Hi Everyone, this might just be an oversight I am not sure, but it doesn’t make much sense that the work the Pioneers did and the huge area of terrain explored in great detail, would be immediately lost upon selecting location for the town center. I don’t quite know how to improve this as I know maps are only so big, and we still want some sort of fog of war. just bringing it up as it currently feels odd to start this way. Maybe leave the area a bit revealed but slight greyed out, but not black? it would be nice to at least “remember” where major features are located at. Just a few thoughts
I getcha, but maybe move this to ideas and feedback?
You can use App to look for major features locations at map:
- Shows mineral resources on map: Sand, Clay, Iron, Coal, Gold
- Shows forageables resources on map: Herb, Willow, Medical Root
- Shows wildlife on map: Deer, Boar, Wolf, Bear
Also, can remove all black fog of war from saved game.

This feels like … (you thought it, I didn’t say it).
Honestly though, it is like removing the challenge from the game. part of the game is exploring and finding what’s out there. it feels like a huge dumb down to remove FOW and to know where everything is and how much there is…
Quick note, it doesn’t change the game that you play (not a mod) so the FOW is still in your game. But for people who like to plan like crazy, this could be a boon. I tried it, just for kicks, and I like it (but you saw that post I know). It’s not in the game, so completely user optional. Best really for those who are more annoyed than challenged by the blackness, or just want to know where the resources are.
I understand that it is a mod I am partly just poking fun at people not able to explore and feel entitled to have everything spoon-fed to them, and partly serious
Not sure whether to agree or take offense! All in fun
I think this - your people scouting the area and then quickly forgetting about it again - might also be the reason why so many players seem to think “the area” that has been scouted is the entire map. There’s quite a bit more, but I’ve read of many players that hadn’t realized this even after playing for a while. Maybe if the introduction mentioned that there’s more to be found, but our scouts are hungry and tired and require shelter first… that would make things clearer.
I’d also prefer for the starting area not to fall into complete darkness outside of your chosen TC spot, but maybe just get covered in FOW hiding detailed infos. That way, it would seem less silly how quickly your villagers forgot what they just told you about.
Or you could make the visible starting area more in the shape of a trail to the centre, instead of a circle or square. That would make it much clearer that you’ve only discovered a part of the map, I think. And it would be more immersive than scouts teleporting into the wildness to boot.
Can’t we take screenshots during the initial phase with the town center on our mouse?
I mean, “for later”, when the strategic view radius is no longer available.
Just a tip for exploring safely: Send armed and armored soldiers,
like use the flag from the barracks/fort if you want to play it safe, wolf dens and bears …
