Official Grim Dawn Kickstarter Thread

I have already pre-purchased the game with the biggest price option back one year ago… but I’d gladly contribute more, as TQ was perhaps my favourite ARPG yet. However, Kickstarter only accepts Amazon’s ‘Paypal knockoff’, which IMHO was a very bad idea. Hardly anyone uses that service, the majority of people purchasing things online (myself included) uses Paypal, which is accepted everywhere, while Amazon’s system is only used on Amazon…

I hope the 280.000$ comes together still, and let me know if they change the payment type before May 18.

Don’t quote me, but I think you just need an Amazon account. I had never signed up for it, but I had access to it just because I have an Amazon account. They’re free to have, so I don’t see it being a huge problem to be honest.

I also didn’t know that GD was only going to be $20. Honestly, I pledged my money just to try and help out. The game will not be out until August of next year (or so it says on the site) so I am not expecting much, but being able to play the Alpha and Beta will be nice. Like many others on here, TQ was a very good game (would have been my favorite ARPG if it weren’t for how easy it was to cheat) so I expect nothing less from Grim Dawn.

Hi BB_Shockwave,

If you pre-ordered GD one year ago, then you seem to have a credit card, with which can contribute through amazonpayments. KS explains this requirement in their FAQ.

… welcome to the forums.

hi again…

i bet you already noticed but the trend is going down …

less and less every day

maybe a change is in order
just read the comments on the kickstarter page and there are suggestions based on other successful projects like nekro (and i might add ShadowRun Returns - which i also backed ) - give them an exclusive item ( or more depending on the pledge ).
there is also the option to make a few high reward quests available only to those with the corresponding medal - that would rise the interest in upgrading the pledge

and there is a feedback regarding the updates - the music updates do not seem to attract new people - gameplay updates do

i know this is going to get funded anyway , but i really want this to have success ( to bigger and better for me , of course  )

yeah we need another gameplay update, I would have hoped it would have reached the goal by now, so yeah, we need another gameplay vid to keep the momentum going

the momentum is not going , it’s dropping

maybe a new gameplay vid of the inventory system, or a new class, the devs really need to do another update quickly, otherwise we won’t reach the goal and all our hard work will be for nothing

Just under 12k to go guys, don’t give up yet! And it might just be that its the end of the week for some and they are currently waiting for thier pay checks within the next day or so ;).

Also, its getting close to mothersday some of us do like to buy presents for our mothers :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s true, I bet we’ll see a spike in sales from everyone buying a preorder copy for their mums.

if it were my project ( :stuck_out_tongue: ) i wouldn’t let things to ‘maybe’
watch the ‘kicktraq’ evolution

And you don’t want to be the only gamer that didn’t purchase a copy of the game for your mother, … Do you?

Trend line is moving along nicely though. Still probably going to hit their target by Tuesday and hopefully that brings out more interest from those that have been on the edge.

It really is a matter of reaching a greater number of people - there are many people out there who either have not heard of the game or need something more to help them commit. Over the course of the Grim Dawn Kickstarter we have been gradually catching up with the Jane Jensen project - a coupleof days ago we had collected just 10k less in pledges - today it is nearer 32k - they received a boost from the Leisure Suit Larry as well as video announcements from Jane herself. They and Republique have both had serious spikes in the last couple of days so people are willing to commit money.

I do think that Crate have handled this whole Kickstarter process well up to this point. What does surprise me is that the game’s most attractive aspects - namely the developers themselves and the game have not been used more extensively. I would really like to see the guys addressing the backers and potential backers. Tell us what is good about this game and why it deserves our money - I believe this game is going to be brilliant - I think it is one of the best Kickstarter investments there is due to the level and quality of work already carried out. Hearing from the developers will I suspect help others to come to a similar conclusion.

Having said that, I do remain totally confident in Crate -like others I just want the game to be as successful as possible. So congrats for all the good work done so far.

Less than $12K, almost 2 weeks left and you don’t think we’ll make it?

That my friend, is pessimism personified…

my worry is this, its the fees and prizes that will be removed from the overall total, making the boxes and physical items, it would be sad if we do reach the goal only for a lot of money to be removed due to fees and prizes and there is hardly anything left to hire new devs. this has always been my main worry, unless we have a comfortable level above the min funding goal, then our hard work into trying to get a couple of devs to help finish and polish the game, will be for nothing, as most of the money has gone else where

what is one of the reasons I choose a digital reward, so more money for the game, rather then prizes, but of course some of the money will go on prizes anyway, plus the 10% from KS and amazon

