Can items that get foraged, like willow and medicine roots, receive a “production limit” as well? That would enable Foragers to stop getting Willow and focus on the other items in their area?
My current game has me drowning in tallow. I don’t have a massive concern on Honey and Beeswax yet but the input exceeds output of Candles, and I’d like to avoid a disaster involving mountains of white gooey melty substances.
You can have the trade center hold onto these items, up to 500 max, until the next trader comes along that wants to buy them. I usually sell as much honey as I can in this way but the Tallow is really best used for producing luxury items because as these are used up, you get more tax revenue. You can make multiple candle shops to really push production on this.
As for controlling what they forage, you have a few options. You can shut down the individual forage huts during seasons that they gather things you don’t want, or you can move their work area around to the items you want them to gather. There is currently no way to reduce the size of this circle or I’d use it with forestry to focus in on building areas waiting to be cleared because the laborers are often too busy to get around to it. As a last resort, you can also move these forage huts.
Tallow is a byproduct of killing animals. If you need the meat and don’t want the Tallow, you can either delete the Tallow, or raise chickens. Eggs count as a meat item and are also an ingredient to the only luxury food item, pastry. To delete an item, open the resources UI (R key) and then open the item you want to delete. In its portrait is a little box with a green arrow showing items being removed. Click that and then you will be given a slider to choose how much to delete.
For Foragers, moving the area around constantly can be a bit of a pain and the marsh areas with Willow, Medicine Roots, and Herbs are impossible to separate. That you can have the Forager skip them entirely would be better.
And yes, I do use the Trade Center trick to hold things. But 500/item when you have 1500-2000 more than you’d like (and no one buys the item) is a problem. I’d actually like vendors to buy more, or buy at really really really (etc.) reduced rates.
Also of note, when you have 500 of an item in the trading post, the game seems to recognize that as an oversupply and no trader will want that item for years on end.
Plus you can’t buy or sell wax, so that can’t even go into the trading post.
