Trying to understand seeds and spending my time generating maps to find a pleasant place to start is a real nightmare, a map editor would be greatly appreciated.
Yes. I don’t know if it is reasonable based on the engine they are using, but I also want this.
I spend way to much time looking for a good map to play on, and the generation of maps for this game isn’t good at all for the player who is looking for an easy relaxing building game. You have the option of Pacifist Mode, which is great. It’s how I play. It would make life much easier for those that like your game as a city builder, not as a combat game, if there were maps more better suited to just building your city.
Being able to generate a flat map would be nice. Or, if nothing else, what are the secrets to the hex code map generator in Advanced Settings so we could actually generate a map we like?
you should read the map seeds wiki that will make it easy for you.
map seed generation doesn’t work very well, I’ve tried. Even the wiki page said changing the parameters will produce “inconsistent results” when it comes to terrain height and level.
Confirmed. I had a favorite map before 0.8.3, tried to manipulate the numbers of the seed to recreate its main features and got wildly inconsistent results in regard to hills, amounts of water, and general configuration of the map. Might as well have been generating maps randomly, which is what I do when I have a few minutes, trying to get a playable version I can record for later . . .
well i have great success with it.
If you know the secret to generating a flat map, I would certainly appreciate you sharing.
sure but remember there is no way as far as I know to get one
totally flat like a football field.
Anyway roll your map and get one you like then take that seed and change
positions 8/9/10/11 to 0
(8/9 have the most effect)
position 8 controls the height of the hills.
yes something has changed in 8.3 to make the seeds sorta unreliable.
My guess is it is related to the new mines/deep mines placement/generation.
I’m running 8.3p4 and using 0060 in the last four digits, and for the most part that gets me maps I like. In other words, more often than not I’ll get a fairly even landscape with some water. That is a HUGE improvement over how I was doing it before.
Thanks Groovy.
you are welcome.
NOTE: the seeds changed some in 8.3. and I haven’t had time to mess with it.
Like I said, it doesn’t work all the time. Just sorta most of the time. Almost.