I’m pessimistic a bit, as I don’t want this campaign ending in sadness, that most of the money didn’t go to where it was needed, and the whole point of the KS campaign, yes we have a lot of money, and a lot of awareness, but to be truthful, I dont think its really been enough, we should have been over the goal by now, at least then, there would have been say $280,000 total say, to hire two more devs, right now, its not looking to be like that, $2800 will be removed once the campaign is over, (that is the 10% from KS and amazon) of course that figure will go up as more funds are added, but its a rough total. then there is prizes, and shipping costs,

then again there is also that person who is willing to add $100,000 after the KS has been successfully funded, so that will really help, and that will be outside KS, so the 10% fee won’t be taken off that, so that should raise it to $380,000 min

while I agree that GD needed a KS campaign, and this is really needed, but still, I do worry, yes there are still many days to do, I only wish, we had reached the goal sooner

I have a question… does anybody knows who that guy is and where does he have this kind of money to invest like that?

I know there are a lot of people that haven’t heard of Grimm Dawn , but you can’t ignore that a HALF of the backers went for the 18$ pledge… That means you did not succeed to convince them to invest more ( although i think the 32$ reward is much more efficient ).

Bottom line is … at least this two weeks the priority should be promoting the kickstarter project , later when it is all ok you can focus on developing

I dont like how fast the trend is going down, GD should have easily hit its mark by now :frowning:

I hope There are some updates coming really soon so they can spike the trend again and get the $500,000+ that they deserve

Crate did a lot of research into their tiers, rewards, and what they needed prior to the launch of the Kickstarter. Have some faith that these things were taken into account by people with a plan and some experience, and that they were aware of what would be taken out, etc. And if it makes you feel any better, there less than 400 backers who are actually getting physical rewards… shouldn’t be that much of an expense there…

I’m pessimistic a bit, as I don’t want this campaign ending in sadness, that most of the money didn’t go to where it was needed, and the whole point of the KS campaign, yes we have a lot of money, and a lot of awareness, but to be truthful, I dont think its really been enough, we should have been over the goal by now, at least then, there would have been say $280,000 total say, to hire two more devs, right now, its not looking to be like that, $2800 will be removed once the campaign is over, (that is the 10% from KS and amazon) of course that figure will go up as more funds are added, but its a rough total. then there is prizes, and shipping costs

I can’t think of the campaign as anything but a success. Yes, you can always wish for more exposure, more backers, more cash, whatever… But right now the campaign has done what it wanted to - get the extra bodies to come on board so the game can be released and development of further content/expansions, etc. can continue. And all in a much shorter space of time! While I have no doubt Grim Dawn would have eventually been released, how long do you think it would have been for a team of two unpaid developers to get the game we are all looking forward to off the ground in a state we all want.

then again there is also that person who is willing to add $100,000 after the KS has been successfully funded, so that will really help, and that will be outside KS, so the 10% fee won’t be taken off that, so that should raise it to $380,000 min

This one still gives me some hesitancy more than anything else. I wait to see what happens with this ‘pledge’…

One thing we all should keep remembering here, is that Crate is TWO individuals! Whatever we ask / request is done falls on the shoulders of two people who are close to a thousand kilometers apart! This is not a big team with a communal office, but dedicated individuals working from their own homes. There really is only so much they can do - what with maintaining a presence here, trying to put together updates for KS (and whoever else needs it), trying to get press/publicity, developing gameplay videos, answering questions from fans, conducting IAMA interviews, etc. I’m sure Rhis and Medierra are both running on fumes by now, and they still have two more weeks of this. And this doesn’t even address their personal lives. The level of dedication shown here is impressive. I’m sure with the success of the KS, media outlets will address more time to the project since it will no longer appear as if they are appealing to people to fund it, but reporting a success. This alone should be a benefit for the campaign, and I look forward to seeing what the last two weeks will bring.

father squid upholding the troop morale, splendid!

I think if you posted things like this on the update page saying something like…the higher the pledge level, the more the likes of these make it into the game!

I’m sure there are other monsters posted here that I missed…I know I get excited when I see what twisted evil things I will fight in game.

Woohoo, we’ve hit the 270k mark! Less than 10k to go!

I consider this Kickstarter a success. You can’t expect every Kickstarter to be as wildly successful as Double Fine Adventure or Wasteland 2. Just to throw out another example, Jane Jensen’s Kickstarter has raised only slightly more money than Grim Dawn in a significantly longer period of time, and Jane Jensen is a well known commodity (co-designer of King’s Quest 6, the best entry in the series, designer of the Gabriel Knight series). The bottom line is that the Grim Dawn Kickstarter will meet its goal on Monday or Tuesday and surpass it by a significant amount before time runs out. Rather than be disappointed that it’s not getting more funding (of course I would always like to see more funding), I’m happy with the funding that has been generated and will be generated. I think 400k and even 450k are still in play and am fairly confident that at least 350k will be achieved before time runs out.
