That pic just made d3 look like a cartoon…
That looks damn fine! Amazingly atmospheric, I can’t wait to discover the set up for that encounter! Very 28 Days meets 40K. Love the warp effect happening from the explosion.
Wow this is my favorite screenshot yet!!
I’m curious though, is that zombie a slow, lumbering type, or a wtfbbq-extremely fast lunging type? As I stare at the screenshot I keep imagining how the zombie looks like it’s ready to pounce at you heh…
totally wtfbbq
I think the zombie in front of the explosion got stunned as he wasn’t quite close enough to be totally gibbed (plus the guard’s grenades aren’t as powerful as the players). You can just make out a diseased zombie sprinting up the road though!
just out of curiosity, any chance for a weather system like rain and snow?
It really looks great … I immediately wanted to zoom in to see the details.
Why is the right lower half so brightly lit? Have they brought floodlight with them?
Yes, the most powerful floodlight of all - the sun. Those surfaces are angled toward the sunlight, the rest of the terrain slopes downward to the east and is not being directly illuminated by the sun.
Man that looks really great. The guts on the ground look super cool.
Fair enough - but then, why are the other parts illuminated less Left upper corner could be dark due to magical effects, but the swamp in the background?
Sweet! What I really wonder now, is this a one-time scripted siege, or will there be zombies continually throwing themselves upon the barricades?
Also, why is a small stroke on the topleft of the picture stretched?
AWESOME screenshot.
Sometimes, I wish you guys would stop tempting me with these shots man… it just gets me so anxious to play!
I think the top left is stretched from a blur effect from the grenade explosion near the zombie. (same thing happens in the Diadochi fields in TQ with the huge ballista explosions.) Though it does look a bit odd here.
As for the continually spawning… I hope so!
Right now this is based off a slightly new type of ambush proxy that can spawn X number of enemies every Y seconds until it exhausts is configured total population. So this isn’t scripted at all but it also isn’t infinite within a session. It will happen the first time you leave town though in each game session similar to the way TQ enemies reappear.
My plan though is to add another option for the proxies so that they can periodically refresh within a game session. What I’d like to see is a massive wave when you first go to leave town and then just periodic smaller bursts of zombies so that you feel like the fight is on-going and the guards are constantly under threat.
The stretching is just due to a ripple in the distortion wave. It looks good when it is in motion. You lose a lot of the magic when you freeze particle effects in a screenshot.
So, it is not a bug of your engine - good. But I had something similar in IT and it’s reproducible. Have you fixed this for GD?
So will the explosions from the guards’ grenades cause damage to a player who charges out into the midst of the explosions? Or will you have to kill zombies from afar and make a break when the coast is clear?
Very nice looking screenshot btw…
I JUST LOVE IT!!!
what can u say??? I WANT TO PLAY NOW he he he he
keep that up and you have the game of the year for a long time
Very nicely done. The world comes more and more alive with each new screenshot. Thanks for keeping us updated on the progress.
I seem to recall a similar scene in TQ in one area of Greece where zombies kept attacking the town. Been awhile since I’ve played it. It’s good to see that the same feeling of constant threat will be present in Grim Dawn. Only this time, we’ve brought more firepower.
It would be pretty neat if occasionally the zombies took down some of the guards and new guards were spawned somewhere in town to run over and defend the position in their place. Seeing the zombies actually kill some people would add to the overall ambiance.
Ah, hadn’t seen this. Please PM me and let me know how you reproduce it so that we can investigate. Thank you!
Strange, that never happened to me, could be a driver rather than a game issue though.
I’ve seen it too, it only has occured for me in those weird tide pools in the Plains of Judgement.
