New Forum Feedback

In your case it’s, “I have no idea of the ramifications of which I speak nor the context of why we are even on a new forum”.

Think that about sums it up.

He said old style, not old forum. Like me he probably prefers the page layout to continuous scrolling.

@crashing reverting back to the old forum isn’t possible because it no longer exists. The void sucked it in and it’s never coming out again.

On the forum overview page, I miss information like “Last post from”.
Also I cannot find the feature “go to last post”, which is even more annoying with the new “no-pages-layout”, where you have to scroll down to the 1000th post in order to see it.

Is this likely to be change, or did I even only overlook it?

Doesn’t exist, but opening the thread should take you to the last post. If not then just click on the time at the bottomr of the blue scroll bar to get there quickly.

The ‘entire’ Latest category, the default forum landing page, is that feature. It can display who the last poster was but Zantai seems to have modified so that it no longer does.

Nah, I just got more respect for him because he finally fulfilled my wish. :stuck_out_tongue: If he acted towards me like I’d be his pet… there’d be a nice pool of blood! :pirate_flag:

Thanks, this is now fixed.

One of the new features I like is the drafts. When I was creating build accidentally close the tab on my browser, but all was saved.

One thing Idk if it’s possible to be changed is reply button position.Sometimes you have to scroll a lot of stuff. Also I don’t know why there are two separate edits, one of the top to correct title and one of the bottom, which also can correct same things.

Thanks for this thread, just reading it helped me adjust to the new forums.

I must admit at first I didn’t like it - but realized it’s “no one likes change” and “I’m a grumpy old man”. So I’ve been visiting the site and learning how the new forum software works. I must say that I do like it as I use it more.

The improved mobile support is also nice, as well as a learning experience.

Glad to see the migration went well!

Grats to Crate for that, and thanks!

The ‘other’ edit, shown above, is a ‘History’ of your edits that lets you ‘go back’ to early revisions you’ve previously done, if you wish, as seen below:

It defaults to a ‘side-by-side’ HTML view, similar to the ‘Preview’ mode in the normal edit, except that it shows the diffs between the current version edit and the previous edit. To the left of it is the option to disable the ‘Preview’ mode (visually showing areas that you had changed from the previous version) while to the right:

You have a ‘Raw’ side-by-side view, showing the differences between current/previous edit.

The ‘other’ edit that you mention at the top - the TITLE area:

is just meant to quickly hop in and edit your title/category and tags. This can be particularly useful to mod/tool makers who want to perhaps update their thread title to reflect a version update ie. v1.1 to v1.2 and so on.

Of course that can be done in the ‘normal’ edit as well but it is likely this one is available more as a matter of convenience if you just want to change one of these things quickly without having to scroll down thru a potentially large post etc.

May I add another little complaint:
The forum overrides standard browser search - “STRG + F” leads to a special forum search.
Alright, I type in my search term, press enter and: It never works. I do not get scrolled to the correct place. Can I please use browser search in the forum?

use it again
first time CTRL + F opens Discourse search
second time CTRL + F opens browser search

Aaaaah ! <3 Thanks!

What I miss from the old forums is my subscribed threads. I had quite a lot of them, mostly from the builds section. Would have been nice if they had been converted to booknarks. I guess it wasn’t possible?

Apart from this and after some getting used to, I find the new forum vastly superior to the old one.
