New Forum Feedback

Just like a regular page-by-page forum it doesn’t all load at once. Find-in-page doesn’t see an entire thread… only what has loaded of it while you’ve ‘read’ it.

You want to search an entire thread this is what you use:

R85pxTnhdv

“Maybe because it’s all white and grey which makes it look dull and out of touch?” I’m not surprised. Have you seen the view count? The new threads on the new forums are roughly 5 times as low per thread in relation to view count when compared to the older forum’s threads. Do the basic math!? And look around the thread to see it for yourself. I remember when threads would get 2k views in 1 day when a topic was hot. Now they reach 500 at max. Why is that? Because The devs went from a simple platform to a difficult and glitchy platform and nobody wants to use it. “Not to mention many accounts got deleted it seems like since I can’t find most users from the older forum anymore.” It’s all discombobulated you might think. Hmmm… gee, I wonder why? Most people don’t want forums to be almost “unusable” by the majority of people who use them of course. “I can’t even add proper text to my threads now without the algorithms turning them into grey highlighted titled boxes when I just wanted to add some fucking color like in the older forum,” you might say. “Well… no shit. I have the same problem as you,” I would say. I don’t get what an MMORPG style background has to do with an ARPG game though. “And it sure doesn’t look that sunny in Grim Dawn if I recall correctly.” People seem to struggle with the new forums since they can’t seem to add proper sentences within the lines… probably because of the algorithmic bullshit and the incoherent options right above the person typing in this box to make threads. Now we need assistant moderators to edit posts in order to fix the “shit.” What to do what to do you might say. “Say, let’s revert back to the older forum where things were going great… SO WHAT DO YOU SAY?” ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Literally on par with the old forum…do I need to gather screencaps of the old forum before it was shut down?

User registrations are on par. Activity is on par. This forum has far more powerful metrics as well, so that’s even easier to tell for us as well.

Wait, I thought it was banned…which is it? Also, it’s still there, just with _ instead of spaces. But logging in via email was too complicated I guess.

Not an option…

You mean you seem to struggle. Then again you don’t seem particularly bright so it is understandably forgivable, I’m sure.

What’s not forgivable, however, is your total lack of respect for the art of the paragraph and there you are, complaining about “adding proper sentences within the lines” when you can’t even make a legible post.

Regrettable. While I wouldn’t mind having some no-brainer color boxes in the editor options again, it isn’t exactly rocket science to make some pretty colors. Nothing that could be said to be an algorithm at any rate.

How to not make grey highlighted titled boxes:

Don’t add a > at the start of a line, like so:

There are buttons in the editor that do that, btw. Just like there are buttons in the editor that perform this particular grey highlight as well. This is actually a "code" box tho while the one above is a "quote" box.

How to make your complex color “algorithms” - also known as simple html, you might have heard of it:

    <font color='white'> white </font> = white

    <font color='red'> red </font> = red

    <font color='blue'> blue </font> = blue

    <font color='green'> green </font> = green

    <font color='yellow'> yellow </font> = yellow

    <font color='orange'> orange </font> = orange

    <font color='black'> black </font> = black

The above is a prime example of what code boxes are used for.

Guess we’ll never know what lies beyond the Ascendant rank then.:pensive:

I can’t decide whether you’re joking or actually serious.

I guess this version of Discourse doesn’t have an ignore user function? I know you can mute but I need more power, er more options.

It does, it’s in the same part of your Account Settings as the mute is. Settings: Preferences: Users: Mute and/or Ignore.

A little lame tho… I went in and looked and Mute just mutes any notifications that might occur from a users activity. Ignore does what it says and completely ignores but it’s only for a specific time period: a few days to 4 months or so. At which point you would have to renew it.

I did the best I could to give this nonsense some structure.
TL;DR this is an idiotic post. So I’d say no point in reading it.

As for the migration itself vBulletin is a shell of what it used to be so a change was definitely required
It’s understandable that people are disgruntled by this change tbh. It’s a big leap from VB to Discourse when it comes to forum design.

I personally was never a fan of Discourse forums due to the interface and would have wanted them to pick Xenforo (my understanding is that the basic layout is similar to VB). But at the end of the day they decided to pick Discourse and I respect that.
Of course not many can adjust just yet but saying that we should move back to the old one is quite idiotic frankly. I think as a community it would make sense for us to make use of this thread to give actual constructive feedback rather than scream “ReVERSe It!”

Before I proceed with giving any feedback, I can see some peeps confused by the background. That image has existed for quite a while now but was always a background for Crate Entertainment’s website. It is in no way related to Grim Dawn. The major speculation is that it is artwork for one of their unreleased projects.

As for forum feedback -

  1. Infinite Scroll - I think pretty much every Discourse website I have seen uses this. I am guessing it is a core feature but if it’s possible to remove it then please consider doing so. I know this make Discourse easier for phones and tablets but I kinda hate using it this way on PC.

  2. Home Page - The home page feels decently organized to me personally but then towards the "end’ you start hitting some infinite scroll thingie that lists the latest topics and it goes on forever.
Even if the infinite scroll is unavoidable I think the infinite topics that we see when we get to the forums’ front page can be removed.

  3. Badges/Titles etc - Not sure how much work it would be but I hope you guys consider adding these back.

  4. Custom Emojis - GIB MOAR!!!

Overall congratulations on this move to Crate. It might take a while for things to settle down but that’s to be expected.

This is how it looks for me which is why I made the comment. I’m gonna go with the next assumption being that I’m apparently blind

Ah, this is mine:

Looks like you have to get to the next ‘Trust’ level… which is apparently only time-based. So, just a matter of waiting a little I guess.

Makes sense, thanks powbam.

How do you even increase that anyway?

Um, yes that is a bit lame powbam. Maybe Zantai can add a never into the list.

jinsaotomex4 it may be something to do with discourse’s Trust level thing. Or maybe because I’m a moderator, but then moderators shouldn’t be putting anyone on an ignore list imho - how can they monitor what might be going on if they don’t see posts from specific users?

Zantai’s played around with it a bit though.

On a related note, it is worth pointing out the new forums address:

nMI53fA4c9

which is no longer:

MucvG5ClQZ

The forums are no longer going to be just about Grim Dawn. @BannedForBeingGood might need to come to grips with that concept.

Also pretty sure that screenshot is from the new town builder. That was/is the only new project Medierra’s been working on the last few years that I know of.

At this point Medierra is just being mean teasing us with all this stuff about the new City Builder.

Ha. I wish it was more of an actual tease. We’ve had very little in the way of news except for the concept art on this sites background and a couple screens. I hope something with more meat on the bones comes along soon.

I think it’s time he gave us a reach around at least.
