimate sentinel yesterday with it on first try without knowing tactics.

Granted compared to the retarded mobs that are in the game at this point ultimate sentinel is probably considered piss easy… but it was a good moment for me at least.

What I don’t really like is, why struggline with a sword/board dk that I do 20k dps on while there are bleed and electrocute warder builds that do like 300k dps…

I don’t understand how the devs think bleed electro-bleed is balanced at the moment. it puts all other builds (pets, regular melee, spellcasters combine them ALL from their top tier builds and they still don’t do as much dmg) to shame its just such a effing joke.
